A Doppelganger for those who are unfamiliar with this term is :-

Encyclopedia

Doppelganger

(German: "double goer"), in German folklore, a wraith or apparition of a living person, as distinguished from a ghost. The concept of the existence of a spirit double, an exact but usually invisible replica of every man, bird, or beast, is an ancient and widespread belief. To meet one's double is a sign that one's death is imminent. The doppelganger became a popular symbol of horror literature, and the theme took on considerable complexity. In The Double (1846), by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, for example, a poor clerk, Golyadkin, driven to madness by poverty and unrequited love, beholds his own wraith, who succeeds in everything at which Golyadkin has failed. Finally the wraith succeeds in disposing of his original. An earlier, well-known story of a doppelganger appears in the novel Die Elixiere des Teufels, 2 vol. (1815-16; "The Devil's Elixir"), by the German writer of fantastic tales E.T.A. Hoffmann

I ask this question because I have had on many occasions (too many to recall) been asked by a stranger whether we have met before, or the stranger will say - you look exactly like ....... The expression on the face of this person is always the same - complete bewilderment and confusion. Sometimes it's so bad that I will be accused of being a liar for not acknowledging a prior relationship.

I have always found this kind of funny and just dismissed it as a frivolous amusement.

Now I'm starting to think that there could be more to this than being a simple anomaly or glitch in the matrix.

Could we be meeting other people in the astral realm and projecting our memory in to this reality ?

Is it plausible that we might have a spirit twin - out there reaking havoc on our behalf ?

If you believe we all come from one source, could it be that we are simply meeting ourselves, over and over again in different guises?

Hmmmmm.

Any thoughts or personal experiences on this topic ?

Peace Out

My twin died from cancer when we were seven. There have been numerous times where I though the was alive because this one kid, who's name I havent yet learned keeps showing up.on one instance we were t the same bar wearing the same clothes!

It is indeed very freaky but I'm still alive so I'm guessing the death warning is a stretch

if we ever met, we would probably make out on the spot.

but yes, i find it interesting..though im curious as to how different their personality would be..i mean since they grew up in a different environment...very interesting.

hopefully if hes out there, hes a loser like me so i dont feel like the crappier version.
we could go get drunk together and complain about our lives

I don't know about a doppler, but I do think that on the big roulette wheel of DNA genetic combinations, that sometimes there can be an exact, or almost exact duplicate of each of us. I've had people tell me that they've met my exact twin in a country I've never been in.

I would love to meet my clone, so to speak. We could trade shoes and clothes, and cook wonderous meals for each other. Never worry about being rejected......

Thanks for posting. This probably deserves a new thread all together. Can a biological twin be a soul twin ?

I watched a doco once on identical and non-identical twins and saw two young female identical twins finishing off each others sentences - it was sort of freaky and really cool at the same time.

Peace Out

When I was in my 30's i went back to school. one day a couple approached me calling by another name. They both then said i look exactly..and they mean exactly like their good friend. They said we could be twins...I have always believed i had a twin taken away at birth (my mother had no money and her husband was off working on a ranch and she already had 4 kids, the hospital had to take her in because she was on their steps giving birth)....and yet I never asked them to meet her and I don't know why. I have always regretted it.
The thing is they said our hair was also identical and mine was to my knees bright red gold and pretty unusual especially at our age. The people saw me clearly and still when right up to thought I was her.

The tricky part to this is a "spirit" double, versus a "physical" double (a twin). Though I am familiar with the concept of a doppleganger, I have not researched the concept to know enough if the double - or each entity, the single and the double - would represent different aspects of an individual soul or spirit. Fundamentally, if there weren't sharing the same spirit, though looked exactly alike, then how could there be a doppleganger? That would just be an evil twin.

If you look at ancient Greek history, they had a belief that there were three primordial creatures formed as follows:

1. Male and Male, composed of four arms, four legs, two heads, two sets of same genitalia, etc.
2. Male and Female, composed of four arms, four legs, two heads, separate sets of genitalia, etc.
3. Female and Female, composed of four arms, four legs, two heads, two sets of same genitalia, etc

I forget the lore (I think the gods separated them, to keep them distracted from becoming like the gods, distracted by looking for their other half), but the concept would explain soul mates, homosexuality, etc. Perhaps, the doppleganger motif could work itself out of that concept or something similar.

Anyway, I remain open-minded to the concept, though I have never met my own (thank God, according to your introductory text). I have come across people saying (as I am sure you all have) that I remind them exactly of someone else, vice versa.

Interesting stuff to think about.

Doppelganger?

I wished my Doppelganger would show up at work. My boss would have a heart attack to know there was two of me running around.

That's an interesting theory!

I've had encounters with strangers where we've had an instant connection and they feel so familiar to me. My strangest experience was when I was waiting for a train in Germany and this woman approached in the opposite direction. We both looked at each other with big smiles and were both about to speak when at the same exact moment we realized me were in fact strangers. It was so odd, not only from my reaction but her same exact reaction to me!

I thought and thought about what it could have been and finally surmised that we must have known each other in a past life. While spending time in Germany I did have a lot of deja vu and felt very "at home" there. I guess it could be possible that instead of a past life memory I was living the memory beforehand? That's worth considering.

Thanks for your reply - will have a closer look at that mythology. Kind of reminds me of the various Indian Deities with their multiple arms and legs.

I guess this post also raises the question of whether you would like yourself if you did meet your replica. (providing you didn't die of course). I like myself as I am now but would I have the same emotions for an externalised me? Not so sure.

I just remembered too the closing scene from the movie Tron Legacy and this might be a subtle metaphysical message from the director/writers. Flynn willingly reintergrates/consumes his digital clone CLU and the result is annihilation of the GRID.

Peace Out

You won't believe where I found mine!

A pic of NASA astronauts, floating around in a shuttle or something!

I swear she's the double of me!

Weird, I wish I took note of what pic it was, I would have demonstrated. I always wanted to be an astronaut, woman stole my life! Lolz

Meeting my own doppelganger would be way too wierd for me. I think about people who have had NDE or OBE and you read about how they saw their bodies laying there and it occurs to them after a while that it's themselves. Ew! Too wierd!

Apparently in my town people say another person and I look alike and that we sound similar as well. Thing is I'm adopted so it kind of intrigues me as to whether or not that's my sibling or just someone who looks like me.

Thanks - cool story.

I had something similar happen when I was travelling through India, especially Kashmir. I was meeting all these people who seemed to be Indian equivalents of friends and family back home - in looks and behaviour. It happened so often that I just started to laugh about it. I too thought that I must have lived there at some point.

Peace Out

I read somewhere that witnessing a doppelganger of oneself is an indication that the said person is close to passing. There a few stories(true or not they are still entertaining) of well known people such as Abe Lincoln seeing his in a mirror shortly before his death.

As for an actual physical double, I have one. I go to the gym regularly and there used to be a black male that worked there that would always stare at me. First impression was... well
, pretty creepy. After a few visits he eventually approached me and called me Calvin or something and I was all... ummm no way bro. He then pulls up a youpoop video of my twin, which was someone he used to train as a fighter less than a year earlier, and shows me. We were exact. Same build, face, and everything. He asked if he could train me to fight but I declined. I used to show people the video and everyone would say that it was really me in the video and I was messing with them. Too bad I do not remember what to search for, it would be nice to show everyone. He was my bonified twin, we were even the same age. Maybe he really was my twin? All I remember is that he was up in Chicago, and I have never been North of North Carolina on the East Coast.

In regards to the OP and people coming up to you claiming that they knew you from somewhere else, well this happened way too often. I eventually started making up stories about being sent to jail, deported, or I was being chased after by the mafia just to for laughs. People have stopped coming up to me since. I suppose I would be the troublesome twin as I used to be a hooligan. Sorry twin.

I've met a guy my age that I would certainly consider a doppleganger. Check out this photo. I'm one of these fellows and I can tell you that we're not related in any way that I know of.
