My older brother actually remembers seeing Polybius.

Rather than the usual marketing data collected by company visitors to arcade machines, they collected some unknown data, allegedly testing responses to the psychoactive machines. The players themselves suffered from a series of unpleasant side effects, including amnesia, insomnia, nightmares, night terrors, and even suicide in some versions of the legend.

Yes it appears quite inconclusive as we have few facts.

However, the basic theory/legend by itself isn't out of the question. It breaks no laws of physics nor does it suggest anything impossible.

Could be true, or could be result of misidentification.
No way to tell from this vantage point.

But it is a possibility worth considering, as it presents many implications that we probably should be aware of.
We are only vulnerable to things if we do not anticipate them.

"IF" they were doing that back then, than couldn't they be doing it now as well?

Think of all our online activity?
We already know they log it all and use computer programs to organize and categorize all of the information.

So yeah, they (corporations/govt) are kind of doing it right now.

I've heard the old urban legends but, don't know anyone who's actually seen or played the game.
