People are not taught respect anymore and survival is the priority. Its just the way the world has become now. Are you denying what is in front of your face. Jesus taught place other before ourselves. Thats religion, not what you are moaning about.

Should we as a society ignore the possible reasons for these issues, pretend it doesnt happen and cant be solved.

Hey lets bury our heads in the sand, cool idea.

If only they didn't hold important positions as judges, politicians and teachers.

If religion instills morality and places more of a value on life than atheism does then why is it seemingly so easy to recruit jihadist suicide bombers to kill for Allah, and make them believe they will be rewarded with 70 virgins and rivers of milk and honey in the afterlife?

I'll tell you this, the 3 major religions are responsible for more mental illness than all the atheists that ever existed. The Bible is mental illness "by the book."

First we are introduced to fully developed humans who are immediately expelled from the divine for falling for a trick, out of naivete. We have no history of a loving childhood or a relationship in a loving family setting, which we would emulate in adolescence and pass on to our children in adulthood. The Biblical God provides no positive role model for humanity.

So we start out with a generational curse, separated from the divine and at the mercy of the rest of god's creation, fallen angels. After a collective trauma, of the flood and all the previous rape, we are given a list of rules to follow, if we want to reclaim our relationship with divinity. These laws are flawed from the get go.

Then this supposedly loving God sends his son to be murdered by an angry mob, to cleanse our "sins" if only we believe the story. We are promised the 2nd destruction of the world, by the return of a vengeful God, who is to separate the good people from the bad, who are doomed.

Today, a good Christian is one who has no devotion to the earth or the future of humanity, and prays for end of times destruction to come sooner rather than later. Is it no wonder this deranged young Christian man went on a shooting spree?

The Bible, and the religions that it has spawned, is no bases of true morality, in my opinion. It is the basis of mental illness. There's nothing divine about the God of the Bible.

I know - - it is so ridiculous. We are assimilated from birth to believe there is God.

It is not particularly easy to completely step out of the "God circle". It is so ingrained in our being and culture.

Anyone who chooses to search for the god of religion - - with an open unbiased mind - - will be blown away by how they could ever be caught up in such ridiculous myths.

Its truly craziness.

I agree with Op - this has nothing to do with religion or non religion and personally I don't think we should be looking for causes here.

If America is like the UK, where there is little decent employment, where students are saddled with tuition bills before they even start employment, where the average house is out of their earnings span, well it does not surprise me that some of the young people are angry. What actually triggered this - I don't know and others in this link have suggested some sort of psychological problem - I can run with that, but there is a lot of scene setting that isn't right for the young.

Do you associate all Christian ideals with bigotry? Are you a member of the LBGT community? I am just trying to get an understanding why you have such disdain for the way people practice Christianity. Please tell me what you think a bigot is because I don't think you know the meaning of the word.

And are you stating the LBGT community can not be Christians?

Statements like that certainly add to the disdain for some Christians.

You nailed it my friend!

Even atheists would agree with you on this one even though they don't tend to believe in any religion.

Atheism is, always has been and always will be nothing more than a lack of belief in a supreme being. The only thing "new" about atheism is the fact that the church stopped killing atheists for heresy.

What is new - - are anti-discrimination laws and judges willing to up-hold them.

Gays and Atheists are similar as a minority group because they are very unpopular - - even hated.

I mean seriously - we've still got a justice of the peace in one area of the country refusing to marry an inter-racial couple.

Did I say that? People can be whatever they want to be. Recently most of the Christian haters, especially the outspoken ones are in the LBGT community. True or False?

If every person in the United States had the fear of God and attended a Christian church every Sunday, these mega church leaders and televangelists would still claim we are a Godless nation. As these claims are simply means of self promotion to keep the donations coming in to fight the evil. After all, they are business with payrolls and other expenses who need a steady influx of cash to stay in the black. These are not your volunteer based local churches.

Personally, I find it appalling that they try to profit off such tragedies.

Most people don't hate the LBGT community, they are just tired of the gay agenda being force fed to our children.

2nd.

Anyone who uses the term "gay agenda"- - - only reveals ignorance in themselves.

No that is not all.

When you chastise someone else - - beware of what you reveal of yourself.

What gets me going is that when religious folks talk about stuff like this, it is "god's plan" that the victims were killed, but "the devil's work" in setting up the shooter.

When will they understand that The Devil was a construct for people to find blame for something when someone did something so horrible as this?
