Agree, I know what you mean about the top 100 - 99% banality.

Before the web came along and helped underground music become more accessible, the only way I could find good new stuff was listening to ZZZ (Brisbane radio station) or recording the whole Rage program and watching it the next day.

Peace Out - Ned

I just listen to Groove Salad on XM.

I know what I like when I hear it - - but never bother to get a title or name.

Guess I'm not much help with specifics.

To the OP

Just go buy a copy of Robert Miles - Dreamland

It was released in 1995 (I think).

Look no further.

I've got this - yes a brilliant album.

If it was a pair of shoes it would have no soles left, I've listened to it so many times

Also, I'm sure you must have heard this tune...

Apparently this is from the debut album: The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld

I will be honest, I have never heard this album. The fact that this was made in 1991 is mindblowing. I am gonna try and get a copy of this album.

ITunes has got it if you don't mind feeding money in to the mouth of this beasty.

Thanks again - Ned

Hi i am new as a member here but i check this site every single day.I have been listening some ambient music for some years and have as fav Carbon Based Lifeforms Steve Roach albums and Mathias Grassow alone and with colaboration projects.Check Ishq-Syspaces from 2011 also.Mmm there is alot more but that is some of the important stuff to me that i can think of right now.Only music made me make an account.Good radios for chillout music that i listen to are di and soma mostly.Had way to many second thoughts on joining but if it's about music i am allways eager to learn and hear more. It's what kept me alive for a long time

Aphex Twin

You probably know about the Euphoria albums of the 2000's - think they are owned by Ministry of Sound now but there is some awesome stuff in there - this is a classic example, you probably know it already

Boards of Canada are pretty great, this song/video is awesome:

Lastly I would recommend the The Flashbulb, not quite trance but very chilled out and melodic - see his 2010 album Arboreal.

cheers

Thanks for the recommendations. Will do some investigating.

I just love discvovering new musicians and music styles. there's something very spiritual about it for me.

This is a good site to explore and learn, so welcome. Not too many rat-bags here to contend with.

Peace Out - Ned

Thanks Gostr, I like their sound

It's amazing what you can achieve with a few guitars. You've probably heard of Australian band 'The Church' - the guitar driven indie-rock they produced here in the 80's, early 90's was amazing.

What is it with Austin Texas ? so many cool artists from there and people attracted to that city. Two of my faves (non music) related - Comedian Bill Hicks and Movie Director Richard Linklater. Might do a thread on this one day.

I have ALL of Sigur Ros' recordings. Have seen them live twice. Watching lead singer Birgisson play a guitar with a violin bow is just wicked.
