You're basically wrong, the headlines would be "Iran destroying all wildlife ..." ...

Nothing you said negates what I stated. I was responding to a particular poster who suggested this would be a good way to save money. He's not the first to suggest it. There have been probably a dozen threads on this so-called false-flag attack on the Enterprise, with many dozens of posters suggesting the same thing.

No doubt the MSM, if not TPTB, would spin it to blame Iran, but that doesn't alter the fact that people seem to believe we would do it ourselves. My response remains that it is a very stupid idea.

Absolutely nothing on sky news about the 'attack', why are you trying to fuel this hoax even further!

This story (whether true or not) is spreading like wildfire on the net....two other conspiracy sites (GLP and ION) are citing this thread as evidence....which is unfortunate, since we here are looking for actual confirmation and know nothing other than some guy on Facebook and some guy on Twitter.

However, I have information which states that the USS Enterprise passed through the Strait of Hormuz last month carrying Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251. It certainly appears to have been deployed for military purposes:

Enterprise makes safe transit from sea to shining sea 6/6/2012 By Cpl. Rubin Tan , Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort
USS ENTERPRISE, At Sea

Last month Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 sailed through the Strait of Hormuz aboard aircraft carrier USS Enterprise one month after leaving its homeport of Norfolk, Va. Iran has recently had the intention to control the amount of transits through their territorial waters and the Strait of Hormuz.

“By sailing through the strait aboard a United States warship, we are demonstrating that we will continue to maintain freedom of navigation and will support our allies in the gulf while deterring possible enemies who may want to close the Strait of Hormuz and impact the economies around the world,” said the Carrier Strike Group 12 Command Master Chief Michael Manning.

The strait, also known as the world oil transit chokepoint, is part of the international waterway connecting the Arabian Gulf and Arabian Sea. Any vessel, regardless of host nation, can use the international waterway. The carrier is supporting maritime security operations in the United States’ 5th and 6th Fleet area of responsibility before becoming decommissioned later this year after more than 50 years of service.

The USS Enterprise faced many potential dangers during its transit such as; collisions with other ships due to high traffic, fog, surface-to-air threats, air-to-air threats and surface-to-surface threats. Carrier Air Wing 1 aircraft aboard the Enterprise were employed to provide aerial support during the difficult conditions. “Navy and Marine Corps aviation platforms on an aircraft carrier collectively train to protect our assets and to be proficient in combat scenarios,” said Lt. Col. Nathan Miller, VMFA-251 executive officer and native of Lapeer, Mich. “The beauty of a carrier is being able to go where our nation needs us to show foreign diplomacy or force projection.”

Appropriate vigilant posts and extra navigation details were used due to the restrictive maneuvering environment and to provide standard defensive precautions. “It was a simple freedom of navigation and operation, not a prelude of war and service members aboard the USS Enterprise should feel a sense of pride because we did our job safely and expeditiously as military members carrying out a part of the nation’s mission,” concluded Manning, a Windham, Maine native.

This was posted 6-6-12. I assume that this ship is still near Iran.

Let's hope, for the sake of the sailors on board, that this is just a rumor.

Notice that the OP has gone silent.
He started a hoax and is sitting at his computer having a good laugh.
Reclaimed - you are now doing the same, inflaming a hoax then back pedalling.

Considering the fb/GLP and other chatter on the net I don't think the op should be even considered as a hoaxer !
As this is not a blatant hoax by the op
Re- iterate
Not by the op

But thanks for the threat mod - ex police ?

I've heard speculation that top speed for a Nimitz class ship is around 70 knots.

That corroborates exactly with what I have been told. I was friends with an ex-CPO (Chief Petty Officer) a few years after the Enterprise was launched. That was his speculation also, 70 knots. Several people here have reported what I've heard dozens of times: When the carriers get serious, they leave the support ships far behind.

Perhaps it should have been. Admiral Yamamoto suggested at the time, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant." The next few years did not go well for Japan. They experienced in the neighborhood of 3 million deaths, military and civilian, which was 4% of the population. The United States experienced over 400,000 dead, almost all military, about a third of a percent.

The OP has been an ATSer since 2009, there is no way the OP was a Hoax. It might have been a mistake, or a misinterpreted message from a friend, but why on earth would they pull a Hoax all of a sudden?

Now, I don't know about reclaimed, that is a newb, so maybe they would fan the flames just for fun, but I don't believe the OP did.

There is also this lack of response from the Navy or official channels. If it was a stupid hoax, I think they would have responded by now wouldn't they?

This Gene Vallee guy looks to be in his 50s or 60s. I bet he hasn't been to school or "summer vacation" in a long time.

Whacky baccie, alcohol induced stupidity, bored with his mundane life.
Any amount of reasons to start this hoax thread.
Why would the navy respond, they have better things to do.
