Interesting information and way over my head technically. I don't currently have insurance but as soon as I do I will follow up on your testing recommendations.

Just be careful, people with autoimmune system problems also have a predisposition for other problems. Pancreatitis for example, which has two obvious sources, gall stones and alcohol consumption. My pain was so bad in my 20's that I drank too much, a box of 12 beer a night. Well, at least until I had to go to the hospital because my pancreas was about to explode, Dr. told me I would have died if I had kept drinking that night. It's now one of the reasons I can't take prednisone, because of my potential for a recurrence of pancreatitis. So as I said, be careful, everything has a cost.

Cheers - Dave

I am very spiritual and I have tried several alternative therapies but nothing with magnets.

I will research this, I am sure hobby lobby near by has round magnets.

A lot of ideas for relief:

Remedies for Arthritis

Omega 3 - Soreness almost completely gone

Efficient way to eliminate my pain caused by Arthritis
I tried various over counter pain killers to reduce the pain and those pain killers don’t help much. I also can’t take too often, those will damage my liver. After I used Whitee Patch which you just put the patch on your uncomfortable spot or Joint. I also drank LC Balacer made by nature herb,it won't hurt my body. The patch helped to relieve 85% of my pain! Eliminating my Low Back & Sciatic Pains in 2 Week. It's amazing!
I searched google herbhealthonline to find the product. LINK

Cayenne for Severe Joint/Knee pain
What I did was put some of the cayenne pepper in cocoa butter and spread it on my wrists. It didn't hurt anything, and seemed to help, but again am not sure since I'm not being really troubled by it right now. LINK

Re: Apple Pectin for joint pain relief
I have been using Apple Pectin for sence 1996. In 1998 I found ou that I could use a pharmasutical grade of Apple pectin in capsule form and have been doing so ever sence. I created a product that I have had little success in marketing although where I work the people have found it to work. 40 to 50 people have tried it most with results with in 2 to 3 days. LINK

I haven't had time to read every post in this thread...but the posts i have read are very informative and enlightening. It must be awful to be in so much pain and not be able to take pain relieving meds. Just out of curiosity have you had a blood test to rule out any deficiences with Potassium, Iron, Magnesium etc...Might be worth a try!

Also, I wonder if a particular Blood Group might pre dispose people to such a degenerative condition. I understand there are books which recommend a specific diet to a Blood Type. Anythings worth a try!

I am Blood Type A and it recommends I eat more of a Vegetarian Diet....

Something else to ponder

Good Luck and keep us posted of your progress and any remedies that work for you

As you know, osteoarthritis is very painful. I myself have arthritis in my knees and know the pain. I am just barely younger than you, so when I recently found out about my condition, I was shocked.

I just recently started taking 2 tsp a day of cod liver oil, and 3 oz of apple cider vinegar. I am now trying to quit coffee since it contains tannins that are bad for OA. I have read that calcium, copper, fish oils and vinegar are the best things for it. I also read recently (dont have a link sorry) that Glucosamine does not actually help....I am still doing research myself as I do not want to take any narcotics! Aleve helps a little bit but does have side effects.......

Good luck to you!

You are lucky, Aleve does nothing for me! My Doctor keeps reccomending 2 pills twice a day. I tell him I've been doing that and he just says you need to stay on them and he is a specialist in Sports Medicine....go figure. I here you on the Glucosamine thing but I will say that it has a lot to do with formulation and Cosamine DS does work! Or, at least it does for me. It is clinically proven to work as well. With that said, some interesting clinical evaluation of Krill oil as well as SAM-e is out there for review as well. I am hopefull that one will work enough to allow me to do the things I like without grimmacing all day!

edit to add: I forgot to mention hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid in conjunction with Sam-e has been proven to repair and rebuild cartilage. On another note, SAM-e is a prescription medication in Germany and Italy, I think UK as well. It has been prescribed for a long time in these country's and has been touted as a mood elevator, joint health and liver support drug.

Hello, friend, I too suffer with chronic pain. My advice is do not fall into the narcotics trap, pain drugs only work on a temporary basis. Here is a little thing I do to relive pain, you may wish to try it.

Run a bath, as hot as you can stand. I even take a large kettle and heat water on the stove to almost boiling, and add this to the bath water. Fill the tub, bless the water, and slowly get in. Be careful when those jewels hit the hot water! OK, now you are in. Close your eyes and go as deep as you can into your mind. Find the place where the pain sensors live, and command it to shut down. Sit there and soak for as long as you wish, of course, the water will begin to cool. Do not get out, take out the plug to drain the water. As the water begins to drain, say this little chant/spell/mantra:

"As water goes down the Drain, it takes away my Pain!"
Say this over and over until the water is completely drained.
You will feel your pain drain away as the water drains out.

I have been doing this for years, if you try it and it works for you, please get back to me?

Hi.

So sorry to hear about your situation.

Look up chia seeds for arthritis on Google.
There are too many links to post here.

They're reputed to have numerous benefits for a variety of problems, including arthritis, and apparently, they're the only food source that has ALL the essential nutrients the body needs.

They were a staple food source of the Aztecs.

Also, if potassium is what you need, I believe bananas are a very rich source.

I have practised martial arts for a while, and used Comfrey ointment as a remedy for joints, bruising, and muscular pain when I did stupid things wrongly: ))

It also helped with the pain of a fractured knuckle from when I punched a CRT monitor out of frustration, and healed the fracture.

I'd be wary of alcohol though, as it does dehydrate the body and can be acidic, but if you have no alternative, what else can you do?

Hope this helps.

All the very best.

I.A.

Unfortunately I need pain relief now. I can't stomach any more alcohol

Please tell your doctor that you are drinking because the pain is so bad. Ask him if he/she thinks you being in so much pain that you become dependent on alchohol is better than you taking one pill which will give you relief for 4-6 hours when it's bad! If he/she STILL won't write you an rx, see another doctor asap.

In my opinion, drinking is worse! See, if you take the supplements and other natural things, and meditation etc.....that stuff works over TIME. Tell your doctor that you would take the pills ONLY when it is unbearable .....until hopefully the other remedies start to work.

Perhaps a combination of an anti infammatory and a narcotic you could take 2x per day would help. I know my Mother's pain is worse in the morning, and at night......so maybe ask if you could try it like that. Also.....this won't help your physical pain, but have you joined any forums for people with this condition? It really helps to talk to people who are going through the same thing.....and they can share what works for them.
Here's one which looks good and friendly people who all have osteo
www.healingwell.com...

Please share the fact that you are drinking for pain relief thing with your doctor......maybe that will make he/she realize how bad it is......

Hello there.
I've red your story about your health condition and felt really bad for you. But, do not despair, the help is coming!

For the last 15 years I've been using this wonderful Russian invention called Vitafon. Running nose to back sprain, you name it, it helped me every time.

While all the advice you got here came from a concerned and good hearted folk, I don't think magnets or omega 3 is what you are looking for to alleviate your pain.
I don't really want to sound like a salesman, but there's no other way around it other than let you read all the info and testimonials (I could give you one myself!)

OK. First you should learn what is this device and where it came from:
www.steadyhealth.com...
www.vitafon.biz...

Here's a pdf book from the inventors themselves:
www.vitafon.nl...

and the links to lists of treatable illnesses and conditions (your illness is among the listed!):
www.vitafon.biz...
vitafonworld.com...
www.vitafon.biz...

Here you can buy it:
www.antiq.xpsweb.com...
and a better and newer version:
www.ebay.com...
and don't forget to ask for U.S. voltage adapter.
Buy this little thing and you won't regret it. I can attest to it - it does work!

Anyway, it's doesn't matter which version of the device you'll end up buying, it will work and help you either way. I myself am using an ancient, the very first version they produced and still get amazing results.

Osteoarthritis is not caused by bacteria or poisons in the blood, acids in the body, diet deficiencies or excesses, gland abnormalities, the weather, exercise or sudden shock — although some of these may influence the pain.

took the bacteria out of her hands which was causing the pain .

I know you are just trying to help, but It is not caused by bacteria....it is usually heredity,or from an injury. A person who has been overweight all their lives put more stress on joints too, which can cause it. Here's some good info on causes.

This runs in my family, my mum had to have her knuckles removed and replaced with artificial ones, she is on constant medication, cod liver oil capsules were something she used to take when the disease started before it was so bad she had to seek medical help.

Find another doctor, if the pain is getting too much, you should discuss having pain meds to have at least one pain free week a month, with three weeks off to ensure no addiction takes place.
You have to be disciplined though, an opiate addiction is not somewhere you want to go, trust me, it's more misery and pain heaped onto the pain of your arthritis.
But your doctor should consider your quality of life, one week a month pain free is not too much too ask surely.
