So, I was reading this thread and while the OP makes some good points he misses the real culprits.

LAZY VOTERS are the problem. They pay more attention to American idol than to cspan. They pay more attention to oprah than to their senators and congress critters. They can give you all kinds of sports stats, but know nothing about our budget. Many are only interested in what they can get from the "gubmint" and not at all interested in what they can do for their fellow man. There is a disconnect between cause and effect among the voters. They don't understand how higher taxes leads to higher costs and job loss. They want to blame the productive for wanting to keep more of what they earn instead of getting off of the couch and doing something about their problems. The problems that they do have are never their fault, it is always someone else's fault. "Gimme ..." replaces give me the opportunity to do for myself. We have way to many voters who make their living by voting for the largess of the treasury to be distributed to them. Most of the public wants everything given to them without working for it. America was to be a land of equal opportunity. The liberal voters want legislated equalized outcomes. This was never guaranteed, or even suggested by the founding fathers. They wanted to assure the "pursuit" of happiness. Reaching it was up to you.
Political parties would not be a problem. Term limits would not be an issue. The problem is the electorate. They refuse to stay informed. They refuse to pay attention. They refuse to act for the good of the nation. Until that changes, any other changes would be a waste of time.

You can't blame the people for this, TPTB engineered this collective dumbing down, it is their very goal and they spend their money accordingly, what could be better than a sheep populace. Generation X and older ones have lived for the better part of their lives without the Internet. It certainly takes longer for them to rewire their brain around the fact that what they knew about the world was kind of a big lie. People that grew up with the Internet have been exchanging information about their surroundings with the rest of the world, which give them a radically different vision of the world that surrounds them. I'd rather think of countries as farms, we're owned and paid for. Even if you're the most radical conspiracy theorist, you're still affected by nasty programming on a daily basis, just with advertisements everywhere. If someone has been watching TV programs all his life for more than 40 years, how can you expect him or her to see the same things you do?

Non-voters are not only ignorant and lazy people, some people are so "enlightened" that they don't even see a point in voting anymore, they don't bother with keeping the sad illusion of a democratic system alive.

With all due respect, I'll have to disagree. Money is the problem first and foremost. It leads way to fraud. Ever notice how billion dollar corporations lobby? What are they lobbying for? Certainly not anything for the peoples benefit. Or how the same interests fund campaigns. Are they funding those campaigns for the people? If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck. It's a d@mn duck!I'm sure you have contrasting views if you think it an issue with the people. So in the end we're going to have to agree to disagree.

American politics folks two wolves fighting over a lamb pitting one side agianst the other to get in to power maintain it and will do anything and everything to stay there.

Benjamin Franklin once said that a democracy is two wolves fighting over a lamb for dinner. Well people we have been fought over for over 200 years.

The endless cycle of rinse and repeat of course there are a few folks going around claiming the "false left/right" paradigm and how nothing ever changes.

Well i am here to tell you they have changed quite a bit never before in this nations history has the government had so much power and the people so little.

We all see this
We all know this
We all put on our partisan blinders and i am guilty as much as the next partisan.

Know yourself and you know your enemy that's not so much to say that I view those with different views as my enemy.

Debate is an exercise in futility
Voting is an exercise in futility
Because all we do is rinse and repeat and start the cycle all over yet again.

Thinking somehow, someway things will ever get better and yet they never do.

I have argued for the longest time that Government is the greatest threat to the people of this country but I was wrong I was very wrong.

The biggest threat to this nation has always been us Our Governrment is a manifestation of everything wrong that is within us.

Face it.

We are the problem and for anything to truly change we must change from within.

The greatest journey to get where we all want to get to begins with that simple, inescapable step.

And we will never do that most fail to look at the mirror and ask themselves is there another way to get there.

Obviously there is but we are doomed to ever get there as long as we fail to grasp that.

Our problems will never be solved and they will be compounded until
this nations soul ceases to exist.

And we are almost there so close to the point where slogans are meaningless.

I think it's time we heed what Benjamin Franklin once said

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

We have been disarmed in more ways than one from the assault on the second amendment to a nation that has been dumbed down to sheer and utter stupidity.

Where the masses are easily controlled manipulated and nudged to only go in two directions.

Left or Right once upon a time someone said neither It is either going to be up or down.

Do we continue with the status quo or do we finally rise to the challenge and live up to the legacy that made this country what it use to be.

The last best hope for freedom and liberty it's time to arm up Americans and that doesn't mean with weapons per say it meant what has been said since recorded history.

The pen is mightier than the sword and knowledge is the great creator of equality.

Wrote this in another thread that didn't get to much traffic still applies in any political discussion

I am in my 40s. I learned long ago to not watch commercials, there are only a very few tv programs I watch. Even before the internet, I had little trust for the MSM. What little trust I did have died with Cronkite and I have come to find that even that trust was misplaced. Murrow may have been the last real journalist in America. They/we need to turn the damned tv off and go outside. Do stuff stop watching people do stuff. Stop expecting the government to do everything for you.

If the people pay attention and see company "A" lobbying their legislators against their interests. They can fire that legislator and keep doing it until someone with integrity gets in office. However, our electorate refuses to pay attention and accepts graft, corruption, and immorality as "normal" for politicians. Why vote for a slimeball you would not let in your home?

Maybe.... but maybe your just wasting your time... The country is screwed, full out chaos is imminent(its all ready happening).
How can "lazy voters" be the problem when the elections are rigged? No matter who really wins, they wont really win. They control every thing, EVERY THING... how could they not control one of their biggest investments? A new world order. Are they going to let a freedom fighter in office? NO because it would put all of their work in danger. You just posted somthing about agenda 21, if you know about that then how do you not know about elections?

The elections are a problem now. I agree, but only because the electorate allowed the situation to deteriorate so far. As for the chaos you posit, I welcome it. It may be our last opportunity for a reset. That reset will be as at least two separate nations though. Liberals/socialists and those of us desiring freedom are just to different to continue as one nation. We could do it as a confederation of sovereign states, but not as one monolithic centralized nation though.

You are the problem. Stop worrying about other people and worry about yourself.
