Big Mountain type Cloud..Scary...

Wouldn't stress too much about it. Weather has been weird everywhere this year. Record breaking temperatures, heat and cold, floods, earthquakes - you name it, it's happening. The planet is going through some kind of change it seems and we'll likely see more severe weather in years to come.

FOG: Fog is water droplettes occuring at ground level. Cool air and high humidity which causes the water vapor to condense.

i don't know why people are so intent on being rude. the OP did use the word "scary" in the title but the post was merely a question whether or not anyone knew what it was. sometimes when we see something we've never seen before and really don't know what the heck it is it IS scary. the op didn't say OMG SO SCARY WE"RE ALL GOING TO DIE. sheesh. the cousin reported an ammonia smell. that DOES seem cause for concern. i don't get why people have to be so rude. not everyone is a clone and walks around calm cool and collected. people react to things in different ways. sheesh. i swear "fear mongering" is the most used phrase on this whole site.

Assuming it's something other than some sort of cloud or natural occurrence, I have to say that you don't seem to have very strong self preservation instincts here do ya?! LOL Hmmmm odd, ammonia smelling cloud that covers street level in large areas.. I think I shall go investigate personally and see if it's dangerous! LMAO It's sort of like in horror movies where the stupid girl is home alone, hears a scary sound in the basement and decides to go check it out. Just in her skimpy pajamas and not armed at all...

It never was my ideia or point to express Fear Mongering in this thread.
I just want to say to all of you people that i know what fog is thank you, cause like i said i live in Lisbon Portugal,a costal city.
My point was i never saw or heard about fog with amoniacal smell or with thunders.
That at the time was a bit scary,no?Especially cause my family was in there..
But i should be used to all the chills and whatsoever,this is ATS..

So here´s the deal, my cousin lives a few kilometres from me, he phoned me about one hour ago totaly scared telling me he couldn´t see a thing on the street or anywhere.

I´ve just filmed it again (half hour later) and it seems bigger..

He has never seem nothing like that, neither have i.He is totally scared and says he cant even see the street from his window.I asked him if it was fog and he says that that´s not fog...He also says that the air in the cloud is totally humid and hard to breath..

I´ve just phoned to a few friends in the area and they all say the same.. Trouble breathing and zero visibility.

I´m asking my friends who are inside the cloud if they can shoot a video of what´s happening and the thunder storm and send it to me so i can post it here..

What's so weird about that cloud ? Where I live (Portugal) i see that type of clouds every winter...

Guys, this is nothing but clouds ... It appears that there is an inversion layer (or two+) that is trapping air above and close to the ground .. the Inversion layer is the clear area ... The clouds and fog form above and below this layer. While it may be unusual for this sort of thing to occur here (based on OP), there is nothing scary about this. Happens all the time...

As for breathing, well, if the air becomes stagnant and does not move, pollutants (anything) will become trapped too.

No big deal here guys...

I see you have gotten a lot of crap from many people over this. I don't understand why people are so rude and argumenative, it's annoying. If I'd seen that, not having ever seen it before, it would have shaken me up as well especially if my family was in the midst of it. If I ever do encounter such clouds or fog or whatever now I think it won't freak me out, so thanks for posting it and helping me learn something new!

YOU should listen to your own advice !!!!! Many people have explained what has happened here just because it doesn't confirm what you thought doesn't mean they are wrong.

There have been lots of threads on here lately with mundane events which because the OP hasn't noticed it or heard of it before are blown out of proportion your thread is just another on the list

Wow. And here I thought ATS was a better forum based site than most I've been on. Guess I was wrong. There are idiots everywhere. People really need to learn to keep a debate on topic without being rude. The site definitely needs better moderation.
