I live in New York City, two blocks from my apartment is a palce called "The Level CLub". The decorations on the building include, the seal of the US, NY state, and, between those two, the Masons, these decorations are large concrete reliefs much like you see outside of state buildings. The mason symbol is also visable on the awning next to the name of the club. I first noticed it because the architecture is reminiscent of a Mesopotamian style, it sort of sticks out and I was surprised I neevr saw it before. If anyone's interested I'll take pics and post the adress

Does everything need to be a judgement call?

It was a statement of fact for those who might be interested.

Chilling as we speak (type)

I asked if you did this all the time? To a mere statement of fact you automaticaly assume there has to be a value judgement behind it and out shoots the question.. again no good/bad to what i am saying either. Don't be so worried about the good/bad thing.. especailly in statemts of fact "the bus is red" cant possible be good/bad, the bus is either red or not thats all, the rest is your call.

I think the word "blatant" in the thread title (flagrant, unashamed, loudly obtrusive) is the problem. So Bill's question makes sense.

When something is blatant, it is usually not a good thing.

Just an observation . . .

lol, before this turns into a discussion of the english language, the question was directed towards anyone who would be interested, personally I have no opinion on the masons, the use of the word "blatant" was designed to cathc the eye of any Mason conspiracy theory advocate, essentailly my inteded audience. That said, the offer is still open, I'm off today, I could have the pics up tonight

Are you surprised or something? Apparently its a masonic lodge or affiliated building. There are masonic lodges all over the place. Why does it matter that its 'blatant'?

Do you have any purpose for posting this thread or these pictures? What I mean is, what sort of discussion are you trying to have, or are you not going to participate in any sort of discussion?

I agree, why does it matter that it is "blatant"?

On the way to work I passed three buildings that were blatantly labeled "school". If anyone wants, I will take pictures of them. We also have many other blatantly labeled buildings around where I live.

Ummmm. Not to sound to condescending but why jump down Bill's throat for asking that question? I agree with Nygdan.

The original poster has made a claim that he has found a masonic building. As masonic lodge buildings are in nearly every town in the US and normally clearly marked, the statement itself is not even newsworthy - it's like saying "I found a WalMart in a street in my town". So why bother posting in the first place unless there is going to be some elaboration?

Bill merely wanted to know what was the point of the post.

I am blatantly aware of Bill's blatant question regarding the blatantly Masonic building.

That's a pretty blatant one-liner, too.

I've heard it rumored that are these blatant Masonic buildings are called Lodges or Temples. The Masons usually put up big blatant signs identifying them as Masonic.

At what point did you determine that the building in NYC was blatantly Masonic?

Don't yoiu just love this? They claim we are a secret society, and then when we point out that cannot be true because our buildings are clearly marked and our lodges listed in the PHONE BOOK, they complain because our buildings are BLATANTLY MARKED AS MASONIC HALLS...

Talk about doublespeak...

I checked and this is the first time that Shadowflux has posted in the secret societies section and I really don't think that Shadowflux meant any harm (or rather I don't see it being anti-Masonic in any way) by this, it looks like a simple observation that was probably shocking. I know that when I first read all the anti-mason books and then saw the big G and square and compass on the main Lodge downtown I was a bit surprised that a secret society would be so blatant about their signage, but as you stated Freemasonry is not very secret any more, so why should Freemasons not put signs on the enterance of the Lodge?

As for the Lodge that I petitioned it has no signage whatsoever, when I went to look for it I could not even find it, and when I asked the secretary about it he laughed and said "Oh ya, we keep forgetting about that, someone was supposed to paint the sign and I guess they forgot to bring it back. That was about two years ago now." So by no means does every Lodge mark the building but from what I have seen most do, and to someone new to the study of Freemasonry it does look rather blatant.

I hate to be picky about this, but just so we know, blatant means: flagrant, unashamed, loudly obtrusive.

If anything, a Masonic sign, and most signs for that matter, would simply be "conspicuous", and not blatant.

Perhaps some people are getting the impression that the Masons brazenly put out a sign that had a dancing goat on it, or whatever.

I think Shadowflux was simply surprised to find a sign that represents a secret society. His first time, so I guess he got excited about it. I might have, too. In any case, he noted in a follow-up post that he deliberately used the word "blatant" in order to get our attention, and didn't actualy mean the sign was "blatant."

LOL, he certainly DID get everyone's attention.

do Masonic Lodges usually have names? the author states that the place he is referring to is named " The Level CLub". just curious as a non biased observer.

Nygdan, this in no way means I am slandering the Masons!!!

This is the first time I posted in the secret society section because, frankly, I don't put much credence in the secret society theories. Especially not since the secret shadow government IS ACTUALLY CALLED The Shadow Government. I simply thought people who believe in a world wide masonic conspiracy would welcome any evidence offered to them, perhaps I was wrong, so sue me. If you had done any research, however, you would find that this neighborhood is designated as an historical zone. The enitre neighborhood was designed by the same architect that designed The Dakota (first apartment building in NYC and place where John Lennon was shot) hence, this building is quite old. It's also quite a bit more than some little building with "Mason" painted on the front, this thing is huge and the archetctual style is obviously old. But, if no one wants any pictures of it then you could've just said no, I was simply offering what I could to the Masonic conspiracy theorists. Perhaps you'd rather have pictures of the building decorated with gigantic stautes of Egyptian gods and the obscure qoutes carved into the front of the building. Either way, the offer on the level club is still open and anyone interested in achetecture might like to see the effectual use of a Mesopotamian style in a major metropolitan city.
