Too often I spend my time on ATS replying to a thread with a diligent and thoughtful response that gets ignored or lost in a page transition....

I'm tired of putting in my two cents only for it to be unheard b/c a couple people in a thread have to wage their battle of opinions with half page posts...

I come here to read your comments, to provide my input, and to receive comments on my input from you - not to waste my time writing what might as well be an unwritten response...

I feel for you enron, happens all the time... basically the only way to get heard is say something stupid that is easily refuted...

If you make a good point, the people who dont agree with it wont respond to it if they have nothing to counter it with, thus they'll ignore it... If you make a bad point, they'll pick you to pieces

Glad to know I'm not alone here...

Funny how those no-brainers get over-analyzed by everyone in a heart beat....maybe it has something with our desires to prove we're smarter than that other person who starts threads like "I just saw a Reptilian eat my pet cat"

Enron the same thing has happened to me and many other members from time to time. It can be frustrating to spend a lot of time on a post only to have it seemingly dismissed. I think this can happen if you dont have any holes in what you are saying and if your argument is too solid. So you can look at it as a complement because nobody could challenge your statement. Thats the way I look at it anyway.

Excellent idea kinglizard, I'll try to remember that one.

Only recently I found an interesting thread and thouguht I might post a comment. So I went back to the very first page and read the entire 15-20 pages. (After all act in haste, repent at leisure).

The very first sentence in my rather extensive post was "Ok, I have read this thread right through from it's initial post...."

What was the reply? "You obvoiusly haven't read the whole thread.."

I nearly put my head through my monitor. :bnghd:

Honest, I could barely believe my eyes. After staring for a minute or so I just sat back in my chair and laughed.

What else is there do against such.... ?

Oops, seemed to have rambled on a little here, anyway Enron just to let you know your by no means alone.

Enron, I feel your pain. On lot's of threads I feel like I've made a really good contribution to the discussion, and then everyone just ignores what I've said. Especialy on all of the threads about the presidential debates.

There are several reasons why long, thoughtful, interesting posts are ignored.

One, they are too long. A lot of people read only one liners or short responses and reply to them. Usualy with one liners too, "witty comments", retarded replies etc, etc. These can be recognised by added
at the end of the sentence.

Two, there are people who read only the first post and reply to it, ignoring the rest. Typical for these posts is a lack of grammar, lack of sense, lack of long sentences and an obligatory display of various smileys in the end, something like:

Three, the post is so good, that nobody can reply in the same manner. As somebody said, you can see this as a compliment.

This happens to me ALL THE TIME. If you look at a lot of the threads I was involved in, I've been the last one to post 90% of the time

Hey Enron!

Man do I know what you are talking about!

Both of our North Korea threads went nowhere and my thread on the Canadian Supreme Court Same-Sex hearing got not a single reply despite all of the pro- and anti- posters I know are on this board.

Makes me feel like I'm wasting my time if I try to produce quality.

BUT...

Others have pointed out that maybe that is to be taken as a compliment after all the Same Sex thread got nearly 100 views... so someone is reading!

OR ...

Maybe they are just crap.

I should have posted this in the joke forum

I know what ya mean about the 90% of the threads you particiapte in being ended by your comments Herman...makes ya feel like ya killed some poor little creature

Gools - it's the views that count man! The views! That's what we gotta keep telling ourselves! I'm taking KL's advice...we've covered all the grounds and no room stands for error in our judgements!
Actually - I see how in some cases that could be true...sometimes people are just too lazy to tackle a well formulated response...I guess that's when part of the addictive factor of ATS comes in to play on that rare occasion when someone does...

I'm telling ya man...I thought no one would reply to this thread just in spite of me - lol - I'm liking the support...

Another thing that boils my blood is when you post a thread...it goes down the "recent post" list with 0 replies but 20-30 views...four hours later you make a reply to your own thread and THEN other people jump in!

I have the problem of being a thread killer. I post and then the thread is dead. No one seems to come back to it. Watch, I bet this one dies with this post, I'm cursed. :bnghd:
