I put this in general chit chat because I don't really want it to sound "evil" under the religion forums and it doesn't seem like what I have to say would belong in that section.

What does everyone think about the number 666? It's just a number, right? That's always been my opinion.

Before I say what I have to say I'll offer a short explanation of my views on religion so nobody will get the wrong idea. I consider myself to be agnostic, although those around me think of me as an Atheist, I don't see myself as such. I live in an area of eastern Tennessee that is very Christian, many call it bible belt. I wont lie, those kinds of people annoy me a lot. I have no problem with religious people but extremists just get under my skin, especially those who believe their hatred is somehow supported by their books when in most cases it isn't. My father believed that he could beat religion into me as a child and I did read the Christian old testament, some really big old looking one that my dad said has been passed down in his family and a regular new testament. Growing up I hated Christians because of all of the hatred I seen around me and because of one of the ways that I interpreted those books when I read them, the older one seemed awfully "evil" in my opinion. I actually wanted to see people claiming to be Christians suffer because that's how most of them seemed to feel about anyone who didn't fall under the exact same beliefs as them, beliefs that to me seemed very misguided if you will, so I felt that they deserved to suffer for being such cruel people. That was my teenage years though and now as a young adult my views have changed, I no longer "hate" all Christians, just the stupid ones.

Anyway enough about that stuff for now and back to the supposed "number of the beast." I've always felt like people put WAAAAY too much into a simple number, I mean it' just a freakin number. Do any of buy that crap about "lucky numbers"? Some people have a number they claim to be their lucky number. I don't know my stance on lucky numbers, or luck for that matter. I mean it doesn't seem to make much sense that someone could have a "lucky number" to me but I don't rule it out either. So with that being said, all I can say is that if "lucky numbers" are real, mine must be 666...

I always did like the number as a child, mostly because it p!$$ed so many people around here off, or at least that's why I think I liked the number so much. When I was around 10 I started getting into poker, mostly just played texas hold em. I've always been very interested in math and science so I tried to mentally keep track of what hands seemed to be the most common for me and stuff like that. I eventually noticed that I was getting more three of a kinds than just about anything else, the majority of which were three 6s. The thing is, while I have lost hands with three of a kind, I have yet to this day ever lose a hand with three 6s, I have folded because it seemed like the wisest decision at the time but even then as far back as I can remember I would have won the hand with my 6s if I would have kept goin. I've even won a few games with three 6s. I have also had others I was playing with get this hand of course and the odd thing is that I always seem to win the hand when the number comes up. So I now consider 666 to be my lucky poker hand.

Around this time last year, after finishing my first year of college, I discovered that my gpa was still the same as it was after finishing the first semester, which was 3.666, Why didn't they just round up to 3.67... The other day I was participating in an event in which each person would be assigned a random number between 1 and 99999, my random number was 666, granted it was just some silly little video game tournament and that was the method used to randomly pair us off to start. I made it to the end where I faced a good friend for the winners spot and the other participants voted that we use random characters in that final round vs each other. Well that friend got lucky and got his preferred character, he is already better than me at that particular game. I got a character I don't much care for and in my opinion really suck at using but I still managed to beat him and win the tournament.

So I've been thinking about posting something here and seeing what you guys think about it ever since that night. Is this all just a bunch of coincidence, pretty crazy if it is. Or is the number 666 my lucky number? What if it is my lucky number? Is that good, bad, or just what it is? So there you have it, the number of the beast, am I the beast? If so I guess you guys got pretty lucky cause the beast really isn't that bad of a guy lol...

I am very interested to see how some of you interpret this so please do so. I'm just really curious why a totally random number that I've always felt was kinda cool just because people who I thought put way too much into a simple number get angry, frustrated, or scared when they see it, seems to be my luckiest number if there is such a thing.

It is an identifier, a code for a name.

The number itself is just a number.

It is not evil in itself, it's a number.

You should read the details behind this particular prophetic identifier, rather than rely on the crap that Hollywood spews.

Dear doomedtoday,

I am a Christian and am sorry that your father tried to push it down your throat. It is not about being a smart or stupid Christian, it is about saying what the reason is for the hope inside you and letting others ask questions, not forcing them to say they believe, that is not Christianity, that is tyranny.

So I've been thinking about posting something here and seeing what you guys think about it ever since that night. Is this all just a bunch of coincidence, pretty crazy if it is. As for the number, it is just a number. We are told that it is the number of a man (the Hebrew numbers were both letters and numbers so you could add up the letters to any name and reach a total). The letters in the name of the anti-christ will add up to 666, that does not mean that every name that adds up to 666 is the name of the beast. There are atheists that believe that Nero's name adds up to 666 and that is who they believe Revelations is referring to; but, that is stupid. Anyone alive during Nero's time knew that you did not have to take a mark to buy and sell and that the word had not been spread to all parts of the world. 666 means nothing in and of itself, it shouldn't bother you if it is your "lucky" number.

Now, I also play Texas No Limit Holdem and have won a couple of tournaments. There are no lucky numbers, there are hands that you play well and hands that you do not play well. I will not play jacks hard, it is a horrible starting hand as it is easily overplayed. For your poker, worry about how to play different hands and not about the hand itself. My advice and my opinion. Peace.

I'm not really relying on the crap Hollywood spews... Did you even read the entire post? I stated that I've always thought that it was more or less just a number, which in my opinion is kind of the opposite of what Hollywood would have one believe. I mean I suppose you could claim that I have been relying on the crap those claiming to be Christian around me spill because it is from them where most of what I've ever heard about the number comes. Do I think it's some kind of "evil" number? I seriously doubt it. This is just something that has been on my mind a bit lately and I thought it a bit more interesting than the majority of the crap we've been seeing around here on ATS lately so I figured I would see how others around here feel about it.

Thanks man, these are the kind of well intended replies I was looking for. Now that I am no longer a teen and have had time to think about things I do understand that a certain type of people claiming to be one thing does not represent all others. And I'm sure as I continue to travel the road of life my opinions will certainly continue to evolve for the better. M dad has mental health issues and thought he was doing the right thing, it sucks that that's how it had to be but I don't hold any grudges now that I'm an adult and can do things my way without others continuously punishing me for not being them.

As far as the poker/luck thing goes, I kind of see your point and have always felt that its more about play style and skill than luck, though luck does play its part, unless you're a freakin genius lol - then I'm pretty sure its all about skill. I see where you're coming from though, there really isn't any "lucky hands." Some people think they have one though, and I'll admit with that particular one coming up so much I have thought of it as mine. I don't rely on any one hand though, I always try to play skillfully. I love texas hold em, its just too bad that I haven't been able to play with anybody in over a year because nobody around me nowadays has much of an interest in any kind of card games.

Its not a number. It is the free choice of a bunch of fools playing a game with malice and intent to harm others for entertainment. Although, it is all going to backfire on them. They want be able to buy their way into Heaven!

The number 666 refers to the Hydra of revelations, symbolic of you my demon friends! I'm talking directly to the demons here, not the humans, but you guys can pay attention if you want. I know you have to stay hidden and probably ignore me to keep up appearances, but there are ways around that if you want to play. Just like the Hydra of today's myth regenerates itself, you are being restored too! I'm covering the cost of your sins like Jesus did for me, so now you're going back to Heaven (in about 20 years). Not all of you, because some will simply choose not to be saved. However, for those of you that do, there's no catch! Simply decide you want to be good, and start doing what you think you should. Oh, and Satan can't send you to Hell. He doesn't have the ability to. Therefore, you have no reason to remain his slave.

For the humans, you know how lack of evidence isn't evidence of lack? If you don't believe in demons, consider the possibility that you don't have any evidence for your disbelief. You can't see them, but we couldn't see atoms 1000 years ago either. They manipulate you like puppeteers. Ironically, while they are secretly pressuring you into being bad, they are experiencing the same thing, by an evil even unknown to them! How do I know? Am I delirious, naive, and confused? Do I not handle information rationally like everybody else? Wait and see!

I think this is all ontopic... Anyway, the poster mentioned how lack of information can lead to premature assumptions. I've considered it. Hopefully you will too if you choose to comment on my "theory".
