I thought Obama was a socialist? No? Now it's the very citizens protesting him and his government that are the socialists? This is getting really confusing with all the name calling and labeling. In the words of Rodney King (who incidently was beaten by true fascists), "Can't we all just get along"? You just don't get PTSD by going to war fighting for Multi-national corporations,

Good thread. Its been obvious for a number of years that the US is spiraling further and further into fascism, and at this point, is unlikely to be stopped via any conventional means.

Just as Rome used to be a Republic and then turned into a bloated, glutenous empire that could only sustain itself through conquest, so to has America. But I doubt America will last any where near as long as the Roman empire did... America is already swirling the drain, and very soon (if not already), will only be America in name and face, hiding a hollow, vacuous core where once at least the ideals of liberty, freedom, justice, and prosperity, dwelt, but dwell no longer.

Ron Paul is the last hope, IMO... but Im pretty sure that the "land of the free" (lol) is going to collectively say "No thanks, Ron! I wanna see whats down that drain! LETS GO ROMNEY/OBAMA!"

Well said, and in need of being seen again/bumped. It's a curious thing, I find myself nearly always agreeing in part or in totality with this Author, and the funny thing is, I only later take the time to look at the author and avitar, and a ("Ahh that's Him/Her again' I should'a known) moment arrives, and I smile thinking there is one who is still the voice of reason left here. and the poster.... Caticus Maximus......... hope I spelled that correctly from memory.

Now how did these same networks treat the tea party?

I do closely associate the Occupy movement with the new "hipster" movement. Yeah there are some people there that have lost jobs, money and want to get it back and actually have a reason to protest. But the vast majority of these people are young, over privledged, rich kids, with too much time on there hands. I live in Boston I've been to the protests, I live with these people, so before you go an say, "no they aren't!", I'll tell you from my first person perspective... yes they are.

You are right, but any movement that alludes to non-conformity will attract young impressionable kids from all walks of life. Among those with serious gripes, there are plenty who think it is 'cool to camp'! Does this detract from the Occupy message? I don't think so, but that message needs serious work for those (including myself) to really back the movement's call to arms, so to speak. The truth is, like many, I am so interwoven in the capitalist fabric that viable alternatives are still just a dream. It is very easy for some here to say life is better off the grid, but even getting to that point is one hell of a struggle. I work, sleep and work and in the few hours I have to myself I try to educate myself about the world and learn new skills. However, free (or personal expansion time if you like) is becoming a rare commodity. Work travels home with me and enough is never good enough. I do wonder if things might be more interesting if we stopped applying financial band-aids, let the system fold and then collectively battle our way to a different kind of life.

Now back to the Occupy Movement...

The Occupy Movement will fizzle once those people actually find jobs or do the work necessary to find something better than they have. In my view, it's just a lot of complaining without real results. It's easy to complain when you don't do what you need to do and you don't understand how the bad things happened. These people, a lot of them, just don't understand what they're doing wrong. They expect everybody else to bail them out of their own mess. It's comedy if it wasn't tragic.

Part of the problem is some people are so accommodating. In the past, people who lost work or were lazy got to experience the cold night wind an the frightening prospect of being robbed in the dark. These days, everybody is looked after and fed and given shelter no matter whether they're making good choices or bad. And so what happens is all of these people who don't get it are not feeling the pain so they're not learning any lessons. This is not complicated. A caveman would understand.

Just let em go for a while without food and shelter and so on. They'll be better off in the long run. But I know this won't do any good. People will still dumbly 'help' others without helping them. But let me tell you, when their pockets are empty then they won't be albe to dumbly 'help' others.

We're too soft. This is precisely why we're in debt. We could really benefit if we could channel our grandfather/grandmother generation or bring them back. They could teach this generation.

If they were here, there'd be no more million dollar toilets, nor free money. They knew how to live without. They knew how to live on their own too. This is because life was harder. They worked every day and they'd sometimes do this for weeks without any breaks. Most importantly, they didn't need million dollar toilets. They didn't need tv's or computers. They would scream if they saw our world.

And they were healthier. The reason they didn't live as long, on average, is because they didn't have modern hospitals to save them after serious injuries or diseases. But they were, physically, healthier. The air and water was also cleaner, if you didn't live near a coal burning plant. They worked more too because the machines weren't as good. They ate more naturally. And no frankenfood! Additionally, people who made it to adulthood tended to be stronger than they're now. This is because they didn't have technology to keep weaker members alive and they had to look out for themselves more. This ensured that lazy members of society would die off or would be forced into working again.

And their famlies were stronger than modern families. That's the biggest factor.

But, alas, we can't bring them back. We'll have to learn all those lessons again. And we'll have to do it in the face of a population that doesn't want to change or see the truth in front of them.

Mike Kaminski does this sort of thing for a living. He's an entertainer. Doesn't mean he isn't good at what he does - I thought this was brilliant myself. Not because I agree with the message. The original movie with Scott is a masterpiece and this is a brilliant parody. I call it a parody because it's featured at parodycentral.net. :-)

I have no way of knowing whether or not the sentiments expressed in this fictional speech are his own - or if it's only art. I looked for an interview - I couldn't find anything

The interesting part is how many people picked up on his mock-Patton speech and used it to suit their own needs. People love it. Almost as much as they loved the real thing:

There are a great many men and women in the real world who understand the occasional inevitability of war, see the necessity of war when the threat is obvious and real, and who accept their responsibility in the making of war when they have no other choice. Do you forget the fact that Obama, Democrats and liberals in power have spoken in favor of the Occupy movement?... Some of them even marched with the Occupy movement... the Occupy movement in general were not protesting Obama... The movement in general, not everybody who was there, were protesting against Capitalism, and not just against "multi-national corporations"... but against ayone who dared want "private property/Capitalism"...

I gave several videos of what the movement in general say they want. in the thread i gave a link to I gave even more evidence, including directly from one of the pamphlets used to gather people for the movement's march.

Also, the fact that the leaders/groups that make up the Occupy movement chose socialist/communist logos for their own logo, clearly is proof that the movement in general is socialist/communist...

What did you give to refute the facts I presented?... NOTHING...

That video you gave is from the Tea Party, not from the Occupy movement. I gave several videos from the Occupy movement, including people who were part of the organization of this movement, and their protests. The mayority of the Occupy movement are socialists and even communists, while some are anarchists.

You see, many people who like myself, and that man in the video, who hate socialism/communism with a passion, do so because we actually lived in a socialist/communist dictatorship, and we know what socialism/communism is really all about.

You have no idea what it feels to watch how your 11 and 12 year old sisters are dragged out of your house to do "Community Service" which in reality in socialist/communist dictatorships it is hard labor.

You don't know what it feels to watch your sisters cry, begging for your parents not to let them go to do "Community Service/Hard Labor" for the socialist/communist government.

Not too long ago President Obama, and Democrats signed into law a system similar to what you find in socialist/communist dictatorships, in which they demand for children in secondary, and they want to make even children in primary school work for free for the government without giving their parents a say on whether or not they should be doing this.

I get angry, and more so towards socialists who live the good life and are too ignorant to understand what socialist/communism really is, because I would rather die, than find myself living under another socialist/communist dictatorship.

I hate violence, and I believe that violence should only be used when your life, or the life of a loved one is at risk, and our lives will be at risk under a fascist/socialist government like the United States of America is being turned into. But if it comes to it, and if another civil war occurs to try to stop socialism/communism taking control of this nation, i will fight and would rather die than see socialism/communism win over this Republic of the United States.

I know he was at a tea party rally. I don’t think they would want him rallying at a socialist or a communist event like occupy.
That American born in another country has more patriotism then the entire occupy movement. It’s good to know that some people still understand what freedom is and how important it is to protect it. I don’t know how these people get their minds so twisted that they are willing to sell out their country and their fellow citizens for the debt on their student loans.
