We all know that the founders of the U.S. loved their hidden symbols.

But one of the mysteries is why the new country was called "America." The story is that it was named after Amerigo Vespecci, feminizing his first name to "America."

But here's a theory for right out of The Da Vinci Code just for ATS:

United States of America = Deus et Satan Atomic Fire

Crazy?

Maybe not. Thomas Paine was credited with coming up with the name, "United States of America." Paine would have fit right in here on ATS.

Thomas Paine, from The Age of Reason:

The opinions I have advanced ... are the effect of the most clear and long-established conviction that the Bible and the Testament are impositions upon the world, that the fall of man, the account of Jesus Christ being the Son of God, and of his dying to appease the wrath of God, and of salvation, by that strange means, are all fabulous inventions, dishonorable to the wisdom and power of the Almighty; that the only true religion is Deism, by which I then meant, and mean now, the belief of one God, and an imitation of his moral character, or the practice of what are called moral virtues – and that it was upon this only (so far as religion is concerned) that I rested all my hopes of happiness hereafter. So say I now – and so help me God.

So did Paine hide the phrase "Deus et Satan Atomic Fire" knowingly in the name "United States of America?"

Or was it just prophetic?

I have heard of another theory on a comedy quiz show which puts forth that the name America derives from the main funder of John Cabots voyage in 1497, a businessman in England named Richard Amerike (Ameryk).

Wiki Link

I have no idea how much sway this theory has on the debating scene but to me it make much more logical sense than Amerigo Vespucci as using the surname was and still is the popular means of naming places after people

I'm pretty sure he had no idea what an atom was, never less the fact that they would create a massive explosion of fire when split

Actually "atom" comes from the Greek word "Atomos," meaning indivisible. "Deus at Satan Atomic Fire" could refer to Paine's belief of Deism, that God = Satan = indivisible and Fire could refer to hell. Maybe this was Paine's way of making a hidden political statement.

There are currently 209 people in the US with the last name American

There are currently 282 people in the US with the last name America

I wonder if there really is a Mr & Mrs. America! LOL Can we seriously trust them! I am reminded of this as I cross the Mexican Border and look them in the eye as I declare "American" and move along! So easy!

Well, maybe now they molest you first!

This just reminds me of an episode of Home Improvement when Tim Taylor was talking to his neighbor, Wilson. In their conversation Wilson pointed out to Tim that the letters in his name could spell out "mortality" and his wife's name, Jill Taylor, would spell "jolly trail."
My point being, sometimes when you move around letters, weird things can happen.

There's no doubt, Thomas Paine was brilliant, and if he wanted to hide a reference to nuclear warfare, he would have no trouble doing so. But at the same time, I don't think anyone back then had any idea the effects of splitting atoms.

at what point does Deism = Satanism?

Deism (i/ˈdiː.ɪzəm/[1][2] or /ˈdeɪ.ɪzəm/) is a religious philosophy which holds that reason and observation of the natural world, without the need for organized religion, can determine that the universe is the product of an intelligent creator. According to deists, the creator never intervenes in human affairs or suspends the natural laws of the universe. Deists typically reject supernatural events such as prophecy and miracles, tending instead to assert that a god (or "the Supreme Architect") does not alter the universe by intervening in it. This idea is also known as the clockwork universe theory, in which a god designs and builds the universe, but steps aside to let it run on its own. Two main forms of deism currently exist: classical deism and modern deism. The earliest known usage in print of the English term deist is 1621,[3] and deism is first found in a 1675 dictionary.[4][5] Deism became more prominent in the 17th and 18th centuries during the Age of Enlightenment—especially in Britain, France, Germany and America among intellectuals raised as Christians who found they could not believe in supernatural miracles, the inerrancy of scriptures, or the Trinity, but who did believe in one God. Deistic ideas also influenced several leaders of the American and French Revolutions.[6]

That doesn't abstain the fact that atoms were considered bunk until the 1800's.

Even the Greeks theorized about atoms. Democritus put two & two together as he smelled bread baking and pondered the unseen particles in the air.

But regardless of anyone's predictions the bombs were made for a reason and stored up for a season. They will be used. We live in a world controlled by unseen evil and this has always been. It will burn in the fire of its own making.

I know of the theories I also know Aristotle thought it was crap so no one else dared question it. It wasn't much more than theory until nearly 2k years later where people gained an interest in atoms.

Nothing to see here, Our ciphers are way better than a simple word scramble. It's a fun mind game but nothing else can be learned save for vocabulary.

Love the Paine quote Americanist.

I always thought America was named for Amerigo Vespucci as well, but I think I read some psuedo-conspiratorial book or something recently that said it was named for something in Central America that had a similar name?

I will have to dig it up.
