Your title is vague, and misleadingly provocative.

The article explains (although heavily weighted with a pro-religious bias) that Ted Turner's suggestion was merely to adopt a "One child per family" concept for the next 100 years. On a voluntary basis.

Not sure how he worked out that "math"...and of course, such an idea is ludicrous to the extreme, when you consider the vast differences in cultures around the planet, and the absolute impossibility of voluntary compliance, and shared concerns, across that huge gulf.

Possibly the old guy is beginning to lose some of his acumen, as he ages....because, surely, the increasing Human population on this planet can still be managed with the continuing advancements in technology that are certain to occur over the next century. So, his "one-man's opinion" doesn't seem very well thought-out.....

.....however, despite the (perhaps unintentional?) implication in the thread title, he no-way, no-how advocated any sort of active elimination of existing individuals....hope that was not meant to be inferred, here.

There are too many people in the world though...

We live like ants, insects or in the worst case bacteria. People won't be happy until one is pooping and another is waiting downstream to use the waste as lunch.

The world can only handle so many people, and it's unfortunate that we have to push it to the brink before making that realization.

I don't recall myself calling for anyone to be put to death. And even Turner referenced a 1 child policy which doesn't ask for anyone to be killed either. Rather, it should come down to responsibility of people having children, and personal family planning.

But yeah, let the world overpopulate itself, and when you see videos of starving kids in third world countries you can shut off the TV. And the ghettos in your city, you can take a detour. So who gives a *snip* right?

Okay, here goes.... I believe in population control and eugenics. Now, for all those who want to respond "Start with yourself", yeah, no. How about a rational and civilized discussion on the topic? I, for one will never advocate the death of any individual, let alone any persons in any number. So anyone saying, even implying the sentiment of "just kill yourself if you feel that way" will be promptly ignored.

Now, my beliefs are that we, as a species do not need to propagate 'just because we can'. I am not even adverse to a family having multiple children... so long as they can take care of them. It is a matter of responsibility. And until the day comes that not a single child dies of starvation or dies due to lack of medical care, you will not change my mind.

Next is eugenics. I only believe in voluntary eugenics. Any responsible couple should be able to procreate as well as anybody else. I do not believe in forced sterilization either. That is just wrong. To those that say breeding by choice is wrong, I say breeding by beer is just as wrong.

So, in a nutshell... No forced death of any living individual. A more responsible view on procreation. Provide equal health and sustenance to those living. Voluntary eugenics by those willing.

So, hit me with your best shot... and let's be civilized.
