Why do you think we are alone in the universe?

Some of those not willing to open their minds to reality are religious in the first place, and they cannot allow that God and ETs could co-exist especially if the ETs had what we would call near-God-like attributes such as high levels of psi and marvelous technology that we can't understand or accept either.

Some of of the others are egotistical anthropocentrics that can't image a higher form of life than mankind.

Lastly, atheist with much of the same mindset as the latter mentioned, no God, no smart aliens.

No 2 snow flakes are ever the same and they are just simple water molecules. Think how many snow flakes must have fallen since time begun. Now what make you think that the exact conditions for intelligent life would exist and would then lead to intelligent life in more than one place in the universe. Planets are infinitely more complicated than snow flakes and there have been way more snow flakes that have ever existed than there are planets that sit in the habitable zone around a star.

Also there is no such thing as a statistical certainty based on number of planets. Thats not how probability works. Theres a 50/50 or 1 in 2 chance of getting heads when you flip a coin but there is no guarantee that if you flip the coin that it will ever land on heads.

The simple fact is that we have been looking for signs of life out there for many years and found nothing so far.

But you must consider that we have not looked that far.

Think of this example.....

Imagine 1 billion Pacific Oceans. Now say that you took a sock off and stuck your toes in the water that touched the beach. How absurd is it for you to say that since you didn't any fish by your toes, then fish don't exist in this ocean....

Our universe is a big place:

Put into perspective: think of how many cells there are in 1 human. Then think of how many cells there are in all the humans on this planet! That's about a good estimate of how many stars there are in the universe.

Considering what we are made of, which is some of the most common elements that the universe itself is made out of, I would be completely surprised if life didn't exist elsewhere in our universe.

Show me proof of any life other than that on Earth, and we can talk about the universe teeming with life. Some of us don't think we have to be alone, (unlike you who take the absurd position the universe must be teeming with life), we just see no evidence of any other life, therefore to jump to the conclusion it exists is rediculous.

Rather than jump to conclusions I will be open to all possibilities, and rely on actual data, which so far is stricly Earth based life.

we humans could be the end result of the very first life in all of existance.

or we could be the very last.

but most likely we are somewhere right in the middle of everything that ever was, or will be.

If you were on earth and someone was on Proxima Centauri 4.5 light years away are you not alone still? We use the term that the universe is endless so the chance for life would be endless, but that doesn't mean it has been anywhere near us, ever.

Yes we are very alone even with an endless number of life in the universe.

I don't think we are that special -- and when I say "special", that includes the idea that we are especially "primitive souls" or especially "a cancer of loveless ignorance". I think you put too much emphasis on humanity, when in actuality we are probably pretty damn "average" -- not "especially" anything.

For the sake of argument, let's stipulate for a moment that there are, say, 1000 civilizations in our galaxy. If that were the case, the odds would be that we humans are not special in any way -- not exceptionally good, nor exceptionally evil -- but rather middle of the road. To think otherwise would be to think way too much of ourselves.
