Did Republicans deliberately crash the US economy?

For Democrats, perhaps the most obvious piece of evidence of GOP premeditated malice is the 2010 quote from Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell:


"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Such words lead some to the conclusion that Republicans will do anything, including short-circuiting the economy, in order to hurt Obama politically. Considering that presidents – and rarely opposition parties – are held electorally responsible for economic calamity, it's not a bad political strategy.

Beyond McConnell's words, though, there is circumstantial evidence to make the case. Republicans have opposed a lion's share of stimulus measures that once they supported, such as a payroll tax break, which they grudgingly embraced earlier this year. Even unemployment insurance, a relatively uncontroversial tool for helping those in an economic downturn, has been consistently held up by Republicans or used as a bargaining chip for more tax cuts. Ten years ago, prominent conservatives were loudly making the case for fiscal stimulus to get the economy going; today, they treat such ideas like they're the plague.

This is an interesting take on what has been going on. I think that it is a possibility. I have said before that I think TPTB, whether Republican or Democrat, want a economic collapse so they can work on their "One World Government". Do you think TPTB want an economic collapse?

Economic crash of 2008 occurred before Obama took office.

I can't help but laughing - I don't think ANYONE bothered to call his references.

Furthermore, I don't think the CIA gives those out. Just what was he doing in Pakistan?

I wouldn't claim that Obama 'hates' America, rather... he has different views about political philosophy and the roles of Government and Economy.

The destruction of the American economy is a stepping stone in the 'Change' of Capitalism and what some claim is Democracy.

Our economy is a slave to the stock market. Believe it or not it is extremely easy to manipulate the stock market if you have money. If you have money, no morals, and are above the law it is even easier. IMO both parties do this to get what they want on a semi-regular basis. I can almost guarantee you that the market will be an absolute mess in late October, and it won't be a coincidence.

Anybody who thinks this is very misinformed on the how the economy works. First off the president has ZERO control over the economy in the short run. And congress's power is derived from the fact they pass the budget, well a budget hasn't been passed since Obama took office, so thats out.

The REAL, and only power behind the economy is the FED. Everybody must be aware that they won't be picking the next president, the fed chair Ben Barnake will be. He has the power to derail the economy if he wants Mitt Romney to win, or artificially inflate it until after the election if he wants Obama to win...

THE FED will pick the next president, congress, D's and R's, even the president is irrelevant.

Agreed. The initial crash in 2008 happened under Bush and was a direct result of the $500 checks he sent to everyone along with lowering taxes for his "rich buddies" then compounded by all the funding that was wasted by him wanting to attack Iraq who had absolutely nothing to do with 911.
It's actually surprising that we've done as well with it as we have. It was clearly set up to tank completely for whoever the incoming President hapened to be by that crooked, nasty administration that held us hostage for 8 years even though they didn't recieve the popular vote during either election.
I actually didn't get involved with even thinking about conspiracy theories until bush was in office and I feel he was involved in a LOT of them, mostly orchestrated by cheney. Granted, Nixon was involved in them, but he got caught because we still had some honesty in journalism back then. These days, there is faux news who helps them to distort the truth to the point that they get away with their illegal activities. I guess they learned from the nixon administration huh?
I don't feel that Obama is involved in any major conspiracies, although he could possibly be connected to some questionable activities through his "old friends", but not any major conspiracy to destroy the economy or the country. bush, on the other hand, yes, I feel he was.
I feel he was involved in orchestrating 911 for several reasons, one being the need to remove all the asbestos from the buildings that would cost a small fortune, so destroying the buildings and letting the owner collect the insurance was much more feasible. It also provided a way to destroy a lot of condemning evidence that was gathered in one place. He used it further as an excue to attack Iraq. He visably lied to all of us, twisted and distorted to make people support the attack of Iraq even though it had absolutely NOTHING to do with 911.
The only thing Obama has done "wrong" was follow the most horrendous administration that ever walked the face of the earth.
Obama isn't great, but he's not the horrible, pathetic, destructive lack of a leader that bush was.

How else do you get people to sign up for Military Service... its like clock work, every downturn is followed by a military engagement....

You give the president and congress to much credit. They are whores to the whim of the fed. ANYDAY they wanted they could crash the market and have the politicians that oppose them replaced with "friendly" people.

The US economy crashed in 1913, led by a republican representative, a democrat president and backed by big money. It just took a hundred years for anybody to notice they'd fallen and couldn't get up.

I find this thread title comical , Many people look at our political system and say this party did this and this party did that keeping the public tuned to them or us train of thought . The fact of the matter is they are both the same entity putting on a dog and pony show for the public while the new world order/ illuminati runs the real show and tells both sides what ? When ? and how? . Every candidate is bought and paid for to do their bidding and in the end the currency problems will be a global crash .

The Economy crashed just before Obama took office and the Republicans knew it was going to happen. McCain was acting pretty much like he was purposely throwing the election, he is not as dumb as he was acting, walking back and forth in front of the camera during debates and never answering any questions, just shuffling the questions. Bush said "Why did this have to happen on my watch" or something like that as the Economy was collapsing.

I don't think the Republicans purposely caused the collapse but they were going to try to discredit the Democrats and blame everything on them. The Republicans definitely think the American people are not smart and they think that everyone fears losing their easy way of life and will agree with their deceit because of it. The truth is that both the people and employers need rights and everyone needs to pay their fair share for services such as roads and some other necessary services. The rich don't pay much taxes, they can use many loopholes to shelter their income. I don't agree with hardly any of the current system on either side. The way to do this is to restructure everything and stop political contributions from corporations immediately. The Republicans are trying to crush the democratic party, I say that this is Illegal and those trying to do it should be imprisoned. Same with the radical democrats that are doing this crap, there may be less of them but they still have a few. It's treason against the American people to take contributions from those who unnecessarily overprofit by this action at great expense to the people.

Appropriate title should be - "Did Corrupt Politicians deliberately crash the US economy?"

Answer would be yes and many Democrats (along with Republicans) are part of that......but you all can go back to sipping the kool-aid. I would say in before blame Bush, but someone already beat me to that.
