Sorry to add yet another sleep-related phenomena to this Forum!

On a regular basis (once or twice a week) when im lying in bed at night trying to get to sleep I hear music in my head, I think that it occurs in the stage just before sleep is induced. I know i am definetly conscious when i hear it because I try to amplify and remember it but it seems that when i try to concentrate on it i cause it to fade. its like my head tuning into a radio that i can control by not trying to hear it.

anyone else experienced this??

I often have music come to me. It is music and songs that would no doubt be hits if others heard them but ones that you have never heard before.

Alot of musicains experience this. I call it music from the angels. Are you a musician?

I have heard stories of music coming to people in dreams and then releasing them as successful hits but i cant seem to concentrate on it enough without kinda scaring it off. I feel like im being teased. I must stress that the music i hear is definetly not made up by me, i find it hard to come up with new thoughts and ideas in general but i assure you this music would be universally appreciated if only i could grasp it.

I do play the piano by the way however i have never heard a piano being played to me in this music. I hear much emphasis on lyrics- ryming spoken word style accompanyed by light drumming and acoustic guitar

As I stated this comes to alot of musicians. It doesn't happen that often (at least not for me) so you might want to try to keep a paper and pen handy.
I only get it about a max of 10 times a year and only once was able to remember the lyrics or beat once I had awaken.

Well maybe now that It's being discussed I'll get some tonight. Dream music that is.

haha

I try to remember the lyrics to write them down but its like i am unable to focus on it without the music fading. And if i tried to write it down im afraid il loose the connection...have you been successful in 'capturing' this divine music?

Just once and I am sure that it is music from the Angels as they were mentioned in it.
I pretty much remembered 2/3 rds of the song but have been waiting for the rest someday and then maybe I can compose and publish.

The one line from the song is:

Do your tears turn to rain, do the angels cry, are you watching over me?

It's a song about someone in heaven.

That sounds beautiful

I'm impressed you managed to remember it, do you have similar problems in remembering it to me? Do you know how to induce this music? Did something significant happen in your life the day you heard that song? maybe this angel who sang you that song wants you to finish it yourself...

I have about 2/3 rds finished but could compose it now as a complete song and no one would know the better except that the end of why is not there.

It was just one morning as I was waking but about to fall back to sleep (thats usually when I get them as rare as they are) that this song came to me. I think I may have been thinking about how people lose loved ones suddenly. That was not what happen to me but was my thought process as the song came out. It was music and words. The line I wrote is sort of the up tempo hook to a more mello dramatic intro.

It is indeed a very beautiful song (Thank you!) that I hope others can someday hear.

As for how you can remember I can only suggest that when you are about to fall asleep have it as quiet as possible then listen to the hissing and ringing around you and try to tune in to the music level of this white noise. You are a musician so you can imagine a key or note to get you started.
Just try to match the pitch and you should be on to it.
Not a full arrangement but just a specific key or note.

I got this a lot when I was younger.

At first it was just one instrument. A bass guitar, a trumpet or saxophone, or drums. Eventually, as I just learned to let it be, and not think about it, I would hear entire symphonies in my head. Stuff that I didn't remember ever hearing before.

Unfortunately, the longest this would last would be about 15 seconds at a time. Also, the harder I tried to remember the sounds I heard in my head, the harder is was to remember. I tried to hash out the melodies on my guitar sometimes, but it just didn't have the effect.

The classical composer Tartini got his Devils trill Sonata from a dream.

wow.. you know I never considered this odd before.. but I figured it was a common phenomena.
Ya I do have that happen every so often maybe 4 or 5 times a year I have that.
It is always beautiful but very elusive.. and hard to remember exactly.

I get the music before I sleep about once a month or so. It's something I hear, in between the white noise I have on. I'm not sure why I need white noise, usually a humming fan or A/C going. It just helps me sleep. Perhaps it was an early coping mechanism. I also get bable conversations and voices of people I know and do not know having random conversation which makes no sense. It's all in my head, I just don't pay it much mind, and more or less am amused by it. Also I get ringing in the ears in complete silence. My ears probably just don't know what to do without noise? LOL

The music though, often is techno.

While actually dreaming, I have songs happen, it's kind of in the style of musicals. I can even remember one line from one of these dream/musicals. It's funny it reminded me of Hair the Musical. I can never seem to remember the whole thing, sadly.

My Acting teacher also has a little something like this. Whenever he is about to write a script for one of his shows and he doesn't know what to do, he takes a nap or sleeps on it. Sure enough he has a dream about what to write. He wrote a Halloween on Ice thing, for Nancy Kerrigan the Ice skater about 3 years ago. My teacher used to direct Disney on Ice, in Asia, so he knows quite a few of the Figure Skaters out there.

Perhaps us creative types, either get this as a blessing, or we end up being creative types because we get this.
