Someone here mentioned earlier that they had two friends from the nearby Buckley Air Force base that did not report this morning. They were concerned.

I just read this snippet from MSN, and I'm deeply sorry to report this finding. You will be in my thoughts, and I pray your friends are not among those lost..

Buckley Air Force Base is in Aurora, and defense officials told NBC News that two Air Force reservists and two Navy service members were among those shot. Their identities and conditions weren't available, but defense officials said none was killed.

NYPD commisioner Ray Kelly has reportedly stated the suspect had hair "painted red" and claims to be the Joker from the Batman franchise. Just heard this on FilmWeek on KPCC.

AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Police say 71 people were shot in a suburban Denver movie theater early Friday during midnight shows of the new Batman movie. Twelve people were killed, ten of them at the theater.

Another 59 adults and children were wounded.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates says there were four showings of the movie at the time and all were sold out. He did not know how many people that amounts to.

Oates says investigators are confident the gunman acted alone.

Police arrested 24-year-old James Holmes, whose apartment four miles away was booby trapped.

Oates says Holmes wore body armor, used an assault rifle, a shotgun and a Glock handgun.

He says Holmes' car was parked in back of the theater.

That's been mentioned, as well as reports the shooter admitted to having a ticket, thus it's most likely that he was the one leaving the theater so he could go right outside the door and prepare.

No, people (and many media outlets) are claiming that 71 people got shot. That would mean bullets hit 71 people. I am correcting everyone and saying that is not correct. 12 people are confirmed shot and dead, and 59 were injured. Sure, some of those 59 probably got hit by bullets, but I have been following this since 12:00am in the morning, and know that most people just got shrapnel from an explosive device, and others injured from tear gas inhalation. Not everyone was shot.

I'm sorry, I kind of know where you're coming from but I take exception eithe inference that bad people only come from broken homes..... It would seem (as there are quotes from this shooters parents) that this guy came from a good old family unit, all together and living thē dream eh?
I was brought up by just my mum and I barely see my dad.... I have never been violent to anyone, never started a fight, pride myself on having strong morals, values and respect for others, as does my brother as does my best friend of 25 years who also comes from a 'broken home'. It doesn't "come down to the disintegration of the family" at all..... Sometimes it kids are MUCH better off without the 'family' staying together... Half the people I work with have been abused (emotionally, physicall and/or sexually) by parent's in a two parent 'family'....

The shooter Holmes was studying neuroscience in a PHD program...so he was certainly no dummy....The Seattle Times has a good article...its worth a read.

AK 47 standard magazine has 30 rounds. And how many has a shotgun? maximum 12. Aiming in movies theater dark is not really possible. How many magazines did he change? How long did it last? There is no information on that. Breivik had time to change weapons and ammo because people on the island were scattered and he had a cartwheel with reserve ammo. This guy doesn't seem as real as Breivik. I bet he was not alone. Having time to place booby traps and make himself up to look like Joker, so systematic and yet cinematographic? This is two different psychological profiles packed into one - Bane and Joker. Doesn't seem right to me. We definitely don't know everything yet.

Sadly things like this can't be prevented, you can try to prevent it, but crazy is crazy blaming it on firearms is immature and baseless.

If someone wants to do something bad enough they will do it no matter how awesome you try to take preventive steps.

This world is just in a era of mental decay, there is no fixing decay, it rots.

Yes, most media web outlets will copy and paste errors. This happens all the time.

The police cheif himself said 12 shot dead, 59 injured, and people (journalists and others) are adding those up and coming up with 71, and incorrectly saying 71 people were shot. There is no way he shot 71 people.

Seems like we have a classic Mk Ultra op.
