Yup, that's why I won't go anywhere near the fbi site. You never know just what they will put in during their scan, probably nothing but I'm not thaking the chance.

OMG It's GREEN!!!

Does that mean the malware is now installed and running?

It does not scan anything. It is not an antivirus scan, or any other kind of scan. It's fast because it only makes one check.

All it does is checks if your PC is resolving DNS queries correctly. If it resolves them correctly, you are "green". If it doesn't, you are "red" and only then will it suggest what to do next.

If you actually read the page, they even warn you it can give a false green if your ISP is redirecting your DNS queries.

I dont see how people get infected in the first place. I have several pcs windows, been clean for several years.
I dont even use anti virus's anymore. I see my sisters catching them , dont know how hell they do it,
I usually have to remove them.

Please forgive my ignorance...but what does (I'm green) mean?

If you click his first link in his second post it will test your computer to see if it has this malware. If it's green...you are good to go.

Are You? or just maybe it infects your computer. Do not forget this site was looped 9 times by Anonymous and each time it came back to the same address?

Given that, I have not known anyone who has seen anything but a green check from that site, so the whole thing seems fishy to me

you have to remember only 200k-ish people are suspected to still be infected. I am sure not all of them come to this site and post on this thread. It's like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Yes indeed.... not only that, but the fact that the 200k-ish infections might be on discarded or obsolete internet devices
which might leave only half that number that will lose service

a malware byte disc might be something to burn, so you can have a ace-in-the-hole,
just in case there will be a major hack from N Korea or China secretly scheduled to coincide with the known DNS virus

this might be getting into the 'rabbit-hole' status of just how deep is this ?

No time to read the whole thread just OP and first page, I actually came on right now to read what members have to say about this announcement which I saw on TV last night!

I have to admit I am not going to do it.

So my feeling is that this is a way to get locked on to peoples computers and check them out.

Or to put nasty stuff on for people they want to take down later.

I do not trust this.

If I have a problem I will take it up with my ISP, probably same end result.

I was talking about this in another thread. I heard from a semi-believable source that there is a largely distributed virus whose purpose is to disable most of the internet at once as a way of mass censorship. It would not be permanent.

here is my response from the other thread.

I think there is a massive sleeper virus that no one has detected. I will for good measure reformat and throw in a hard drive that has never seen the internet. I will keep that PC at home unconnected. MY work PC I will reformat, write zeros to the drive and try again.

I think a virus that slowly crept into all servers and computers over time could in essence shut down the internet if left to fester and spread over a year without being detected.

It might not be on your computer but instead will download itself at a given moment. I heard something about this from my ex-hacker friend. He was pretty serious.

Not sure what I make of this...government snooping or a real threat?

BTW - What is the name of this Malware? I couldn't find that key piece anywhere...maybe a oversight on my part?

I don't know, it kinda scares me. Its like they always say we could be one, and they never say one of what.

As I posted in another thread (www.abovetopsecret.com...), this was sent by my ISP and I feel it sums it up pretty good:

The DNS Changer Bot program modifies the domain name system (DNS) settings on a customer’s computer and other devices use to redirect browsers to unauthorized, malicious servers controlled by the Bot operator. This allows a cyber-criminal to redirect the computer and other devices to websites that may look legitimate, but are fraudulent and intended to steal personal information and website logins and passwords.

The temporary servers that the DNS Changer Bot communicates with are scheduled to be taken offline on July 9, 2012 by law enforcement officers. Any devices that still use these DNS servers will not be able to access the Internet at that time unless they have been restored to the proper DNS settings.

When the FBI arrested the criminals operating the malware, the US courts appointed the ISC to safely operate the DNS servers and inform Internet Service Providers of the infected computers, so the ISP could in turn the customers.

Do not use Norton. It's absolute garbage. Free programs are always, always better for antivirus software. Personally, I use Avira, Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy. But what's really critical is practicing security discipline. If you use Internet Explorer, stop using Internet Explorer. Get Firefox or Chrome, and learn how to use AdBlock Plus and NoScript.

How the hell do you get rid of all of these Jason bloodsuckers, the internet has become one hellhole after another with scum emailing, hacking,or calling. Society has really hit rock bottom as far as i can see and maybe the end is near, if they have it their way, they would steal EVERY thing everyone has worked so hard to achieve in this life. Maybe Dec 21, 2012 can't come fast enough and if there is a god, i hope he/she makes these snakes suffer. If you have read Inferno by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, the ultimate retribution will befall these dregs of society.

Lol.
One thing I've learnt from the WorldWideinterWebzzz: never click on a link which has a federal smell.
"you are infected! Click here NOW"
Right.
Let's get more infected.

Here in Holland, some people get disconnected and fall for popups which say: Warning! The FBI has detected that you distribute pr0n. You will be disconnected from the internet. You have to pay a 100 euro fine to get connected again"
Very creative, isn't it?

Though...most of the "infected" pc's turns out to be...oh I don't know...something with "windows".
isn't Bill Gates pretending he's some kind of charity addict, meanwhile supporting those "must have" vaccins...?
Lol.
Get rid of Microsoft and you won't be infected

there is something akin here to people who talk about vaccines, Those that think they cause more problems than they solve.

Personally I believe the government its losing control of the populace. They are scared that the sheep are getting out of control. Create media hype(because the sheep love TV) and get them to go to a GOV site to be bagged and tagged. Give them a fake "You're Green" clean bill of health and then keep a track of them that way. You can stick you gov website where the sun dont shine i'll take my chances lol.
