Subscribed Threads just "dropping off?"

Today I logged on, to find some of my threads I had posted on and some I had created had vanished from my subscribed threads list on the right hand side of myATS.

Fearing the dreaded 404, I made haste to their forums where I realised they are still there, but for some reason will not reappear on my subscribed threads list. As most are short stories I have entered in the various contests, I would like to see them returned as I can keep track of comments they have as they happen.

So what's the go? Do threads just "disappear" if they haven't been 404'd, or do they just vanish off your list if they have had no action for a little while? Have never had this happen before, so I'd be interested to know if it's just me, or is there a reason for this.

This has happened to me as well. My theory is that if a thread goes dormant, ie. no new replies for a period of time, it gets archived and we loose subscriptions, but again, thats just my theory as I have never seen another explanation.

Normally I would agree, but these are threads I created, and they are only a few weeks old. I've had threads sit dormant for a few weeks, but haven't had them just disappear the way these did. I have them back by posting a reply on them, but couldn't get them back by any means other than that. It just seems weird they just vanished.
At least they weren't 404'd though

Yes, threads drop off the list in MyATS after a period of no activity. I'm not exactly sure after how long - 30 days perhaps?

You can still access (and manage) your subscribed threads via Subscriptions or view your posts/threads via your profile.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has been inactive. Has anyone noticed how boring it has been recently?

"dormant" subscribed threads will show up again on the list.

As soon as somebody posts, it goes to the top again.

I have had some that were dormant for several months and "came back" when a new post happens.

I think I noticed that also.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I usually never have more than 5-10 threads in myATS at any one time since I unsubscribe pretty quickly.

However, from memory, the list only goes up to 50 threads in myATS. So threads will 'fall off' your list after 50 although you are technically still subscribed.

That is the way it used to work- not sure if it still does.

Are you guys saying that they just disappear completely? As in, if you log off for three months and come back one day, all threads in myATS will have disappeared until bumped with new posts? I didn't know that, if true. lol

Maybe. Although if you go to the Tools dropdown then hit Subscriptions, everything you've subscribed to and not unsubscribed from will be there. The only way to get them out of there is to unsubscribe them. After a period of dormancy, they'll drop off My ATS and will resurface if there's updated activity.

Oh, very bizarre!

I am familiar with that subscription link but after checking it out upon you mentioning it, I see threads I am apparently still subscribed to from long ago that are no longer on myATS list.

Very cool! Thanks. So I guess they DO drop off from myATS list after a certain amount of time.

Well I worked it out that the threads I had created, two of my entries for the writing contests were done around the fifth of May, making them about 15 days since they had been created. I only have about 10 or so at any time in the list, so I am at a loss as to why they jusy suddenly went awol. The only thing, as Gemwolf said, is the fact they must have a time limit on how long they are there before they drop off due to inactivity, that limit must be around the 15 day mark.
I'm the same as you though, once a thread becomes stagnant, I usually take it off the list, so as not to flood the page with threads that have stalled.

I noticed that a thread I was awaiting reply to dropped off my list after about 2 weeks. Why subscribe? It will now be even more difficult to keep track of responses to threads. If this were MySpace, someone would surely get a raise for this new block in communication. Well done, ATS.
