John Edwards was superb this evening. He backed Cheney into a corner and got him to say that he never publicly associated Saddam Hussein with 9/11. That was an outright lie.

Has anyone got a video clip of Cheney to catch him in this outright lie?

I can only assume that we were watching a different debate tonight.

Cheney was powerful, concise and intelligent.

I said it elsewhere in another thread, but if my vote was based only on tonights debate, Cheney/Bush would have it.

Reading peoples comments on the debates reminds me of the comment that Tom Brokaw made regarding each parties spokespeople:

"...a candidate could fall face down on the table and his people would still say "Our man definitely won the debate tonight"

It seems to me that people (decided voters) watch the debate with their "man" already selected and looking for any mistakes and shortcomings that the "other guy" exposes.

Nope, but I hope someone posts it. I remember clear as day his making this allegation on "Meet the Press," sometime last year. It can't be that hard to find. They should dig it up and post it for all to see, and that completely discredits anything Cheney said afterwards. When you start the debate off with a bold lie, I have a hard time trusting anything you have to say for the next hour+.

I'm trying to find some of the quotes now...here's one I just found randomly, but it's not the incriminating quote I was referring to.

Taken from Meet the Press, 9/8/2002:

Cheney: And we spent time looking at that relationship between Iraq, on the one hand, and the al-Qaeda organization on the other. And there has been reporting that suggests that there have been a number of contacts over the years. Weve seen in connection with the hijackers, of course, Mohamed Atta, who was the lead hijacker, did apparently travel to Prague on a number of occasions. And on at least one occasion, we have reporting that places him in Prague with a senior Iraqi intelligence official a few months before the attack on the World Trade Center.

I think they both drove their points home- Depends which side you're on and who you want.
I detest Cheney, but he was good and articulate and appeared "mild" tonight
Im shocked. They are both intelligent individuals.
I choose Edwards and he did an awesome job.

The debate was good to the point and Edwards did very well.

Who cares, no one likes Cheney anyways, he has one of the lowest popularity indexes of any Vice President in history outside of Nixon. Most people don't even care about who the Vice President is unless they hate him for something, and since Cheney is just as well known as Bush among the electorate that should say something.

Cheney couldn't beat the lady from the 'Where's the beef?!?' commercials for President so Edwards had an advantage regardless of what he said.

People know he pushed this war and was directly involved in its planning which is getting roundly rebuked by everyone except Cheney and Rumsfeld. The fact that people realize this and blame him is the only reason why Bush has remained relatively unscathed.

Edwards did well in my opinion but what irritated me most about Cheney was his refusal to expand on his thoughts when given the opportunity. No one with such a track record of war planning failure should be that smug and arrogant as to simply rest on his laurels. Lets see, the man ran Haliburton during one of its worst fiscal periods and darn near ran it into the ground, now he has planned and promoted one of the worst military fiascos this country has seen since Vietnam.

What a track record this guy has! Give him a freakin' medal!!!

Cheney said that There was a realtion between AlQueda and Saddam because there WAS a realtion between AlQueda and Saddam.

Read the 911 report, although they can find no Saddam /911 connection the ALQueda question is not in doubt.

See Lee Hamilton's (DEM) remarks.
