According to White, he knows of several other classmates that have also been approached by the campaign to counter the article. White declined to name the fellow classmates.

Wonder what the $$$$ bounty Romney put up for any friend who will come out and defend is up to?

I think it is more of a "shut up" fund...

One former classmate and old friend of Romney’s – who refused to be identified by name – said there are “a lot of guys” who went to Cranbrook who have “really negative memories” of Romney’s behavior in the dorms, behavior this classmate describes as “evil” and “like Lord of the Flies.”

Not all of them - just, apparently, Mitt Romney.

As for the far-right, yes, maybe not "hate" as much as assign a lesser humanity and maybe with the exception of "children", but that would depend on thier color.

That is the political agenda they have put forward. Conservatives?...I miss them. It was an idealogy I could respect and it had virtue. The far-right today?...your word "tripe" is suitable.

even though what you call a bully may just well be what they are. if you actually said this to a bully face to face.

they'd tell you that you should be happy it wasn't you.

i think that's what the world isn't understanding.

bullies are as real as non-bullies and they will always exist and they exist for very good reasons.

reasons beyond what an average non-bully could understand.

i suppose another option for a non-bully could be to attempt to destroy all of the bullies in the world.

then we will see who is the sadist.

The victim probably had a beatles haircut. The moptop became very popular between 1964 and 1966. This may not be a gay thing at all, as the conservatives of the day were quite perplexed by the trend. I had one, but I was only 9 years old.

In 1966, my next door neighbor lost his temper; and, hit me over the head with a golf club. I was a little chubby; and, had no problem wrestling him to the ground and sitting on him until he cooled down. The argument was over the fact that Lennon had proclaimed the Beatles more popular than Christ. I mean it was true, but that statement in itself did not make Lennon evil. This guy took it like Lennon proclaimed he was Christ.

It was in 1970 that my hair was shoulder length; and, what was amazing is that it really scared some people. I spent the night at a class mates house. Little did I know that his dad called his Klu Klux clan buddies; and, that they sat up half the night contemplating cutting my hair with sheep scissors ! It didn't happen, but there were many that shared that sentiment.

I feel it was more like forcing the guy to conform, but, what do I know? I wasn't there; but, I know what the kid was going through.

Prejudice and bigotry are not always about skin color or sexual preferences.

then, while the bully reveals to everyone what is in fact sadism.

all observers will also learn the true definition of masochism.

Mitt Romney was 18 years old when he engaged in this bullying incident, he was not a child, but an adult. I had enlisted in the military at 17 and turned 18 in the middle of boot camp, so to say "oh this is a harmless childhood prank" is a load of hogwash.

I love the way Romney is equivocating in his apology about this too, first he doesn't remember the incident. Then he apologized to anyone who was offended, but without saying he remembered anything specific. Then he said that he definitely didn’t know or think the kid they attacked was gay, even though he apparently didn’t remember the attack. Nice one, Mitt.

No wonder why Mitt's former friends have nothing nice to say about the guy;

One former classmate and old friend of Romney’s – who refused to be identified by name – said there are “a lot of guys” who went to Cranbrook who have “really negative memories” of Romney’s behavior in the dorms, behavior this classmate describes as “like Lord of the Flies.”

but he's like 60 right now.

only a person who deserved to be bullied as a child would still hold it against him.

what's in it for a bully to stop being a bully if he's still punished for being a bully and bullying 40 years after the event occurred.

when at the park a few weeks back i saw a 4 year old go into the sandbox and start tackling the other kids that were already playing there when he arrived.

some chump is going to grow up and hold this behavior against him.

if the little wildman realizes this he'd probably just figure that he should tackle his playmates on sight and not give it another thought.

I don't think you understand how this type of behavior scars a person. Cruelty, public humiliation and brute force impinge on the victim's vulnerability. How many teenage suicides have we been hearing about in recent news, due to bullying. This is some serious stuff.

I was bullied, and as a teen I contemplated suicide, because I didn't believe there was a place that I felt I fit in. I still have trust and relationship issues and often wake up in fits of anger over the people who bullied and hurt me.

Although it IS childish behavior, Mitt was 18 at the time. An 18 year old is not a child.

as I wrote earlier, I was a bully as a child. i remember quite clearly in first period PE, going down the attendance line taking lunch money from my classmates.

I won't go into the possible underlying reason for this behavior.

eventually, one of my victims fought me back. sure, he went back to class bleeding after lunch but he got in his shots and I bet he doesn't get bullied anymore...in my life that is just one example and I have many.

oddly enough, the reason i will participate in this thread is because last night, I had a dream of the very person I bullied.

i wouldn't have even apologized if I were Mitt. kids bully and get bullied. i remember reading once that a child bully of other children, is most likely being bullied by adults, parental or authority figures perhaps, and that is why they bully.

so...if you want to stand against the bully, also stand against the thing that bullied the bully and in a way created the bully.

i am a bully and a bully i will remain and a bully i will support.

if you don't want to get bullied, then never cross the path of a bully and do whatever is asked of you by the bully.

So, poor little rich boy Mitt must have been abused to have been so mean. It certainly wasn't his sense of entitlement and superiority.

Well, it seems to me that you've done SOME soul searching as you matured, looking into the cause of your disruption. I can't judge you now or then, nor would I want to. But I've seen many of your posts and you have never, IMHO, come across as a bully.

if you don't want to get bullied, then never cross the path of a bully and do whatever is asked of you by the bully.

That's a "blame the victim" response, not much different that "If you don't want to get raped, don't wear (fill in the blanks).

It's a naive way to handle a problem, just give into your abuser and it's not abuse, right? Pffft.

A bully will never stop being a bully until they take responsibility for it...and "I don't remember" and "I guess I am sorry for those "pranks"...all the while having his campaign scramble to contact his other HS classmates and put a lid on it via $ or vieled threats....none of that is indicitive of someone that realized what he was doing was wrong. It is indicitive of someone that is a man-bully not regretful of his actions, but looking to cover his ass and worried about his political prospects.

well maybe that's the problem with Mitt...he's a bully that also decided to become a politician.

these two realities clash.

the bully kicks ass and the politician kisses ass.

you will never see me become a bully based on my posts...i've already been banned from GLP for life and I enjoy having the ability to come here and correspond about various topics.
