I was just listening to the radio and they said he WAS in custody. Past tense. So where is the suspect now?

I saw the BBC repeat a statement that this is "not linked to terrorism".

It's amazing how the USA has redefined what terrorism is. This IS terrorism, by its very definition this is terrorism. But America seems to apply the word to specific people or groups when it suits them.

If they raise the national security level because of this it means one of two things - they either need an excuse to scare people and justify something (in which case the shooter will probably turn out to be Iranian) or they believe that this is part of larger attack.

Anyone remembering Anders Breivik saying there were fanatical groups all over Europe? Why would it be limited to Europe? This is a real danger that various governments have downplayed. If you have rogue people armed and ready to attack random places like this, especially in America, it would be far more difficult to manage than a traditional terrorist attack.

Just look at Mumbai. After that happened nations weren't able to confirm that they would be able to deal with something like that in their cities.

I fully expect this to be a lone gunman, probably an ex employee or someone with a grudge, or just some mentally ill person.

I very much doubt they'll raise the national security level after this.

VERY SAD. Watch for copycats to start ...

That being said, whenever we go to a public place like a movie theatre or the mall or whatever, we always scope the place out incase of emergency. Fire exits. Places to duck and cover. That kind of thing. I know .. to some that sounds extreme but the news today just reinforces my belief that it is very important to do this.

I haven't heard a 3 month old, but I did hear a 6 year old was killed.

EDIT: yes, you got that right (end edit): On Fire Dept channel a unit going to the site asked if they should "run emergent" (sirens) and was told "yes, but switch them of at (street name I can't recall: Canyon??), we don't want anything to set off those devices."

"Devices": plural and unequivocal.

The President and First Lady have released a statement. They are reportedly "Shocked" and "Deeply Saddened" by this horrific attack on Innocent movie goers.

There's seems to be another incident over the radio.
Am I correct? Anyone else listening to the radio?

Earlier I heard 2 backpacks.. now I am not sure how many they are looking through.

Yep, I caught that. On the fire channel. Sounds like they either found a store of his items, or maybe he rigged the place?

The needing a 35ft cherry picker indicates to me he may have rigged things?

It's really confusing at the moment!

I believe the two backpacks may be a separate event they're looking at. Not 100% on that though. But the Fire radio specifically told an incoming unit (tower 8 I think) to switch off emerg. sirens/lights on approach to avoid risk of setting off the "devices".
