Iranian sailors chase off pirates attacking U.S. ship

edition.cnn.com

Iranian sailors helped scare off armed pirates who attacked an American cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, Iranian state media reported Thursday.

Iran detains 13 alleged pirates after clash

It's the latest example of U.S.-Iranian cooperation on pirate-infested high seas despite a wave of tensions between Washington and Tehran over the decades.

I dont expect this thread to get much attention, its not your usual doom porn..

i just thought it was nice to see a positive Iran / U.S story for once..

Read it while its hot , this news of help and co-operation will soon get buried in the MSM torrent of BS....

And of course even at the end of this article they had to say

Tehran has threatened to close the the strait if sanctions are imposed on its exports of crude oil. The West has been using sanctions and diplomacy to try to stop Iran from producing nuclear weapons.

couldn't just leave it as a positive story eh? had to drizzle a bit of hate on the end.. nothing changes...

Good find!

It is nice to see that Iran isnt all the msm makes them out to be. Of course, expect the msm to spin it into something negative... If they even report it at all! S&f

Very good to hear. Perhaps there is still hope. Although it wouldnt surprise me one bit to learn the pirates were actually sent in by Iran only to show their people that the US needed their help.

edit: for the record I am not saying that the US is above such tactics either. Just cant see them doing it and making Iran look good in the process.

Very cool! "Can you feel the love?"
I guess this was their payback for when US Navy assisted some Iranian (military?) sailors who got into difficulties a while ago. On the other hand, it would be kinda cruel to "stand there" with 1000 sailors and just watch them drown.

Nice gesture from Iran.

Lol tactic?

Funny enough you said Exactly what the official U.S response was... "well we helped them a bunch of times in the past"

From the PTB , No i cannot 'feel the love', from ordinary human beings helping each other in extraordinary situations .. yes , yes i can. strange that isn't it?

And I'll bet the U.S. guys were grateful for the help

It's only the U.S. elite that hates Iran, most U.S. citizens have probably never even met an Iranian. One thing I've learned is, I don't hate people because my government tells me to, in fact, I may even like the people my government hates, because I certainly don't trust my government

Good deal. It shows that there can be a little team work even if they both do not "see eye to eye", to say the least. I hope they both can keep their egos in check for a while and we can hear a little more of these kinds of stories in the future.

This is a conspiracy site...

Consider the following...

1.) Iran staged the event [Since it was reported by their official News Agency first] to prop up their lagging Global Public opinion.

2.) Sailors helping Sailors in time of need has been going on for thousands of years setting all politics and ideologies aside. No real significant national heroism...

3.) Similar stories of US sailors helping Iranian sailors get dismissed as "Propaganda from the MSM" But this is supposedly different and more significant...

4.) Many of this threads replies read like poorly scripted Iranian PR.

Also heard about Americans coming to the aid of Iranians at sea but then agian also have heard about they kidnapped British soldiers in international waters.

Iranian propaganda is what i am leaning toward after all the tried to kill a Saudi ambassador here in the US they had their proxy wars against the US and Israel they just executed a so called "mossad" spy.

Ding ding ding!!!!

They just executed a mossad spy and now are trying to "save face" for murdering someone.

Sailors in general help other seamen. During the height of the cold war the americans and the russians had as adversarial a relationship one could get. yet the submariners on both sides felt closer to their enemy submariners than to their own military. A common bond, a common hardship. brings most people together.

Is that why bonds here on ATS are stronger than most internet friendships?

Those dastardly Iranian terrorists, they could not possibly have done this, it was a ruse, a bait and switch, it must have been, no Iranian 3 headed monster could possibly not wish evil and harm on poor innocent Americans, least of all defend them.

I seriously hope you are being sarcastic about this.

First off, judging from your Avatar, you are Canadian, so you have no right to say stuff like that because they haven't done anything to Canadians.

Second, you are as brainwashed as politician's kids!

Third, bad taste of sarcasm/joke!

Fourth, WAKE THE HELL UP!!!
