Good thread. Its been obvious for a number of years that the US is spiraling further and further into fascism, and at this point, is unlikely to be stopped via any conventional means.
Just as Rome used to be a Republic and then turned into a bloated, glutenous empire that could only sustain itself through conquest, so to has America. But I doubt America will last any where near as long as the Roman empire did... America is already swirling the drain, and very soon (if not already), will only be America in name and face, hiding a hollow, vacuous core where once at least the ideals of liberty, freedom, justice, and prosperity, dwelt, but dwell no longer.
Ron Paul is the last hope, IMO... but Im pretty sure that the "land of the free" (lol) is going to collectively say "No thanks, Ron! I wanna see whats down that drain! LETS GO ROMNEY/OBAMA!"
Oh well.edit on 6/3/2012 by CaticusMaximus because: (no reason given)

Well said, and in need of being seen again/bumped. It's a curious thing, I find myself nearly always agreeing in part or in totality with this Author, and the funny thing is, I only later take the time to look at the author and avitar, and a ("Ahh that's Him/Her again' I should'a known) moment arrives, and I smile thinking there is one who is still the voice of reason left here. and the poster.... Caticus Maximus......... hope I spelled that correctly from memory.edit on 5-6-2012 by Plotus because: (no reason given)

Indeed. In the EXACT same way that many liberals have a knee-jerk response against anything 'tea party' related, no matter the obvious common ground actually presented, the social-conservatives lead around the nose by the likes of FOX and Breitbart.com form pre-determined opinions about "Occupy" without ever taking the time to make an actual, informed decision.
And every word of the speech is true too.
It's funny in its own way. But sad too.
Ultimately, it's more important to get this message out there even under this guise.

Patton's Speech to the Third Army was a speech given by General George S. Patton to troops of the U.S. Third Army on June 5, 1944, the day before D-day. Patton delivered variations of the speech on several different occasions to his troops, although the June 5 date is the most well known. A hard copy of the speech exists. It has since become immortalized in George C. Scott's rendition in the movie Patton, where he delivers it in front of a large American flag.

Now, I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.
Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle.

"Magnificent! Compared to war all other forms of human endeavor shrink to insignificance.
God help me, I do love it so!"

I thought Obama was a socialist? No? Now it's the very citizens protesting him and his government that are the socialists? This is getting really confusing with all the name calling and labeling. In the words of Rodney King (who incidently was beaten by true fascists), "Can't we all just get along"? You just don't get PTSD by going to war fighting for Multi-national corporations,

Quotes regarding D-Day, the Battle of Normandy.
By Dwight D. Eisenhower
Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
Addressing the men before the invasion of Normandy
The Normandy landings, codenamed Operation Neptune
The landings were conducted in two phases: an airborne assault landing of 24,000 British, American, Canadian and Free French airborne troops shortly after midnight, and an amphibious landing[4] of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France starting at 6:30 am. There were also decoy operations under the codenames Operation Glimmer and Operation Taxable to distract the German forces from the real landing areas.
Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces was General Dwight Eisenhower while overall command of ground forces (21st Army Group) was given to General Bernard Montgomery. The operation, planned by a team under Lieutenant-General Frederick Morgan, was the largest amphibious invasion in world history and was executed by land, sea, and air elements under direct British command with over 160,000[6] troops landing on 6 June 1944, 73,000 American troops, 61,715 British and 21,400 Canadian[7]. 195,700[8] Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000[6] ships were involved. The invasion required the transport of soldiers and material from the United Kingdom by troop-laden aircraft and ships, the assault landings, air support, naval interdiction of the English Channel and naval fire-support. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
The invasion fleet was drawn from eight different navies, comprising 6,939 vessels: 1,213 warships, 4,126 transport vessels (landing ships and landing craft), and 736 ancillary craft and 864 merchant vessels. Out of the 2,468 major landing vessels in the two task forces deployed on 6 June 1944 only 346 were American. Of the 23 cruisers covering the landings 17 were Royal Navy. In fact of the 16 warships covering the American Western beaches (Utah and Omaha) 50% were British and Allied ships. There were 195,700 naval personnel involved; 112,824 (58%) were British (Royal Navy), 52,889 (30%) US and 4,988 Allied countries
Sword Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach
There is no official casualty figure for D-Day. It is estimated that more than 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded, or went missing during the battle. That figure includes more than 209,000 Allied casualties. In addition to roughly 200,000 German troops killed or wounded, the Allies also captured 200,000 soldiers. Captured Germans were sent to American prisoner-of-war camps at the rate of 30,000 per month, from D-Day until Christmas 1944. Between 15,000 and 20,000 French civilians were killed during the battle.
In the end, the invasion of Normandy succeeded in its objective by sheer force of numbers. By July 1944, some one million Allied troops, mostly American, British, and Canadian, were entrenched in Normandy. During the great invasion, the Allies assembled nearly three million men and stored 16 million tons of arms, munitions, and supplies in Britain
The occupation of Normandy was crucial for the Western Allies to bring the war to the western border of Germany. If the Normandy invasion had not occurred, there could conceivably have been a complete possession of northern and western Europe by Soviet forces
