Apple ordered to run 'Samsung didn't copy iPad' ads

www.computerandvideogames.com

In a bizarre turn of fortunes, a UK judge has ordered Apple to run 'advertisements' declaring that Samsung did not copy the design of iPad.

Judge Colin Birss has actually told Apple it must run notices on the homepage of its website for at least six months, as well as in UK newspapers and magazines.
The ruling comes after Apple failed to convince Birss that Samsung had ripped off iPad for the design of its own tablet line.

This'll make Apple think twice before suing so much. The whole thing was getting ridiculous with things like "HTC copied screen swipe feature". I can just imagine how embarrassed Apple is right now.

SCORE!

Now if a US judge will only exhibit these stones.

I freaking hate Apple. I use the IPod because it is the best available. But i do not use their apps, nor do i source music through ITunes.

I will not use any other Apple devices, unless it becomes like IPod (where it is the best option by so far as to render all other options ridiculous).

Apply this tactic to the forehead of bullies and this world would be a lot better for all our kids!

About time Apple got pegged down a few inches.

Apple recently got a ban on the Galaxy Nexus. They also personally sent out letters telling retailers to pull all of the devices off of their shelves with a copy of the judges temporary ban. Days later the ban was temporarily lifted. I think it was a move of desperation, they just wanted those things off of shelves A.S.A.P. I wonder how much money Samsung lost in the few days it took those retailers to find out the ban was lifted, I doubt Apple sent out a letter to notify them of that.

Can't wait til Google and its manufacturing partners get together and shut those ***holes down.

Ten years ago Apple was a decent and honourable company who made good products (even if I'd never buy them because they were grossly over priced),but now they're just a bunch of spineless hypocritical cowards hiding behind their corporate lawyers.Yes they plagiarised almost everything they have since made their own (Steve Jobs even admitted this) but at least they got on with it and left everyone else alone.
I guess the English judges can't be "bought" anywhere near as easily as the American judges can? This is really brilliant news and is the kick in the butt Apple have deserved for a long time now.

Get a Samsung Galaxy Player, or a Zune HD if all you want is a music player.

apple are bunch of greedy idiots wasting the courts time and money.

nothing they make are original.

laptops aren't original, portable music players aren't original, cell phones aren't original, personal computers aren't original and now they'll probably claim that television is their own personal invention when the release apple tv.

but i doubt things will change, an applebot revolution will probably never happen.

Star and Flag; because I was wondering when Apple would stfu about this. That's the equivalent of someone saying: "Let's sue Sony because they make flat screen TV's too!"

How exactly is the iPod the best?
The best is something that can plug straight in and songs can be uploaded directly and not through some crap restrictive program.
Also something with a battery helps.
And something that doesn't break easy or look like crap in a matter of days.

I find this hilarious.

That's all.

I like the ruling on this, seems fair. I do believe though that apple products are copied by other companies. I could be wrong, just an observation.

For the same money as an iphone, you can get a Samsung Note.

No restrictions on what games, books, movies and music you download. It has an enormous memory; 16GB built in and you can install a sd card. I have a 32 GB sd card full of movies and books. The screen is huge....

In your face, Apple.

Looking at their webpage now, but so far no traces of the ads. Oh well, hopefully they'll be up soon.

My Ipod docks in my truck. Finding a docker for it is easy and cheap. It looks brand new today, 2 years later. I put it in an otterbox because I know i drop things and take responsibility for my own mistakes in that way.

I have to use ITunes to load music on it....but i really don't mind that. If THAT is the worst complaint I have, then i will survive.

I have had 4 other MP3 players. None of them would remember the song I was playing, with the exact settings I was playing it, when I turn it back on. It may exist now...but 2 years ago was not something I could find easily. I knew with IPod it was a tried and true, so that is what I got.

My battery life is good, too. I can plug my IPod into speakers on my back porch and press Shuffle. 24+ hours later it will still be playing music without being dead.

Between this and Apple having to stop calling their stuff "green" I wonder if this will be known as the year that broke the hipsters back?

How has this thread descended into argument over who's equipment is better? It is about the ruling a judge gave, one I find particularly good.

The Judge could of just ordered costs to be paid, maybe even a finical punishment on Apple for their frivolousness legal actions, but money means nothing to Apple, well not the kind of fines a British judge can levy. This judgement though must really sting, I mean it must rankle something awful
I would of loved to of been in Apples board room when this judgement was read out to them lol

The patent trolling has got very stupid, patents are no longer about protecting innovation (Remember Apple have innovated nothing, just copied other peoples idea's) its about monopolizing markets, about destroying competition. Imagine if Mercedes had patented the car, we would have one model of car to drive, or if Logie Baird had patented the TV. Or if Xerox had sued the ass of Apple for coping their GUI and prevented the AppleMac ever being released.

Its getting worse now too, people are patenting concepts, stuff they cant make or design themselves, but patenting it just in case someone else can in the future, the patent laws need to be severely revised

Fair enough about the dock, but thats only due to market monopoly.. Not really something we should support. You know you can just use an Aux chord tho.

But you can get mp3 players that are exactly the same as the ipod except they do not need a program to upload too. So clearly its not the best, which was the only point I was really trying to make.

I have had plenty of success with other brands to be honest but I know plenty of people who have had operational issues with the ipod too, and been a lot more out of pocket as a result.
I have been buying good quality mp3 players since the time of the first ipod.

I would rather it be "The Year That Broke Their Pretentious, Fake Glasses"

Or maybe "The Year That Got Their Ironic Sweater Unraveled"

People actually buy single use items? My phone plays music and more.

Anyway, I'm glad to see apply finally getting slammed. Their patent trolling is just ridiculous. They act like they invented everything ever made.
