The Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue was responding to a possible haz mat situation at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday.
Authorities said four patients were being treated for respiratory complainst from an unknown substance.
Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush, flying back to Fort Lauderdale from New York, where he taped an episode of Live! with Kelly as a guest co-host with Kelly Ripa, was stuck atFort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after an aerosol can apparently discharged at a checkpoint at Terminal 2, Concourse D.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m., and Bush was stuck with numerous other passengers as the terminal was evacuated and upper-level roadway was closed.
Here was a sequence of Bush's tweets during the day:
Approximately 11:30 a.m.: "Just finished @LiveKelly with @KellyRipa! Amazing show had a blast! Thanks guys for everything a d hope the fans enjoyed it"
5:45 p.m.: "Currently stuck at Ft. Lauderdale airport standing outside underneath the airport with hundreds of people. They won't let us leave!"
5:51 p.m.: "Apparently there was some type of unknown substance released in the air inside the airport and multiple people passed out all at once!"
Five people were taken to Broward General Medical Center after being overcome by an unknown odor in Terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport around 5 p.m. Friday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
The patients were reportedly travelers and at least one TSA agent. Terminal 2 and the airport's entrance roadway reopened at 7 o'clock.
