people " in thier right minds " as you put it , do not " get scared " by the 2012 doomsday fantasies spewed over the internet

Yeah, it's sad but it is something I believe we will see more of in the coming months.
Everybody needs to remember that everything you write down gets read by lots of people and not everybody is mature enough to handle it.

I am not saying their is a need for censoring yourself but the crazy doom & gloom is going to be responible for many, many deaths in the coming months.

It' sad humans need to believe in all the apocalyptic stuff to get by day to day

I believe I can say with 99.999% confidence that nothing out of the ordinary will happen on the 21st of December except for man made issues like suicides and crazy things people are going to do because they believe the world is ending.

How are we supposed to be coming into an era of enlightenment when people are still so ignorant about how things work and when their so superstitious they follow these idiotic prophesies.

The people on here who claim to be the more enlightened and awakened people are day by day proving they're not.

If i was so cetain of apocalypse i would want to be there for the event (might sound sick but it sure beats 2012 in the cinema's)

Sad story though i don't think it had alot to do with doomsday threads... she read 20? If that amount pushes you over the edge already then she must've had some other matters going on aswell.

I tend to agree to the posters who already said this will be twisted (or is already) and used against alternative media, and to put consipracy theorists in a bad daylight again.

Too much that has been discussed in the past is now public knowledge and people are waking up en masse, i think they want to bottleneck (or completely stop) that.

They killed themselves so they were not captured by the police, who would do so for sure. There was certainty in the columbine case. The Columbine shooters true intention was to kill the people who had caused them so much pain, killing themselves just happened to be the end result.

Well, on the first point.... I strongly disagree with the idea that school shooters somehow enter the situation expecting it to end any other way BEFORE the first shot is ever fired. What you're suggesting here is that they get to the end of their rampage and suddenly realize,, 'Oh my..I've done it now...better shoot myself or the cops will!'. Sorry.. but to be kind? Bull Puckey. Specifically to the Columbine monsters. ...and I won't even give those two creatures the honor of calling them human. I'd have taken GREAT pleasure in being a cop that day with a chance to plant them BOTH personally. WHY would I say such a thing? Well... one, the idea anyone rationalizes any aspect of what they did sent my temper to the skies above. ...then I had to catch myself before really getting wild here and remember something. This happened 13 years ago, last month. That means even someone in their early 20's today was a pre-teen when those two devils went on their slaughter.

The Source link shows one by one, each of the 99 IED weapons those two monsters made and where each was found. They didn't mean to simply kill a few who had made their lives less than ideal....99 bombs and many being Propane tanks mickey moused to blow, tells me they INTENDED to kill every single warm blooded person at that school that day.

The fact those two couldn't even find the intelligence between them to make sense of Jolly Rogers 'good book' or the Anarchists Cookbook is ALL that saved hundreds of children that day. The thing I'm sad about isn't that they both died there. It's that a police sniper couldn't have done it BEFORE they slowly and deliberately walked through the library, executing the remaining kids who only wanted to live another day and see their friends and family again. When I think of EVIL on two legs, THOSE two are never far from my thoughts on the matter.

...I'm assuming you simply didn't know that their firearms were simply their personal weapons and nowhere close to the intended focus of the lethal force to be delivered on an entire school...Oh..AND the First responders coming through to save them. (If they'd gotten it right...) Sometimes we are very lucky indeed that criminals and evil seems to come with the intelligence of a turnip.

I said in it in the thread about the woman killing her kid over Farmville, and I'll echo the same thing here:

If this were 1999, she would have killed herself over Y2K.
If this were 1997, she would have taken up with Heaven's Gate.

An unsound mind only needs a trigger to do something like this. 2012 happened to be the one she chose.

Probably a very sweet and impressionable teenager who let the "facts" take her mind away from common sense. In those teen years, some girls have a very hard time with confidence issues, security issues, etc.

If only one person offs themself in a world of 7 billion, that's bad but it is to be expected.

I do feel sad for her but she just pretty much doomed the internet... NOW they'll use this for censorship and cracking down on forums like this one...

Its sucks for sure, no doubt. But lets be honest. Its survival of the fittest. With her mentality those of us that are responsible would be paying for her every bill for the rest of her life. Hate to say it, but with people like her gone, the world is ever so slightly a better place.

This has happened before. I remember a year or two ago hearing the exact same thing, a woman killed herself because she thought the world was going to end. Another search led to a mans suicide in 1994. Both were due to Camping's claims of the world ending. There were other stories of mass suicides in France, dated last year, due to doomsday prophecies.

I don't think you can really blame the websites though, there has to be underlying symptoms of depression in these people. The websites with these doomsday stories would be just as much to blame as those Sarah McLaughlin ads about the animals or those Child Fund commercials where they mention what you've eaten recently versus what all these other kids without food have had.

I tried to take my own life (not due to conspiracy theories, just went through hard times)but I couldn't do it as I didn't want to put my family through any pain and suffering. My heart goes out to her family x

Terrible, terrible contribution to this forum. And shame on whoever starred this drivel, as well as everybody else on this thread celebrating another misfortunate, not to mention dead, human being's misery.

I have no sympathy for this girl. She seemed to not use any critical thinking, you can't just believe everything you read about these things, you should take everything with a pinch of salt.

Everyone has their problems, some more so than others. I'm certain she didn't just kill herself because she thought the world was going to end. I was going to say its a typical media sensationalist angle and surprise surprise, its the Daily Mail. I rest my case on that.

No doubt people will jump on the bandwagon and blame people here and blame people there, but the fact is that there if no one to blame, it is her fault, no one elses. I may sound like a horrid person, or someone lacking in compasion, but in all seriousness, she did it, and it was no one elses fault.

Not only does everyone have their problems, but this poor girl was 16 years old, your attitude seems to be "well if they can't hack life, its their own fault." That isn't how life works.

Have you ever been depressed? Do you really think anyone would end their life unless it truly felt like death would be less pain than continuing living?

You sound like you've got a lot to learn buddy. I don't mean this in a malicious way, but your comments come off as bigoted and ignorant - you take this dumbed down tabloid angle on face value, ignoring the fact that she turned to Bhuddism and was clearly searching for either an escape, stability, meaning or hope.

The conspiracy comments were merely made in passing.

And moreover, can you imagine the daily agony someone in that situation must endure? Not everybody is strong enough to cope with these things, and the strongest amongst us would not in their shoes either. So please, save the pseudo-narcissistic nonsense.

Very sad for this girl but I can't help but think that it is one more perfect set up to further decrease our freedom of information and more.

This sounds like there were far more factor's that the media is not privy to regarding this girl, her personal motives, state of mind/illness, family issues or a number of co-related issues that we have no idea about. One thing is clear, if it wasn't doomsday material it would have been something else considering her vulnerable condition.

Either way this is perfect for TPTB because they will be able to use this example to further decrease free speech, personal freedoms and what little power we still possess in cyberspace and information gathering.

I always find it suspicious when the media portrays such an occurrence in such a specific way.

Would be one more perfect set up in their long bucket list for the one world totalitarian estate.

I have never seen so many people coming undone as I do nowadays. More and moreso it seems.

You're right about the media.

A lot of people on this thread spouting off about "critical thinking skills" could do with a just a little bit themselves, seeing as how they take this headline on face value.

As somebody who actually does inquest reporting, let me explain how it works.

You, the reporter, head down to the coroner's court. Usually at this stage all you know is that someone died and a rough summary (e.g. natural causes, hanging). This is what the inquest is for, to confirm the circumstances revolving around someone's death.

So the inquest begins, you listen keenly and make notes on the details - as told by witnesses (usually family and a police officer). In any case, especially a suicide case, you're looking for an strong angle to lead with.

If you don't have that angle, it isn't a 'newsworthy' story. Once you have it, that is your headline - everything else follows suit.

In this case, the reporters clearly decided their favourite angle was the conspiracy theory one. However, it could have been the bhuddist one, or any number of other details.

This does not mean the only reason the girl killed herself was because she was a "conspiracy nut" who lacked critical thinking skills - the original, flawed article even shows this.

So again, to the childish posters trying to pull the "tough talking but necessarily intellectual cynic" - get off your high horses let the poor girl rest in peace, instead of trying to look cool off her death.

Edit: And just to add, the Daily Mail is a low-brow tabloid - they are, by nature, extremely sensationalist. This means they play up the most dramatic angle possible, regardless of whether this is the most accurate way of presenting the story.
