U.S. Bishops Prepare Catholics for Civil Disobedience: ‘We May Need to Witness to the Truth by Resisting the Law’

A bulletin will be inserted into church bulletins in Catholic parishes in June.

The Catholic Church is getting serious about the ObamaCare debacle.

The bulletin insert reminds Catholic parishioners that the bishops have called for “A Fortnight of Freedom”—which they have described as “a special period of prayer, study, catechesis, and public action”—to take place from June 21 to July 4.

(CNSNews.com) - Having organized 43 plaintiffs—including the archdioceses of New York and Washington and the University of Notre Dame—to file 12 different lawsuits against the Obama administration last Monday alleging the administration is violating the religious freedom of Catholics, the Catholic bishops of the United States are now preparing Catholics for what may be the most massive campaign of civil disobedience in this country since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and early 1960s.

“Some unjust laws impose such injustices on individuals and organizations that disobeying the laws may be justified,” the bishops state in a document developed to be inserted into church bulletins in Catholic parishes around the country in June.

“Every effort must be made to repeal them,” the bishops say in the document, which is already posted on the website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. “When fundamental human goods, such as the right of conscience, are at stake, we may need to witness to the truth by resisting the law and incurring its penalties.”

Vote Obama ??

If so, fair play to the Catholic bishops for organising and taking this stance.

Dont vote, organise!

They want to get involved in politics then it's time to strip them of their tax free status. Everyday Americans get taxed so should the church.

Why don't they organize and get the pedophiles out of their church instead of covering it up?

Because the patron saint of pedophiles you know the pope would never let that happen.

Good for the Catholic Church!
Our country was founded on the principal of freedom OF religion.
For those of you who are athiest, I don't understand why you get upset or care that people want to be free to practice their religious beliefs.
Read the Constitution, it does not guarantee freedom from religion rather that the state can not interfere in the free exercise of religion.
Obama's edicts violated the constitution and Catholics have every right to organize, stand up and fight for their rights with peaceful protest.
If you believe that Occupy is a legitimate movement then the Catholics organizing and protesting is also a legitimate movement.
Once we roll over and give up a constitutional right, we are on our way to throwing it out and becoming communist/fascist.
Just because an organization has a few bad apples, like people encourage interns to wear out their knee pads (Clinton), run prostitution rings out of their apartments in DC (Barney Frank) write laws that apply to everyone but themselves (all of congress, both sides), kill young girls and run away (Kennedy) doesn't mean the entire organization is rotten.

Stuff like this really pisses me off, but not for the reason most would think. I am pissed off that all of these people and organizations are taking action over Obamacare, when there are more important issues that have passed, and some that are here now...And they didn't make this kind of noise during those times. What's the deal with that? The Patriot Act was worse than this, but I guess because the majority of people weren't affected by it, as of now, they didn't care.

So people are so selfish that they only care about the Constitution and liberties when it directly affects them. Screw everyone else, and the Constitution as well, unless of course it applies to me...What a great attitude. The church is a huge organization that is able to mobilize many thousands of people. Wonder what will happen?

Is this over the condoms incident? This is a little too far to go over contraception i think. If they don't want the free rubbers they can give them to people who do need them and want them. Got enough highschool kids and poor people stealing condoms from wal-mart.

No, this is over freedom to practice one's religion without government interference.
Obama is mandating all institutions to pay for birth control and I believe abortions for their employees regardless of if it against their religious beliefs to do so.
Some people say it is about birth control, but no it is about government control. Government telling a religious institution, I don't care if you think it is wrong and don't want to do it but you have to pay for what you think is a sin anyway for your employees.

Providing birth control is a moot issue, anyone can go to Planned Parenthood and get free birth control. He.. I see bowls of condoms for the taking in lots of places. Any free clinic will also give free birth control, so it isn't that the employees can't get birth control if they want it, and free to boot. It is the government saying to the Catholic church " You think birth control is a sin and morally wrong, but you have to buy it anyway and give it to your employees, we - the government - doesn't care about your religion and we don't respect your right to religious freedom when it comes to this issue".

This all about money and nothing more because the churches insurance rates may go up. Looks like the church isn't doing their job. If their followers want to go against their faith and obtain birth control then that is a problem between the church and that follower. It's funny how the church cries they are interfering with our rights but seem to forget that in America people have right to freedom of choice. If anyone is interfering with peoples rights it's the church not the government.

I disagree. It is all about freedom of religion.
The birth control issue is secondary.
It is the government telling a religious group that they may not practice their religious beliefs and must purchase items that violate their religious beliefs.
It would be like mandating that all Muslim institutions must pay for pig valves (for the heart) to be put into a damaged heart of an employee.
Or telling all Jewish institutions that they must pay to reverse circumcisions if an employee wants to have it done.
Or telling Muslim institutions that they have to purchase dogs to protect their mosques because dogs are a better form of security than an electric device that can go out easily.
Or telling a Hindu institution that they must buy real cow leather chairs for employees who are allergic to polyester and other upholstery fabrics.
Or telling Muslims/Jews that they must provide a pork dish at all institutionally paid for employee meals to insure fairness and to respect diversity.

It is the government telling a private religious institution that they have to purchase something for their employees that goes against their religious beliefs to own or use.

Ah I see. So if the R.C.C. doesn't issue a rebuttal then this will be the beginning of the government telling you what you can and cannot believe in. Well, theyre already doing that. That is going to happen anyway and this is probably one of the first steps in that direction but, even if they are defeated they will not stop trying. The government has all but issued a declaration of war against catholicism and christianity. This is just the beginning.

I see you are a believer from your signature.
It really started happening a long time ago when all mention of God was banned from schools, if your God was Christian or Jewish that is. Other Gods are ok according to our government right now.
If you believe Revelations, the worst is yet to come, we will end up like the Christians in the Muslim countries eventually, hunted, haunted and killed for our beliefs. This will happen in the US and you are right this is just the beginning if you believe the Bible.
BUT, we can fight it. We should fight it as best we can through lawsuits, and voting and calling our legislators and by where we put our campaign dollars. Jesus did turn the other cheek when it came to personal injury - but he caused a huge ruckus in the Temple when the establishment was doing wrong. He also verbally gave it to the local "government", sadducees, pharisees. and rabbi's who were overly legalistic (putting out too many laws).
Good for the Catholic Church in standing up and saying NO MORE!
Our Constitution is clear - we have freedom of religion and the government needs to accept it.

I know what's coming, i already see the beginning stages. I study prophecy specifically, and i think we're probably in the Time of Sorrows and the first year of the tribulation is about to start. The major "sign in the heavens" is going to be on 12-21-12 and if my guess is right there will be an earthquake the scale of which humanity has never seen before or ever will see again.

I see Islam playing a major role in what's coming and not for our benefit. Islam has already gotten a foothold in the U.S., the Governor of Kansas just delivered a major victory against sharia when he passed his anti-Sharia Law bill, but Sharia has gained a foothold in places like Deerborne M.I. The battle for the U.S. has already begun.

Maybe, but I have been through this before when people were certain it was the end. You probably remember 2000, then people said 2001 because of the uncertainty of the exact year of Jesus death. You could be right, but you could be wrong too. Back in the 70's there were lots of books written saying that the end was coming quickly and it didn't.

So we are obligated to not act as though it is tomorrow. We need to live for today and act as if our children will live tomorrow. That is the only way there might be hope for our children to be able to worship tomorrow if it comes.

You see any moment could be the end of "our personal" world. The end of "our" world could come in a flash, car accident, tornado, flood, we had a good friend who was walking on the beach and a huge wave came along and washed him out to sea on vacation. We should always be prepared for our personal end. However, for the sake of those who come after us we should also live as though "the end" is in God's hands and could be many many years away.

What the Catholic Church is doing is right and good, protecting the faith. They are not just trying to protect the Catholic faith, but also all faiths and all christian denominations.

The Catholic Layity did. It's called 'For the Sake of God's Children'. Google it.

That being said ... This is a good idea by the Bishops (geee .. they finally came up with a good idea), but the problem is they are having this call for prime family vacation time. The week before 3th of July. Everyone will be on family vacations or it'll be too hot to take the kids out in the weather, etc etc.

I predict .. FLOP.
