I think it's most likely that this newly forming star system simply hit a tipping point and whatever proto-planet(s) were forming in that region finally attained sufficient mass that they started quickly sucking in all of the rest of the gas around them. Quite likely it's a gas giant or two of some considerable size, or at least it is now. It was probably chugging along just fine, slowly accreting matter until one day it it some point where it became like a big hoover and just started sucking up everything around it, getting much bigger and more massive much faster until all the dust and gas in the surrounding region was sucked into it.

So this star is 600 light years away, doesn't that mean that what we are looking at happened 600 years ago? It has nothing to do with current times. How could anyone say the universe is suddently collapsing or any other such nonsense, what we see in the stars is not in real time.

yeah, but the light that was sent to us then now is visible here now.. so what was now then is seen now now and wat is now now there will be seen now now here in 600 years.. if you can wait that long.... just fast forward your copy of "Dust today, Gone tomorrow" now.. you know.. like this.

Star is 450 light years away. Does this mean this event happened 450 years ago or are they viewing this in real time?

I have been a Telescope user for years, and this year I have noticed lots of what looks like white fire balls flying by my view while I have been watching the moon, Venus, Mars and not many people know what they are, but lots of star watches have seen them.
I have a feeling that the Mayan people are right when they say we will see changes in 2012 like it or not we are seeing changes, and lots of very clever experts cannot understand the changes either.

You guys are all going to be so sad when 2013 roles around and everything is the same as it has always been. And my bad on the 600 light years, it is indeed only 450 light years away.

The event happened 450 years ago. Our suns light takes 8 minutes to reach us. You would have to be standing on the sun to "view it in real time".

Well thats the vacuum of space in action right there my friends, literally. The dust has been sucked somewhere else!

Or? OR! Someone finally put some windex to that filthy lens!

As everything happened rather quickly, I think that some celestial body might collect that. As this is system that is still in nursery, there might be 'soon' to be planet collections of material flying around this star and collecting everything that come close.

Also, is it possible to come in contact with anti-matter?

Yes, we are watching something that has happened around 450 years ago, and as we are most important thing in whole universe, it has to do with 2012, Mayan calendar and all that no-sense thing. Whole universe rotates around our house, doesn't it?

You just have to love our arrogance...

common since says that the star went super nova, and exploded creating extremely hot dust and gas to be expelled and after a while it cooled and sucked it back in to the point of origin called back draft or atleast thats what i would call it just like an atomic bomb when it goes off theres a shock wave that goes out and is so hot the molecules expand and when they cool down they come back togather i thought this was common knowlodge? stupid astronomers

Reading some of these comments just makes me wonder why you people are even here.

How about I just give in and make a stupid joke or a reference to Ancient Aliens on every thread I post on, it's so productive.

Alot of strange happenings so far this year, the solar flares, sun anomolies, strange sounds from the sky, explosions from underground, the march quake cycle. Something is up.

i came up with my own theory on it being a visual "time" skip:

First I will lay it out that c = speed of light in a vacuum condition. From what I understand, light can be slowed down in transparent media such as air, water, or glass. Now what I am suggesting is that perhaps there were conditions that slowed the speed of the light of the initial image of the star with the space dust... as opposed to the speed of the light of the post-image of the star without the dust.

We see a "time" skip because the star's initial light reached us here on Earth traveling at a slower velocity (whether it be because the dust created a non-vacuum condition or from whatever variable that may affect it)
and then the star was blocked from view during its transitional phase of losing the dust (Perhaps by a slow moving celestial body blocking the view for example).
During that blocked transitional phase there was no image and we receive no light and then it moves on afterward to an unblocked state with post-conditions of light and a faster-traveling uninhibited form of light.
The star's image in it's new unblocked phase is the star far in the future because the light is now traveling faster and catches up with the initial "slower" light. Therefore the image we have seen over time is a superimposed of "before" and "after" lights because they both travel the same distance to Earth at differing velocities but both arrive simultaneously. (There is no image from the transition phase therefore the period of change is never detected, therefore a “now you see it, now you don't” behavior).

This theory doesn't explain what happened to the dust. Just the sudden abrupt change of the star's image.

haha call me crazy but yeah i just came up with that.

Seems like someone in that neighborhood was in need of LOTS of raw material for some big project, might we find a dyson sphere around the corner over there in the future!? Actually, this could be the first sighting of the tracks of a pretty advanced civilisation...

I found the cause of the missing cosmic dust. Nasa tried to hide this picture but the truth finally comes out. Behold the holy Dustbuster!
