Incredible. Just after a death in Texas of a sacred white buffalo in april... two weeks ago the Sioux had a ceremony asking for the birth of another white buffalo. Three days after the prayer this guy was born in Connecticut..

The cycle of life continues. The Sioux will have a naming ceremony in July.

And this after some one slaughtered the last one mysteriously...

I always am intrigued by these topics.

Always seems someone is intent on interfering with the Natives practices...

When White Buffalo Calf Woman promised to return again, she made some prophecies at that time. One of those prophesies was that the birth of a white buffalo calf would be a sign that it would be near the time when she would return again to purify the world. What she meant by that was that she would bring back harmony again and balance, spiritually. No matter what happens to Miracle in the coming months and years, Joseph Chasing Horse says the birth is a sign from the Great Spirit and the ensuing age of harmony and balance it represents cannot be revoked." - Joseph Chasing Horse

I hope the owner is able to protect it from some freak looking for its pelt , I would give it to the Indians to protect it from humanity and it's evils . Good story OP in a world full of bad ones .

Someone murdered it. I think the mom died, too. Really sad.

These things dont seem to be all that rare to me. I have seen threads like at least every year since 09 about a white buffalo being born.

White buffalo are extremely rare; the National Bison Association has estimated that they only occur in approximately one out of every 10 million births.

they eventually turn dark , sometime around the end of their second year soo

unless it has pink skin which they never do it will grow up regular color ,I don't think albinism occurs in Bisons

The fact that it is white has nothing to do with prayer and everything to do with genetics. The gestation period for a buffalo is about 9.5 months.

So, on conception roughly 9.5 months ago, genetics determined the calf would be white.

I know it's not mystical, but it IS logical.

Genetics is just a box full of possibilities to choose from. When they prayed, they put more focus on the "white" genetic increasing the possibility of it becoming a Rare White Buffalo.

Maybe I wasnt clear. I dont think these are rare enough to try to attached some type of spiritual significance to them. I have seen stories about them being born pretty much yearly. Its not a miracle.

A good story, considering all the negativity and hate around at the moment. This is a good story.
Peace

If the truth is hate and negativity then I'm a hater.

I do like the fact that Indians believe that this buffalo is sacred, but the fact remains that their belief originates from a time when the science of genetics was unknown.

A little common sense goes a long way.

Most people rather want to believe in fairy tales and miracles then using logic. It's so much more exciting to them believing into this kinda crap, that 'prayer' work.
I mean, do they or the people here really believe that they prayed and *bam*...3 days later a buffalo magically appeared?

This story is just bull..excuse me, buffalo#

Hopefully its a "REAL" white buffalo. The last white buffalo, really wasn't a white buffalo, it was a cross breed between a charolais and a buffalo. The genetic white color of the charolais cattle became the dominant gene and made the cross breed buffalo a white colored buffalo. I watched that white baby cross breed buffalo for about a year as it was growing up, until it was sold. I think the owner sold it to the Indians for 3 million dollars.
