It is easy to demonize Germany because of World War 2, but it an entirely different thing to allow yourself to empathize with its people. If you allow
yourself to see the humanity in the rise of National Socialism, we quickly find a group of rational people, with similar cultural values, who
willingly gave up their freedom. Desperation caused ignorance, and ignorance lead to innocent deaths. I believe that the Nazi's originally sought to
treat the Jewish people as state prisoners and labor groups, which then allowed Hitler to transfer Jewish business wealth into the national economy.
Also, with Hitler's aspirations of creating an empire, he symbolically wanted to force Jewish labor to build it for free. However as the war
continued on, and national budgets dwindled away, so too did the people's moral convictions in their treatment of people they viewed as sub-human
prisoners, and by the end of the war it was a traged on every level.
The Nazi scientists were just people like anybody else, who willing acted on behalf of their country when asked to do so with whatever skills they had
available. But it is American exceptionalism that has dictated our government since the Civil War, so if you want to identify the downfall of American
ideals, I would start there.
Also, after the fall of the Soviet Union, America was the only country in the world, who was in the position to dictate the winners and losers around
the world. Yet instead of trying to resolve the damages done to the global society by our empowerment of dictators simply because they weren't
Communist, our politicans instead decided to use globalization simply as a means to continue to exploit other sovereign nations. The Cold War provided
the foundation for the absolute loss of the American civic virtues, so now we sit in a world trying to blame everybody else, because we were
conditioned to believe that we were the "good guys" when in reality we weren't. However since I don't live in a world of black and white, and
since I'm accountable for the conduct of my country, I'm going to keep telling the truth because I know people will ultimately listen to reason.
