You trying both Landlines and Mobiles/Cells? It's possible there could be some damage to landlines and towers in the area. Also the lines and Mobile/Cell services could be getting overloaded with people calling in and out.

My thoughts are with you, keep trying, i hope you get in contact with your family soon.

Rome (CNN) -- A strong earthquake struck northern Italy early Sunday, leaving at least six people dead, authorities said.

i saw the 4.7 mag after shock and then saw that ya all had a 6.0 main shock...

not good ..

but the major news stations and sites are covering this as they should ...

anyway im prayers go out to the families of the dead .

Thanks for your answer. I have my mother in the phone right now (landline) ....Thank God !

She's saying they felt it very strong, but all the family is safe.

She just told me a little girl got buried alive when the house went down. She was able to use her mobil and they rescued her.

Do we think this is the end of it, or the beginning? As I understand it the depth of this quake was quite shallow which is dangerous, yes?

Right! you are asking here if the phone lines are working because you got to call your family. If it was my family I would have tried to call them from the first instant.

I asked if phone lines were working in that area at the same time was looking for the pre-pay card and my phone book where I have my sister phone number written.

Typ error - I'm sorry that was 5 deaths at the time not 50 - ugh! I hate that.

Thanks Silo. I know you are in the south of Italy, don't you find very unusual to have an earthquake in the north? I lived in Bologna, right in the dowtown for many years and I don't recall any. No volcanoes there.

Not really.....the guy you linked to on GLP claimed a large earthquake could happen between 10th April and 12th June, and then went on to say it could happen virtually any where!......not exactly a "prediction"....more a blanket statement!

That's was also correct we had a M 8.6 and M 8.2 Indonesia ..

Find latest posts and read all thread, at first post I say I will post pre-EQ's signals in 2-3 days advance, I was post 6 pre-EQ signal for M 7.0 + and 5 was accurate also ..

If you know how to read you will find if not I just don't care ..

Thanks, Just spoke to them, all is fine. They didn't feel it all the way to Turin.
Many aftershocks, will keep an eye on it.

A few bits of news, A number of stables have been collapsed and at least a herd of cows and breeding pigs have been covered by the rubble. We expect more livestock to be in trouble as everybody knows that stables are often in a bad condition.
300000 cheeses have been destroyed. The total of this damage will be around 50 million euros.
