Just stumbled over this this morning and got curious as to what would they actually use these cradles for? Seems to me if I am understanding this correctly that they would only offer a short time of protection, 6 hours I believe, which makes me wonder what kind of short term catastrophe are they prepping for? Any ideas anyone.

'Russia’s federal security service recently placed an order for more than 100 capsule cradles, allegedly to protect the babies of important officials from nuclear, chemical, biological or radiological weapons.

Each cradle costs in excess of $60,000 and is designed for children up to a year-and-a-half old. They are made of a special diffusion material and contain capsules to block poisonous reagents, biological aerosols and radioactive dust, according to RT.com.

Babies tucked safely inside the cradle could survive in temperatures ranging from -30C to 40C with at least 18 percent oxygen content in the air for up to six hours and have a shelf life of 10 years. The devices could also be used to keep family pets safe in case of an emergency, according to Izvestia.ru'

hi Des and thanks for posting although not sure what angle you were aiming at in your reply

I am pretty sure this thread was not referring to any US politics

well I hope they are not planning to use the children as guinea pigs because that's what it sounds like.

Well they was invented during the Cold War ...wasn't needed/built, and now they're making them, that should tell you alot

The capsule cradles were originally invented in the former Soviet Union in the 1960s by military engineers. They are currently being produced in a factory near Moscow.

As a means of survival after a Nuclear War,

Since a World War normally kicks of in times like these (economic meltdown), id say they're just planning ahead,

Keep an eyer on the US & China, if they make orders or start building similar survival capsules, ITS ON, they will then both be poking each other in public until one bites, its just a way of saying we are prepared now let the games begin, Personally id keep an eye on Syria, that is where the world powers are playing there games right now, the entire ME in fact

US/NATO Vs Russia/China/Iran are fighting to become the "One World Coalition Government"

They have these for adults right? Like hell I'm going to put Rover in the emergency capsule while I go hide under my bed.. And If you chuck the baby in, it gets to live 5-6 hours longer then you until the oxygen runs out.. Dunno, just seems kinda pointless.

I thought that maybe they would be using them for something else, not necessarily babies, some kind of protective capsule that would protect something valuable to withstand destruction either nuclear or chemical. The shelf life was 10 years so whatever they were protecting would be safe for a reasonable amount of time.

If they were gonna be used for babies then they would only have air for 6 hours, not going to do a lot of good in a nuclear situation really. I really have no idea, just thought the article was interesting and that ATS would maybe have some interesting theories. Of course in light of world events and the ongoing issues in the middle east it is interesting that they order them now when there is so much turmoil. I often feel like we are teetering on the edge of something, but maybe that is the 2012 effect

Syria was the first thing to come to mind. While the actual perpetrators of the recent massacre in Syria is still unclear, the Australian and US governments have already kicked out the Syrian embassy staff and now petitioning for a UN resolution to use force. With our western media in with the rebels it is not too hard to work out who is trying to destabilise the place. This pressure has been going on for a while now, but looks like it is starting to heat up as it is following many of the similar patterns as with Libya. The fireworks should not be too far away unless something quickly comes along to shake things up.

With Russia having a navy base in Syria, it looks like they have been trying to hold it together. But for whatever behind the scene reasons this may be at risk and precautions for escalation are under way.

I'm more than sure they have also addressed that little issue and have a system in place outside the capsules to deal with that, as we know such systems exist currently on board the ISS

And probably exist inside much of the world powers D.U.M.B,'s (Deep Underground Military Bases) or city's if you like

Third hand news...
Bioprewatch cite rt.com as their source.
rt.com in turn cite izvestia as their source.

Since I know everyone else on ATS is too freaking lazy to track down the original story, I've done it for you.

HERE is the original, in Russian...

ФСО прикроет VIP-внуков от химической атаки

and HERE is the english translation, via google translate.

FSO will cover VIP-grandchildren of the chemical attack

If you feel so inclined, HERE is the website for Химкомплектзащита, the company that make this capsule (amongst other interesting things).

Syria is a battle ground between The West & the Russia & China alliance

The people wish to remove there Pro Russia & China Governments Alliance, and so does its best friend Iran wish for its government/people remain in the Anti West Alliance,

Western Special forces are in Syria helping the people to decide its own future one that doesn't bring it in to a direct conflict with the west in the planned future confrontation of the West, a future goal for the Anti West Russia & China Alliance is to take over the West and dominate and control,

Russia & Iran are pumping arms into Syria to fight its own people who want change, Western special forces are training the Syrians to fight back and take control of its own future, Russia/China/Iran want to keep as many of its few key allies in the region as possible, The West see the recent developments in the region a good opportunity to weaken its influences in the region and install peaceful or pro west governments & leaders much like Libya, who was neutral,

But Syria are an actual ally, direct intervention from NATO/US could see a retaliation from Russia/China/Iran

One that could turn nuclear and start WWIII

thanks alfa, I feel properly rebuked, not lazy though, just not good enough at research obviously!
I still am curious as to why now, and how much good these things would actually do in a nuclear event which is not going to be over in 6 hours.
It would make more sense that while the adults are getting kitted out in their hazmat suits then these would protect the babies in the event of some kind of chemical attack.

Still ...Prepping? for what? and why now?

Why do i get the feeling they are for animals and not children.
weird do they have any animals they test things on, like really bad viruses and stuff . baby monkeys perhaps.
i'm thinking if its not getting in then its not getting out either.

Well isn`t Russia the one that had that big deadline on making massive underground bunkers for it`s population.
These capsules would work well protecting the young till you get there it seems.

added on edit
Or even after what they have already gone through with the nuclear power plant melt down. I`d say they could be used just for protection in accidents such as that. Bet there are a bunch of kids that would have been better off if they had them.

These capsules are a stop gap measure. When the balloon goes up you will have a limited amount of time to put your NBC/MOPP gear on. Just think about how hard it is to change the clothes of a squirming child, it is not easy. Instead just throw your kid in the capsule then put on your protective gear and get to your nearest shelter/DUMB. I am not even sure they make NBC gear for kids, or at least I haven't looked hard enough.
