Don't give up on writing please. You are really good at it, unfortunately it's more popular opinion that wins flags in the comps, but that is the only real successful way the comps have been done.

I got my writer status after consistently entering over a few months, even though I didn't win. It just takes time and effort to get there.

Besides, quite a few people have been noticing your work on the News Desk thread, so I wouldn't write off the idea just yet....

thank you for the compliment, and no I do not plan to give up... I will continue to watch for contests and enter. It gives me the opportunity to learn how to write on a dime about any topic given under the sun. Good practice that is for certain!

I am glad you are home and doing somewhat better, I have had pneumonia before and it is not any fun at all.

Wouldn't you find it slightly more beneficial to your campaign to have people voting for you?

There's usually one a month, hosted by Masqua, that runs from beginning to end of month, although last month we had an additional contest added by Tothetenthpower, another Forum Mod.

What I did was under myATS you can add favourite forums. I added Short Stories, and each time a new contest comes up it appears at the top of the page. Then it's just a simple matter of joining in.

I like the contests because it really forces you to go outside your usual fields (mine are sci-fi fantasy and supernatural themes), and write something different.

The stories become joint property of ATS and the writer, as I understand it. It protects everyone all the way around - no one can come and snatch your story off of ATS and put it out there as one of their own.

The "no sale" thing never bothered me - if I can write one story here, I can write another for sale at my leisure. Writing at ATS is stimulating, good practice, and for fun. I know of one writer whom I first worked with here who is about to publish independently, with a story arc all his own.

Thank-You....I understand better now, honestly one big thing I have learned through this "experiment" is how much I didn't know about ATS, and it has been enlightening. I "skimmed" the T&C's when I signed up, and really didn't fully understand them. My bad, I know, but that's the truth......lol, but I have always been the kind of person that has to learn things the "hard" way.........

Now that you mention it, I've not been on as much today due to party planning for the upcoming festivities of the Fourth of July upcoming winning of the election!!

The fourwheeler trails have been mowed and watered, the hayfield is cleared and ready for the festivities, the bonfire poles are stacked and the pig is buried and roasting! WOOHOOO!! It'll be a full day of festivities ending in a fireworks display provided the county doesn't shut us down, we're not on the ban list yet and they all go off right over the pond so they don't fall on dry grass/trees.

We've got 67 acres of fun just waiting to be had!! "beverage" runs have been made, watermelons have been bought. Bring your covered dish and have a big ole time!!! If you're not a good cook, don't worry about it, we'lll eat yours last after the beverages have kicked in! It'll taste great!

Still have canopies to put up, volleyball nets, horse shoe pits, cornhole boards and a few other things and have to be sure to get the pool squeaky clean since it's gonna be a scorcher!!! WHEW!! It's been a lot of work, but it'll all be worth it!

Got a projector screen set up by the barn for a "drive in movie" for youngins using a projector and amplifier. I think we're showing Chipwrecked starting at 9:30 or 10:00 after the sun goes down. More adult festivities to follow after the youngins go to sleep!!

......we'll have a pre-election dry/wet-run tomorrow the 4th so we'll be sure we're ready for the election wrap-up!!
