Dead' Brazilian boy 'sits up in coffin at his own funeral and asks for WATER before lying back dow

A two-year-old boy sat up in his coffin and asked for water before laying back down again lifeless, according to a Brazilian news website. In a case that seems almost too incredible to be true, ORM claimed that Kelvin Santos stopped breathing during treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Belem, northern Brazil. He was declared dead at 7.40pm on Friday and his body was handed over to his family in a plastic bag.

Saw this on the news, and decided to search for it online. I really can't comment, as I have no logical explanation. So idrather let ATS handle this one.

Any thoughts?

That is really weird. It's strange they didn't wait longer before burying him if he woke up like that. In before zombie comments.

They buried him anyway! He probably had a tumor or something. WTF....

What saddens me about this story is that it sounds like many of the other stories where people have been declared dead, only to wake up either in the morgue or 6 foot under.

It is a result of the heart slowing down to something like 1BPM (guess), so to all those who examine the body, there is no reason to believe they are not dead.

What if this is what has occurred here? What if the the boy still is / was alive? How would a two year old escape from a coffin underground?

You guys, stop it. The child just woke up from death.

Just give him a break. Sheesh!

For all you mortuary science guys out there: If you ever work your way up to owning your own funeral home, you should have an ad for "Free service if your servicee sits up". It may seem like it's in bad taste, but I'm sure many people would come to you anyway because it strikes a last hope kind of vibe.

OK we get that he sat up but the question remains......did they give him some water?

i'm glad that wasn't my kid. i would never been able to bury him, after seeing him sit up and ask for some water.
i mean seeing is believing, and dead people don't ask for water.
would have taken him to every hospital in the country, and never would believe any doctors ever again.

Delayed the funeral an hour? I would've let the kid lay there until he started to rot just to make sure.

I second that statement. He could have woke up again in a few hours.

Not the first time this happened in Brazil heres another case as well.

A woman being prepared for burial stunned funeral workers when she came back to life.Maria das Dores was a few hours from being buried alive when an official noticed she was still breathing.
The 88-year-old was rushed back to the same hospital who had earlier declared her dead.

I had a debate with my mom and said this had to have a logical explaination or maybe it was a prank. Apparently it wasn't. I still don't know what to think of it.

But it makes me wonder if weird things are really happening.

As I said:
in the OP I think there is a reason for a grudge and a law suit...
this may be a stunt.....not hard to figure..a certain amount of witnesses...
simple story....can't prove it didn't happen.....

I think you are definitely right. All of us ATS parents in here have stated we would never ever ever bury our child an hour later and instead wait for him to wake up again (if this indeed happened) therefore i assume this story is not true.

they used to bury phones in the old days in victorian england because it was so common..
its why there is a "wake"

You would think a baby monitor or a mic or something....this way the evidence is buried

It sounds very much like the "Lazarus phenomenon,"

It seems that quite a few people over the years have suffered the catatonic state, And i guess unless there is a full examination these things do happen,

The person will appear dead but is still breathing in a very shallow nature,

Weird things are always happening...so much that they are considered quite normal!
