As any regular ATS reader knows, a huge amount of investigative work has gone into Roswell. One of the most experienced and rational writers on the subject - and, yes, a believer - is Kevin Randle.

His comments on Chasing UFOs can be found at

kevinrandle.blogspot.co.uk...

He has been over the 'buttons' subject before, and immediately knew what its significance was:

"They have now identified the button as Air Force. The instant I saw it, I knew it was an Air Force button. But I also realized, the instant I saw it, that the button was irrelevant. In July 1947, when the recovery operation was underway, there was no Air Force. There was the Army Air Forces, but the point is, it was the Army Air Force Forces. The Air Force wouldn’t become a separate service until September."

Please read the whole of the piece, and hope that the Chasing UFOs team read it too. If that team is going to ignore everything we already know it's going to be a long, dull season!

Well of course something happened - a military button really doesn't prove anything, legitimate or not. They were there - they collected debris. Other than a nifty historical find (sort of), it means nothing really.

What really happened? I don't think it was a military project. UFO? Good chance imo - probably one of the very few legitimate UFO crashes I think.

I too saw that point but if you think on, the timescale is short, and who knows exactly what went on, and for how long.
This the thing with Roswell, everyone likes to play perfidious. Like GAC in their reports, that played on the idea that no one knew about Roswell before the 70's, and that they included out of place memory induced projects like, (the dummies) that were carried out in the 50's blah blah.

Read Kevin Randle's blog about the button "discovery." He is absolutely right that the whole thing was highly suspicious. It is clearly a U.S. Air Force uniform button, and the Air Force did not yet exist in July 1947. It should have been an Army button and, all things considered, not one from a Class A undress uniform. It seems highly likely, based on experience with other documentary productions, that the button was planted specifically for the "Chasing UFOs" episode.

I agree that the button seems to be a plant. The actors involved may have been unaware of the plant, but the producers could very well have seeded the area with easter eggs before the crew showed up for filming.

1. There is little to no oxidation on the button.
2. There is little to no weathering on the button.
3. There is little to no soil chemical interaction evident on the button.
4. There is little to no caked dirt, pitting, or other signs that the button has been sitting there for even one year, much less 65.

I don't think anyone does deny that something happened at roswell. There is plenty of evidence to support it and even the military have admitted it. But whether or not it was a downed ufo is another matter entirely.
If you (OP) consider this button proof of a crashed saucer ? then i feel sorry for your naivety.
The same goes for the fact that you were unable to see that this was most likely planted, to deceive like minded individuals.

What were those buttons made of initially, and after the transition?

How so?
I don't think anyone is arguing that the military wasn't there in 1947, so what's the significance of finding a button?

I really see zero proof that anything besides a weather balloon crash happened at Roswell.

I used to think the same but, over the years, I'm now convinced otherwise. Don Schmitt and Tom Carey, along with Stan Friedman, have done incredible research on this. Read their books and listen to their interviews (if you haven't already). Also, how can you discount the testimonies of both Jesse Marcel Sr and Jr and Walter Haut's affidavit?

I'm a skeptic about the majority of events - but not this one. There has been just too much eyewitness testimony that's been recorded.

I have been interested in the Roswell case for years
and I do believe something happened there regarding
aliens or UFO's. I have nothing particular to base that
on, its just my feeling.

I am an antique dealer and I can without a doubt
say the button was not found on the site in the ground
after 60 years in as good of condition as it is. It adds
nothing to the Roswell case IMO.

I appreciate the skepticism of the show, but I think you all are missing the point. I'm not from New Mexico, but I would think the weather out there isn't all that bad. What do they get, an inch or two of rain, tops? Occasional dust storm, perhaps. Not a whole lot probably goes on out there. I would suspect something buried in the ground could be found relatively well preserved. So in that respect, I don't think you have to immediately leap to the button was planted simply because it's in halfway decent condition.

And I read Kevin Randle's assessment of the whole thing and he basically leaves it open to the possibility by his choice of words, which I thought was hedging a bit. It "would have" been this, "might well have been" that. Not exactly firm and definitive. It was speculative.

Very valid observation regarding preservation. Weather conditions have to be factored because it could mean the difference between rot (if buttons do that) or staying intact.

With that said I also suspect they used metal detectors or spent more time than the average passer by would. Still a coincidence it was found in 2012 via a UFO show but who else would be looking down there?

When it comes to Roswell...

i believe an alien craft was found at roswell, announced prematurely then covered up, and that around the same time there were probably other recovery operations. the garbage that marcel is holding up in the 'weather balloon' press photo is ridiculous as an explanation for the previous announcement. and jesse's face is a picture within that picture.

That's the point, a noble metal would it's own patina for protection.

What does the military button prove? There was never any denial that the military was there to pick up whatever crashed.
