Why was Zimmerman's cousin afraid of him?

The man charged with the murder of an unarmed black teenager in Florida, George Zimmerman has now been accused of molesting his younger cousin. She kept her accusations to herself until now because she was afraid of him, she says.

So it seems the plot thickens in the Zimmerman case.

Despite a last-minute rush to the courthouse by the defense to keep a witness’s damaging story out of public view, prosecutors on Monday released a recorded statement from George Zimmerman’s cousin, who said Zimmerman molested her for 10 years, beginning when she was 6 years old.

The fact that this guy went out and followed Trevon and brought his gun instead of letting the police handle it. Shows he has some kind of power trips and inability to control himself and his impulses.

This new story seems to fit right in with his character IMO. Even if he got into a fight with Trevon and felt he had to use deadly force in self defense. I think Zimmerman is guilty of instigating the scenario in the first place.

That guy is a creep and a danger to the public. Lock him up.

Why would she lie about it?

That's not the kind of story that gets you fame.

The guy is family to her. It makes no sense at all that she would lie about it.

16 year olds are that age where they will make anything up to grab the attention. I don't believe her.

I am usually one to point out clear rational thought when an accuser comes out of the woodwork. But the logic you are providing does not fit with reality. There are thousands abused by priests in the RCC and they haven't said anything until many years later.

5 minutes of fame is also a troubling one, but there are some people who enjoy this type of attention so I won't say more than that.

But you are right, no position should be taken at all because it is simply an allegation as of this time.

That's not the kind of story that gets you fame.

The guy is family to her. It makes no sense at all that she would lie about it.

To be fair there are plenty of people that sabotage their own families out of jealousy, envy or simply spite. We really don't have the facts in this case and are barely hearing one side of the story as of now.

I don't think a 6 year old really knows the difference of speaking out or staying mum. I think the real questions regarding this matter is something the family will have to address because they should know what was going on. Whether it be full knowledge and a cover up, or at least had an idea of something odd.

There is no way he could be doing this for ten years without some very strange signs surfacing.

I agree entirely. The story notes she was almost immediate to call and whine that Zimmerman and his whole family were racists after it first happened..then LATER... Oh Yeah! She calls back and to a different office, to make a whole new complaint. It also notes this happened at family gatherings, as they lived in entirely different states.

I'm not buying it either.... What's next? Stories of him torturing kittens and starting fires as a child? C'mon.... Let the trial go and see what the outcome is. This is getting stupid. At worst, right this second, this is a totally uncharged accusation. If this is even heard as a casual reference at trial, I'd sure like to know what theory mere accusation is now evidence by?

So we've decided Hispanic is now white? We are remembering, Zimmerman is Hispanic of course, right? He doesn't even look confusing for his heritage. Not everything in the world is about race... sheesh.

Incidentally, I'd be willing to bet Family Services case workers would be surprised to learn child abuse is a racial thing or any one group has an edge over any other for likelihood. At any rate, so much about this stinks and the more I read different stories which carry different quotes from her statements, the more I think this "Witness" is a glory hound who saw a golden chance to insert into a nation case. Heck... Sharpton, Jackson, even Obama himself...everyone made an appearance by the time she finally figured mentioning this was worth bothering with (or would be a GREAT! Idea)

Been there, done that, don't care. So, when it comes to what happened to me? I don't talk about it, it's ancient history and I've moved on. But someone can came to me, ask around about the person in particular, and I would wind up mentioning: oh, this happened.

Not everyone is in the same emotional place, when it comes to their damage.

Newsflash - Rape/Molestation victims have been known to keep their horrible experiences secret for years. Of course I don't know the truth, but many perpetrators hold some kind of power over the victim via threats that keeps them in check. Is this case it started when she was at an impressionable age (six), therefore it's quite plausible that she was indeed scared of him all this time to come out with this.
