Would you eat lab grown meat?

(Reuters) - In a small laboratory on an upper floor of the basic science building at the Medical University of South Carolina, Vladimir Mironov, M.D., Ph.D., has been working for a decade to grow meat.

I think its what the animals/plants need as meat production/feed uses huge tracts of land
any thoughts?

Also would like to know what vegetarians think

they will be able to grow any meat from a small sample of other lab grown meat

I would continue to hunt and consume on my own before I ate this Lab Smeat.

Of course if it was live or die...I would eat it before I died from starvation, but I would have to be pretty far gone to even consider it to be honest.

Why would anyone eat that crap,

its whats needed if us Americans want to be able to continue to enjoy or ridiculously high in protein diet we all have become custom to.

Wouldn't be surprised if the majority of meat we consume is lab grown at some point.

I remember reading that the avg American consumes 22 cows in their life time, and thats an avg, so some more, some less...

With population growth and the damage cows do to the environment its simply not responsible to continue as we are.

Just like I would not eat GMO crops, or anything that has synthetic additives ( although that's difficult)

I grow my own food as much as possible, buy from Organic farms what I can't. Meat included.

Would I eat lab grown meat? No! Not unless it was proven to be healthier than the more natural alternative.

I was vegetarian for 9 years from age 14 - 21 and I can tell you, unless someone just plain doesn't like meat, its just attention seeking rubbish. I'm not saying that the animals shouldn't be humanely treated. I'm just saying us humans are carnivorous. Its how we have gotten to the better end of the food chain!

This is really gross, I don't even know where to start.

But, if I was dying of starvation? Yeah, probably. Hopefully I am never in that position, and would eat beans first, and I really hate beans.

I just wonder how many new cancers, syndromes, and health issues this "lab meat" will be responsible for 10-20 years into the future...

You cant trust meat as it is right now with all the crap they pump through meat. Just IMAGINE what gets into the meat when the "mad scientists" in the LAB gets their hands on it.

"Lab-meat" no thanks. They never stop thinking of ways to mess up our food and water supply do they?

No chance. GMO meats now? They really want to kill us off.

ETA...That I have always loved slim jims and it took me a VERY long time to "forget" what they were made of when I was old enough to actually read the label. I try to block it out. I did the same with hot dogs...now I have to start over!

First of all it's an awful thought! Secondly it would taste nothing like real meat.

But then again, the stuff some of the restaurants etc. do with meat ... is hardly left as real meat anyways ...

So who knows ... Maybe the grown meat will taste like the awful meat we get in some restaurants etc.

I suspect we've all eaten far worse things without even realizing it. But knowingly? No.

It wouldn't surprise me if they pulled some gmo stunt whereby it doesn't need to be labeled! So I'm sure at some point we will all eat it in some form or another. Something to look forward to!

I don't even have to click the link on that one. All those pictures she was drawing of the animal anuses to hang in the restaurant was hilarious! One of my favorite shows.

I will be awaiting my copy...patiently. Can't wait to use it.
