A Chinese group known as "Sino-Michigan Properties LLC" has bought up 200 acres of land near the town of Milan, Michigan. Their plan is to construct a "China City" with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens. Essentially, it would be a little slice of communist China dropped right into the heartland of America. This "China City" would be located about 40 minutes from both Detroit and Toledo, and it would be marketed to Chinese business people that want to start businesses in the United States. Unfortunately, this is not just an isolated incident. In fact, Chinese companies have been buying up land and businesses all over the country in recent years. There has even been talk of establishing "special economic zones" inside the United States modeled after the Chinese city of Shenzhen.

Well what do you expect when you keep borrowing and borrowing? Eventually your creditors are going to start wanting tangible goods for their loaned money. This "China City" is the biggest of many other such endevors. And really, this trend is only beginning.

As a Maoist I should welcome a greater presence of "Communist China" in the US, but really, China is no longer Maoist and hasn't been for decades. Its governed by a form of state capitalism that is really closer to fascism than true communism.

China has more than a billion people. They could flood the US with enough immigrants to double the population and still have twice as many left over in the homeland.

How will this affect society? The economy? Will it cause tension in the US, or is it welcome as good economic and cultural stimulus?

How's your Mandrin?

This was the Soviet plan to take over the US from the '60's - erode national security from within and take over. Looks like the Chinese beat them to it.

They've been at that for years.. China is about to pop ... they are spending well beyond their means..

the ghost cities in China say it all .. they are riding on a false economy.. they have high employment by paying people to build cities that are empty .. nobody is moving in .. that wave will go a while and then come back to haunt them..

China is a bit naive yet..

I have been waiting for this, but 200 acres is really small. I have never seen you here before that I recall, would love for you to continue with your views on this matter.

They can make it.
They can build it.
They can't force me to buy it.

You figure Romney will be as open and loving of this as Obama? Oh he isn't that different...but he is no socialist, communist or 'Maoist'. Romney is bad, but he's BIG business and huge profit type bad, not 'Lets Obliterate the U.S. Political system!' bad.

Somehow I think BIG business and profit thinking won't mesh well with the grand vision of an equal world.......with a few just a bit more equal than everyone else, ruling from the Politburo/Central Party.

If he's open to it to letting this happen too, I am 100% and absolutely certain about saying there are 10's of millions of Americans who ARE old enough to recall Communism before Society decided to tell us it isn't what it is. 10's of millions were adults or close enough to remember with clarity what Tienanmen Square looked like as a current event, not a long lost piece of abstract history. Those who did it, still serve in power within the Chinese system. Nothing much has changed..and it could happen today as easily as it did then.

I'd say what I did on another thread which touched on this from a different angle. If China wants to come here and establish communities to support their own economic benefits and interests, fine. They already are, but this does sound like a much larger push. The U.S. does it on a smaller scale, all over the world. Who are we to do it, then condemn others??

If, on the other hand, China wants to come and establish some 'beachhead' for political revolution? Well... I have no need to wonder how China would treat such a thing being done within their own borders. They've faced it, dealt with it and destroyed it. Utterly...destroyed it. Tienanmen was only one example. Those 10's of millions of Americans who believe as I do, would see no less done with those who'd come HERE seeking to do that same thing. It would be nice if Uncle Sammy agreed and HELPED...but at some point, if this all comes to pass as more than economics, Uncle Sammy's lead or help won't be asked for or needed, IMO. Americans aren't ALL scared and hiding. Just most.

Can we put the myth of "communism" behind us once and for all? Unless the leaders are "communist" themselves, which has never happened nor will it ever happen. Communism is living on a commune and sharing everything. I mean, you can call yourself whatever you want, does not make it reality though. I can call myself "prince" does not make me a prince.

The only communism i am aware of was the manson family, but they didnt even consider themselves "communists" since manson always got the best "chicken".

Are these Chinese going to live as "communists"? Well every indication is no. So why is this a big deal?

Ohthankgod!

Because all those Dollar store items should now be $.50 each since we don't have to import it all now!

Woo hoo!

What, it'll be Made in America now and that's what we want, right?

We'll be producers again!

As long as the board votes on it and approves it then that is their desire.

No.. Sorry... We can't pretend Communism didn't exist and doesn't now. You DO realize...Communist isn't just an abstract title us mean Americans label people with, right? This is a self-described thing. I'm just using the terms they defined themselves. When those who follow the ideology would like to change the terms AND what they have come to define as Government since Lenin ordered Nicholas II out of office with a bullet, it's open to discussion I suppose.... Mao and his little red book also made no qualms about what it was called and what it meant.

Why the outrageous efforts to change the word used to describe something? We can call it Mickey Mousism if it makes people feel better. While it's a system based on the teachings of Marx and those of his ilk and bases it's lessons on the past of China and the Soviet Empire, it's the same thing. A thousand versions can come, and it's the same thing.....

Hey, here's a new idea though. If someone can make Communism or Socialism just vanish and become something that everyone likes....why can't we just change what Capitalism is called and present IT like a brand new idea too? Err.. Yeah... Doesn't work, does it?

So let me ask you, what made U.S.S.R a Communist country? I am aware they referred to themselves as Communists, but aside from calling themselves Communist in what ways were they really Communist?

In absolutly no way whatsoever. Other than the gov stealing the peoples food, water, housing and items. Then shipping them up north to be killed. Their communism was more a fascist regime than anything.

Their has not ever been a true communist party. With human tendancies, I dont think their ever will be.

I'm struggling to understand why somebody would post something like this comment in the first place.

I'm failing to achieve this understanding.

Electoral politics? Bwahahahah. Arranging deck chairs on the titanic.

I don't support Obama, from my perspective he is a fascist right-winger. Obama is not communist or socialist, he is the leader of the most right-wing nation on earth, the USA. You only make yourself look like an uninformed person if you think a real communist such as myself would support Obama in the slightest.

As a Communst, I stand 100% against Obama. It means NOTHING to me whether the right-wing Democrats or the right-wing Republicans win the 2012 rigged election. Nothing at all.

I'm glad to hear you stand 100% against Obama. He doesn't hate you and your position nearly as much.

I have no problem at all with Communists. I honestly don't. Despite all I say and my VERY VERY deeply held opinions on the matter, based on a full life of watching it with everyone else.

Communism..Socialism...? Well, Scandinavia seems to make some of the core concepts of those 2 related ideologies work. They even seem to work well, for them. I don't fault them one bit and I hope they have success with it for generations to come.

As I have in my profile and I espouse in my daily life, Hate is a precious commodity to be spent with the utmost care and thought. So, it's in that context I'd clarify my hate on this. Communism and your Maoism isn't something for me to hate in itself. Either of them and any related drivel IN MY NATION is what I hate. In the setting of the United States, that little hat and symbol on your avatar's beanie generates a deep physical burning hate that no debate here will ever change.

By the way, while we're on a thread seeming to hold Mao up as something others should want to follow, wow does this square with holding him up that way? Hero? Idol? Role Model? I'm not sure what I'd call this....but History records the only death toll higher than Mao and China's Cultural Revolution under his policies was World War II, and it takes the ENTIRE War considered together to top the numbers.

two hundred acres, that's not a lot of land. Must be a small city.
