The flags, they clutter up everything. We really don't need them on everything. It has nothing to do with nationalism when you get rid of a few. I can see them on international vehicles, but putting them on all the vehicles is just silly.

So that flag, which MILLIONS have died defending, is "Silly?"

Oh my.

Misquoting is the tool of the weak minded. Put flags on your garbage cans for all I care. Just don't plaster them all over our vehicles. Yeah, they look good on international vehicles, but here they just look like redneck flag waiving. My plumber has them. The practice is silly, it degrades the flag.

Ok, I agree with this point of view. There is a proper time and place, yes.

But why is a person waving a flag a "redneck?"

edit on 16-7-2012 by phantomjack because: (no reason given)

A person who is waiving a flag is not a redneck. Rednecks have a long tradition of waiving flags, I once waived the confederate flag.

So you will insult others to make your point. So much for manners and decorum.

Banned for calling people who go off to war over a flag "useful idiots". Fine. Ban me. The PTB that require the dismemberment and slaughter of "useful idiots" to fight their useless wars will stand up and applaud.

Maybe it's time that peeps start getting a clue about war, flags, symbolic BS and their play in this global charade.

I guess we will find out eventually. My post on last page which I think you probably missed is a response I would like you to see.

And here is another bumper sticker for you: Someone died for you to have the ability to say what you say. If you don't believe me, go ask someone in China about their free speech. I hope you don't take that for granted, regardless of what you believe about soldiers.

I mean that honestly. I hope you you can see the relevance of the wars fought and people dead. I hope you can at least understand that without those "idiots" things could be quite different for you and me.

I'm off this thread, I have no time or desire to argue about the validity [none] of getting yourself - myself - shot to bits, blown apart or returning "luckily" with a serious mental disability [PTS]...all for a bunch of cloth.

Unsubscribe.

Wow that ban took a lot less time than I thought it would! I am like a prophet! And I wasn't even the one to report him/her.

What I wanted to say to you was this: People that come to ATS to learn something, usually learn lots of somethings and stick around. People that come to ATS to talk trash and instigate fights usually don't last long. But I guess you see that now.

Which I assume all soldiers do. I don't believe for a second that anyone in the world would die for a literal piece of cloth. That would be stupid. I do believe they die for what the flag represents though.

Regardless of what I think about the wars that those people fight, I am steadfast in my respect and honoring of those people. It might be taboo to say but I respect the people fighting our troops as well, they believe in a cause enough to give their life and take others. That is a lot of conviction. Conviction in your decisions and beliefs is usually an honorable thing.

It's all about perspective I guess.

This disgusted me, I just sent letters to the fire chief and the city manager...it's not much, but I felt I had to do something.

Why?

Did you not read my post on page 2 ?

This entire story is being overblown. The flags were being flown from the windows, which is against a city ordnance for safety reasons. The firetrucks are still allowed to have flags on them.

Hell yes.
It's just another construct to divide and conquer.
"Oh, they have a different flag, they must be bad people"
"Oh they have a different flag, they must come from somewhere else and if they can't fit in here then they can go back to where they came from".

Well, guess what buddy, we're all from Earth and we may as well try to get along and remove as many barriers to that as possible, rather than trying to cement intolerance, bigotry and patriotism/nationalism.

Thanks for the Fire Chief's email. I have contacted him congratulating him on taking a stand against the swelling and distasteful display of patriotism.

Burn all flags. We are as one.

1. Mostly, ATS readers are ##SNIPPED##
2. This story was days old and out of date even as it was posted. The "issue" has already been solved.
3. Once again, somebody saw a headline and made a thread, not bothering to read the source of the original story, but instead grab a second hand report.
4. Once again people jump to conclusions based on nothing.
5. Once again, the OP, and NONE of the responders (except for drwizardphd) didnt bother to do any further research before commenting. Otherwise they'd know the story was already out of date.

"There is a real small rule way down in the flag code that says it's supposed to be attached to the right front fender," Kennedy explained.
The fire department's maintenance division will fashion a special bracket to mount the flag so it complies with federal code.

Why would someone even bother to complain about the flag of the country they are staying in / part of, being on the fire truck?
I am quite sure if their house was burning down they would not be bothered which flag was being shown on the truck as it pumps the water to put the fire out.

pretty sure America is the biggest "mutt" country EVER. and thats a good thing, i'll fly my American flag, the guy down the road can hang his Puerto Rican flag in his rear view mirror like he wants, and yes even YOU can fly what ever flag you want. flags DO NOT create barriers, intolerant people do.
