Professor Ian Roberts report author said
Unless we tackle both population and fatness, our chances are slim.
"Everyone accepts that population growth threatens global environmental sustainability - our study shows that population fatness is also a major threat
The world's adult population weighs 287 million tonnes, 15 million of which is due to being overweight and 3.5 million is due to obesity, according to the study
If the entire human population stepped on a scale, the weight would be 316 million tons, or 632 billion pounds, a new study finds.
And tackling population weight is crucial for food security and ecological sustainability, they suggest.

The smokers have all been defeated, now they're working on the fat folks.

Oh whatever, I look goooood!
Been waiting to use that picture.
I think many of us, myself included, are resource hogs. Every day there are more people. We seem to be breeding faster, living longer and eating more. I can see it becoming a real problem. Interesting thread OP. Other nations seem to be catching up to the US fatass level at a rather alarming rate. It is something to think about, how much food can the planet actually provide for us if we gobble and waste?
