I watched it. It was pretty good up until they posted the cell phone video. Wow, how fake that looked! A cell phone from that era would not have the resolution to be enlarged that big and be so clear. And the mermaid looked sooooo digitally added in.

DHS didnt take anything down. Its all owned by Animal Planet. As it turns out this show was actually released in 2011. The scientists are all actors. And nothing in the show could be confirmed but the "bloop". So, it was one big farce. The websites just gave added validity to the show.

I thought it was fascinating. the part about the navy testing the sonar weapon was extremely saddening. who knows what they heard on that recording, can't say it was a mermaid, but the sonar weapon has to bve stopped

Thanks for the video link! I really enjoyed watching it.
It should be added to the opening post.
I do not know how true it all is, but it seems very possible to me.
Someone in here who has more information?

I just watched this on YouTube (part 1 below)

www.youtube.com...

...due to the 'cameraphone video' turning up on Snopes
and then coming here, after I'd watched it, to see what's been said so far.

The link above is what I gather is the "real" and "uncensored" version - although the screamer-movie style cameraphone vid wasn't in it (which made me think it was a viral ad for the docu, maybe).

On the one hand, I'm REALLY annoyed at Animal Planet going all Ancient Aliens on us, and the predictable glut of threads on this site to come regarding nautical anomalies, aquatic ape theory and so on (The Bloop has been a favourite of mine for years, and I guess I don't really mind that getting more exposure as it's pretty bizarre).

On the other, taken as a piece of television alone...I really enjoyed it. It used a lot of 'real' scientific and 'bizarro' material and put it together to make something that was entertaining and thought-provoking. Halfway through I remembered reading about how James Cameron's next movie is apparently billed as "Avatar in the ocean" - and right away I was thinking of just the kind of thing that this docu has come up with.

Hmm.. I guess since Wikipedia is never wrong, there's no truth to this at all!
Just watched a re-run today though, not very convincing, almost every "video" has cgi effects, including the one with the two boys. I'd like to get a recording of the bloop however and play that in the ocean, just to see what happens

You do know this is a fictitious film?

IMDB Information

The fictional film tells the story of a scientific team's investigative efforts to uncover the source behind mysterious underwater recordings and an unidentified marine body.

Mermaids: The Body Found Wikipedia Article

I also caught a rerun of this today. I have never been into Mermaids, not even in the slightest... but it was absolutely thought provoking.

It left me with one main question: If there is any truth to this, even a little bit, why would the government allow it to be aired?

Let me run to ATS and do a search to find out!!! and sure enough you answer the question completely. Whether I believe what they told me or not, they allowed it to be aired by claiming its "fiction" and a "mockumentary".

Do I believe now? Not necessarily, but I'm more open to it than I was before.

And to whomever claims cell phones didn't record that well in 2004 - that was the same year I bought my i860 and recorded my cousins ENTIRE wedding with it (including the reception) which I then burned to DVD and it looks fabulous blown up on a 30" widescreen TV. - Just sayin.

I just watched this show 7/15 10pm, except it was on The Discovery Channel. I found it very interesting, but it seemed like a "scenario". Does anyone know for 100 percent that the actual events (ie. Scientists being real, remains found in Great White, Navy doing cruel sonar experiments and boys finding a mermaid on beach filmed it on a camera phone:was the footage shown real? Didn't look like it to me but IDK). Snopes staes that these events are a hoax

I watched it too. I thought it was great. Not really a lot different from the dinosaur shows. I don't remember the scientists names but maybe that's a place to start. Maybe something could be found on NOAA since that's who they supposedly worked for.

yep, me too.....my opinion, FAKED....here is why.

The bulk of there proof came from the two boys. One has, in 2005, a cam-corder phone, with incredible zoom feature which happens to know exactly when the hand was going to move,

Do a search of the Scientists nothing on them other than the show.

People, as much as it would be the coolest thing, its FAKE.

I want to believe that there is at least one species of very intelligent life absent of malice, thats what impressed me. an intelligent species absent of malice.

FAKED, and shame on History and Animal Planet

you know I have given this a lot of thought since I posted
it was extremely well done, but in hindsight, they lost all credibility when the thing sat up

still it was a good show
got me thinking - and thats always a bonus!

You should use Search function. There was a thread about this. Animal Planet: Mermaids Hoax or not?, page 1

The poster in that thread gave a link on the Animal Planet documentary. When you go to that page, it will show a Chinese version of it due to the actual USA film was banned because of things said about our military. In my opinion, our military needs to stop what they are doing, they are destrying so much precious life.

Back on topic, please watch that vid. It was THEEEE best I have seen and it really got to my heart. Much of it was computer generated, but really makes you wonder. There is still one researcher/scientist out there that is continuing the pursuit to really find and hopefully make contact with those amazing beings.

I do apologize for not watching the vid you have presented. But please do check out that other vid. We know that too many times researchers get close to finding answers, and big honchos come and confiscate everything. That really pisses me off.

It does make a lot of sense to me that as to why mermaids are not found is because they migrate with the other animals. What was amazing to me was at the end of the vid I had watched, it showed fishermen and (wild) dolphins working together to bring in huge catches of fish. The dolphins would also get caught in the nets and remain calm, knowing the fishermen would release them and at the end of the haul, the fishermen would repay the dolphins for their help corralling fish, with a good share of the catch.
