Greetings!

So... I'm interested in planting my my ears on some good, local Australian metal bands, but unfortunately I have no clue where to start. I know there are quite a few people from OZ here on ATS, so maybe you guys have some first-hand experience?

What is the black metal scene like over there? Any of you metal heads over there able to point me in the right direction? Any decent black metal, and perhaps any post-metal or doom bands worth checking out?

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately your asking at a time when most Australian ATS members would normally be asleep, so I doubt you will get much of a response to this thread. Also black metal isn't my "thing" so I can't offer any suggestions, sorry.

Thanks Spaceg0at. I've heard of Parkway Drive, I really enjoyed their Killing with a Smile Album. Interested to hear what they up to now, so thanks for the video.
Have you heard of Psycroptic, they are a techdeath band and also from Australia I think?

EDIT: Here's a vid:

This is my band. We have an Ep coming out in a month or so, it's alot better than the singles but you might still dig it.
If you like it, tell your friends and buy an EP

Yeah true hey. Can hear the BTBAM influence in the guitars, I like it. Especially the soft sections, nice dynamics

Nice work Scuz2cu2, will definitely keep your guys bandcamp page bookmarked. You guys have a really nice production, you do home recordings or did you go in to studio to record?
Thanks for sharing by the way!

ETA: Just got to the rocky section in Abstraction, Now that's some awesome right there!

Thanks for the share!

It seems like Australia has quite a few hardcore/metalcore bands?
Anyone go to a lot of shows over there? Is that the predominant genre most local bands play over there?
Which cities are a good choice for metal music?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to go over for a holiday sometime soon, so I'm just trying to wrap my head around the local scene. Want to go to as many shows as possible while I'm over there

Thanks for all the contributions so far!

Well I live in Sydney, and there's numerous shows pretty much every night.

The flyers are up everywhere.

Metal is big here, yes.

I’m an old rocker, but I have always liked “The Butterfly Effect” heavy sound, been around for years, but may not be as heavy as you would like.....

Check them out anyway.

PS: Oh, and some friends of mine.... “Torch Le Monde”- you will enjoy!

Some bands that jump to mind immediately are Virgin Black, Destroyer 666, Woods of Desolation, Ne Obliviscaris, Austere, and Vanishing Point.

Wow guys, thanks for the feedback! Means alot!

Our ep is up now for free download at our bandcamp site so get into it! haha.

We recorded at Tommirock studios in Newcastle, NSW but i'm actually engineering the next record and we're going to send it over to the states to get reamped and mixed. Should be excellent.

Lyrically and conceptually, the new album is killer. Definitely something an ATS'er should look out for, if you know what I mean
