This thread makes me ashamed to be a part of ATS. 90% of the people in here posted without reading the OP AT ALL!!! Those of you that do this should be embarrassed as hell! Why are you even on this board?? I feel like posting a list of shame, but what good would that do?? you can go see who does it in there for yourself..


This thread and ATS's purpose is to have a discussion, which is always two sided. If you aren't here to have a discussion and you post without reading then you bring the whole community down and show the sub-par intelligence that has lately been ruining this site.

There's even one or two mods in that thread that posted without reading the OP....

Can the mods do anything about this??? if someone obviously didn't even read the OP then can you put a mark on their account, delete their post, send them a warning, something??

Your thread is going to accomplish nothing. Sad but true.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you 100%, but you will have better luck trying to discipline a kid with MASSIVE ADHD than getting people to act their age here. (Or, maybe they ARE acting their age and this place is nothing more than an online daycare.)

That should have been your thread title in my opinion. If you want to decrease the "knee jerk" post problems then reduce the amount of inflammatory material in the thread title.

People that don't write for a living (and even some who do) forget how important a "Title" is. By giving something a name (i.e. thread title) you not only control it but you control the people that happen upon it.

We often forget or even ignore how important a name or title is...

Most people give a thread a title that is intended to inflame emotion, when that is the case expect then posters to respond with emotion. Note that emotion does not equate to rationality.

well lol i was thinking about writing this very thread last night but was too lazy.
that particular thread was really bad, but is not a lone example.

one problem of course is that you have to use the headline of the link you are presenting (which can of course be gotten around if you write your own thread and only use said link in support of your own ideas). this causes alot of confusion, as so much 'news' is sensationalized or biased in one way or another, or just poorly written.

but seriously how one can respond to a thread without even knowing what it is about or what perspective is being brought to it is beyond me. if i had to guess i would say this has something to do with how social networking sites operate and the new forms of communication that are being developed there.

i refuse to believe it is because we are all just becoming ruder in general. but there has to be at least some element of disrespect involved or lack of inteligence (sigh i hate to bring that one into it because it seems too simple)

this subject brings to mind that old saying
'do not judge a book by its cover'.

I myself have experienced first hand how people can distort the point of a thread. Even if you think the title sounds okay, some one always finds fault with it. I have been slammed and when I reread my thread, I never could figure out how on earth that they came to the conclusion that they did.

It just blows my mind how people can read the same thread and come up with different conclusions as to what the point is.

Needless to say, it's been a while since I've been interested in posting another.

People are just too serious any more.

Well, there are some here that I do enjoy reading their comments because they have a sense of humor in their remarks. And still, I'll be darned if some one doesn't get bent out of shape.

But yeah, getting back on topic, read the WHOLE thread and understand what the subject matter is about and what the point that the OP is trying to make, if there is one.

Its help to know why an avoidance policy happens for some members and some posts .
Often though , a ridiculous op can contain some very interesting debates.
It appears to me , who regularly trolls ats , lol , that the 'appeal to emotion' someone put is there in the motivation for users on a thread. ?
Threads with an easy answer to the title , often of time old questions , provoke answers
.Threads making wild claims get answers .
its not how I do it , I do it so if I die early , I am one of the first on a cloud with a silver lining , or so to speak.
Those coming behind , will get ahead of me . So in effect , there is no reason to say 'this or that brings it down' , it just 'is what it is'

And the time-honoured or age old rules will still apply , as in , what you put into something , determines what you get out of it . Laziness begets confusion and strife follows on its heels.

Actually many discussions are completely one sided, regardless of what the op has in content.

For example, if you don't believe Obama's bc is a fake you'll get shouted down. Same thing if you're pro-Israel in any way, the heroic Jew fighters will come out of the woodwork to shout you down in any way they can in order to shut you up.

And of course, if you don't believe the Ct and want proof you must be a shill for the government.

Being open minded is a two way street. If you want people to take you seriously, you don't dismiss them and you don't shout them down. Nothing gets accomplished by shouting people down, it only generates more resentment between people.

I'm with you, OP. I read through the whole thread, and it was truly an orgy in ignorance and hatred. What most shocked me was that mods were involved as well. Really disappointing.

Im pretty sure its more about the misleading or absolutely ridiculous thread titles . Im guilty of not reading through properly myself sometimes, when i see blatant bull# in the first couple lines or in the title itself.
