Erectile Dysfunction is a very common disorder in men who have unchecked diabetes and high blood pressure. The many years of insulin probably affected his blood vessels, and not just in his johnson, either.

Poor vascular health due to insulin is the cause of the ED. As a woman, I am often amazed that a man considers his worth solely in terms of how big his member is, and how well it works. However, be that as it may. this man should NOT have been cleared for surgery because, in diabetics, appendages are often prone to poor healing and infections, which is why diabetics are told not to even attempt to cut their own toenails, because an infection can turn gangrenous in a hurry due to poor blood flow, and diabetics who lose their feet, legs, hands or arms from gangrene is quite common.

Having said that, I feel the issue of a flesh eating bacteria is in a different category. No matter how young or healthy you are, if the flesh-eating little monsters get underneath the skin and start multiplying, it is a disaster, no matter what.

The best place to pick up the most horrible infections known to man is a hospital. Hospitals and nursing homes are excellent breeding grounds for aggressive, mutated bacteria and viruses.

Bottom line: If the man lost his wang to a gangrenous infection of the sort common to diabetics, he may have a case, but it is unlikely, unless he was not told of the risk and was incredibly ignorant about his condition. If it was the flesh-eating variety that is now popping up all over the southeast United States, he may need to sue the hospital for negligence in keeping their operating and hospital rooms sterile.

Either way, my personal opinion is that he was a fool for not trying to control his diabetes carefully, because ED is a common side effect of years of insulin ingestion. He was an even bigger fool for not accepting his physical limitations and trying other means to make his wife happy. Now the He is a She. Time to shop for some strap-on equipment. Bummer.

So the most "sterile enviroment,,know,,in the general area of the guys penis,,
im sure that it would have been pretty bacteria/fungus/germ/sterile secure?
its his penis,,not a big area too keep sterile,, apparently,, not a very big area at all,,,anymore,,
but
my point is

The best place to pick up the most horrible infections known to man is a hospital. Hospitals and nursing homes are excellent breeding grounds for aggressive, mutated bacteria and viruses.

best place to pick up the most horrible infections known to man is a hospital. true,,
and one of the most STERILE PLACES known to man is a hospital. Also true,,, (Birk,,Locke),,
known to man,,,thats right ,,it is not unreasonable,, too expect the hospital,, too at least be sterile,, around his penis.

makes one wonder why everyone gets that,,EVERYONE wash there hands,,10 times a day,, etcccrap.
sterility breeds bacteria,, they forget that in hospital school?

The bacteria is not running rampant, the media is. This event took place when he was 60 and now he is 65. He has surely learned how to pee by now...

Anyways, That is what the media does. You may think things are running rampant, but when a story becomes headline news, a point of interest (who decides those points?), the media picks up with whatever similarities they can find and run with it.

I've always theorized that ED could be in most cases cured if the guy was attempting to bang a hot 23 year old and not some 65 year old lady (no disrespect)

Maybe the problem isn't with his penis originally but what he was looking at while trying to get his penis to work. just saying.

Sounds like there could be a good joke in there....

A guy, an anesthesiologist and a hooker walk into a bar..... (a little bit of clever rhetoric)..... and then his penis fell off.

Seriously though, that could just give you nightmares. Even if had ED, I expect he could still use the semi-useless thing for talking a good pee. Oh wait, he had diabetes which means he probably had problems with his prostate gland as well so maybe it was almost totally useless?

Cheers - Dave

And how many of these surgeries would this doc be doing if he told them, "your penis may fall off from a flesh eating bacteria". I bet this wasn't on the surgical consent form.

Why surgery for ED? That's my question. There are pills and implants. Even a pump!
I feel as though we aren't getting the whole story. There is something missing... No pun intended

Not necessarily the flesh eating bacteria, but the rest is common to diabetics: "Because of poor blood flow, this surgery may never heal, and could potentially lead to you losing your member." is not all that far-fetched a caution in this situation.

I may not be of an age category to comment based on experience, but I'm pretty sure that pills are out the door when u have high blood pressure...because its blood pressure that makes the whole thing work. Pumps I could concede to, and implants was what he was trying lol.

All in all, not faulting him for trying, just for sueing.

Clarification: I don't even watch TV any more and know that almost every ad for a drug says consult a doctor or "do not take if you have high blood pressure"

They say the worst thing that can happen is that a man gets what he wishes for
Like the Irishman who asked a Leprecaun for a little head
and right away his hat fell down around his shoulders..

I think some one may have said
"Eat me!"

Ouch.

Impossible to know who is at fault without having access to the details of the case. If, for instance, he didn't properly follow his course of antibiotics, then he would be at fault, no doubt, but that could be hard to prove.

Flesh eating bacteria is nasty. A guy I went to college with actually died of it a couple years back. I only know of it because it was mentioned by his family in the Class Notes in an alumni update. Pretty messed up. I didn't really know him, but it's odd to think of that guy having died that way. He seemed like a decent enough fellow.

I wouldn't really be worried about lawsuit money. I'd probably commit suicide.
But that's just me...

... and on the fifth day of the creation of the heavens and the earth, God made the penis eating bacteria. And God saw that it was good.

Until he proves to me he took care of the wound in the proper manner and sought immediate medical attention at the first sign of infection, he gets nothing.

Erectile dysfunction is a subtype of diabetic autonomic neuropathy that is associated with DM. The types of neuropathies associated with diabetes are:

Symmetric peripheral
Autonomic
mononeuropathy.

Each one of these subtypes, has its own subtypes, so those of you who have this keep your glucose in check!

Diabetes is a very very bad disease and it is only becoming more common in the USA.
