According to the German Police University police officers used exactly 85 bullets in 2011 - 49 warning shots, 36 shots on suspects. 15 persons were injured, 6 were killed. Germany has a population of about 80 million. (This does only take into account shots in connection with crimes. There were an additional 9000 shots on dangerous, sick and injured animals).

In the same time there were about 818 first-degree murders.

I'm glad that we do have quite stringent laws about the right to bear arms. It's better this way. Okay, we don't have dangerous wildlife around to defend against, but nethertheless..

The Polizei are crazy and Germans can hardly own a firearm, so yeah shootings are low in Deutschland.

At the same time the Polizei carry repeater sticks, chemical spray, automatic weapons and are allowed to butt stroke and pistol whip. The Polizei have way more leniency than American police. I mean they keep those turks and russians under control somehow.

"I mean they keep those turks and russians under control somehow. "

Could you elaborate on that? I´m German, too. Didn´t know that...

OP:
Yeah, if you want to shoot guns (only on a range), you can. Join any "Schützenverein" with the range for it. You can shoot one year with their guns, then after a small written exam, you can buy up to 3 pistols and two long range rifles (semi-auto). You only have to come at least 12x times a year on a regular basis or 18x times ove the whole year. Thats it. I like it that way, muggs and thugs are kept away this way.

85 bullets!! The whole police force could share a single gun!.. Thats what I was thinking till I read the fine print. "There were an additional 9000 shots on dangerous, sick and injured animals)."

Still impressive, I think a single police officer in the US uses that many rounds in a month.. (dont qoute me on that, I just pulled that outa my @$$)

While I was stationed in Idar-Oberstein at Strassburg Kaserne, Rhineland-Palatinate was having an issue with Russian Immigrants. Where I was I think it was a disco-tech called Ypsilon or some such, Polizei were there every weekend. We always drove by the place and it was always something. The locals Germans I was acquainted with all said it was Russians, constant problem and issue.

As for the Turks, well it is common knowledge that Germany as well as several countries across Europe have had issues with Turkish Immigrants since like the 60s.

In 2010, Chancellor Angela Merkel said that multiculturalism in Germany had "failed utterly". The German leader said it had been an illusion to think that Germans and foreign workers could "live happily side by side". At a conference of the youth wing of the Christian Democratic Union party, the German leader said (in reference to guest workers) "At the start of the 60s we invited the guest-workers to Germany. We kidded ourselves for a while that they wouldn't stay, that one day they'd go home. That isn't what happened. And of course the tendency was to say: let's be 'multikulti' and live next to each other and enjoy being together, [but] this concept has failed, failed utterly."

I mean I thought this stuff was common knowledge, especially for a Deutschland-ers?

I know the problems and I didn´t disbelieve you.
I just wondered how someone who is guest to germany would percieve this.
Its not that big problem everywhere but in certain places.
Maybe I´ve chosen the wrong words for this.

I thought you were disbelieving me. All good in any case.

I loved Germany. Good beer, good people, decent food but nothing crazy like some other place, freakishly clean as compared to the USA, a working and passing socialist healthcare system, I'm mean other than the current economic crisis Germany has it going on.

Apparently you do though.

85 rounds fired at people and 9,000 fired at animals. That's the kind of stat that makes your eyebrows go up.

It also makes you wonder what they're doing right over there.

Kinda sounds like not much has changed in the 30 years since I was there when I was in the Army. Aside from all the STD films they made us watch, they made it a point to let us know that you do NOT want to piss of the Polezie. I never did, but I did see a small group of them take of business with a small group of Turks one night. When the police were done and were loading the others in the van, one of said something in German to one of the Turks. I asked a buddy what he said, he told me: "There's your 5 minute education, f****r."

I wasn't even involved and I was educated.

They may be rough around the edges, but they're effective and they don't seem to have the violence issues that a lot of American police seem to have. If you don't want to get pistol whipped don't give them a reason to do it. That was 30 years ago though. Things might be different now but, judging from those stats, it doesn't seem to be.

Thank you for your kind words

But I have to point out that the mentioned economic crisis is more an European thing, the rate of unemployment in Germany is down to 7.0% (2.963.000) with a working labor force of 41.200.000. True, some numbers aren't looking good for the future, we will have to face problems, too. But not today.

It's all the stray cats from Italy, specifically the Naples felines. They invaded German in 2011...

In all seriousness though, Germans don't play with animals. I've seen Polizei and PONDS guards put down dogs that I would have considered to just be mangy. They don't allow certain breeds in the country and when they find them, bang bang.

The launch of the EU pet travel plan has coincided with moves towards tighter restrictions on pets in many EU nations, including Germany. Laws have now been introduced which mean certain breeds of dog are not permitted to be brought into Germany. These include: bull terriers, pit-bull terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, American Staffordshire bull terriers or any crossbreeds of these dogs. All German cities have various restrictions on the use of leads when taking dogs in public places. But Berlin's city assembly has passed a tough new law for dog owners in the German capital, which imposes specific restrictions on leads and requires chips to be implanted behind the animal's ear.

Crazy Germans, letting swine's hog all the bullets and stuff.

Seriously though, something is working well for them. Perhaps with the autobahns people get a chance to just let off some steam?

multiculturalism failed in germany. what a shocking, unbelievable surprise.

aren't the germans the same people that made jews wear yellow stars and escorted them to gas chambers.
they threw in a few gypsies and slavics to for good measure.

they make american racists look sad and pathetic in comparison. they didn't even import african slaves.

they were so racist, that black people weren't even good enough to be their property.

so to say they aren't fond of foreigners is the understatement of the last 1000 years.

Your Ignorance is showing. Germans do not equal Nazi's. That was a stage and phase that was horrible yes, but that's like blaming you for something your grandparents did.

Flame away.

Normaly, the dog gets tested first and then it´s decided by experts if the dog has to put down (by medicine).
Its not like they shoot them on the spot just because its a illegal breed. Just wanted to say that so that nobody thinks its this way.

Sure, maybe they died in a work camp (from hard work or decease etc) but there is no evidence that the nazi's gassed jews in big rooms, stacked up together.

Also the 6 million number or something died/gassed is balony as well.

They also don't have as many idiots doing stupid stuff. There population is 80 million , we have that many idiots in our country at least, probably more.

Yea they used to be Nazi' but the German's still are a smart people and they some how have the sense not to commit as many crimes.

Agreed. And you are of course correct.

However. On one fastnacht I saw the Polizei put an aggressive dog down on the street. It was a big fluffy dog and it did bite two people to be fair.

Not that they don't do that here. Just where I am in TX we have "no-kill" shelters and other various They don't kill them unless it's rabies or a mercy kill.

Needless to say our shelters are really full, what a waste of public money huh?

Ok, how does less than 100 police -fired rounds equate to your system being better when there were 800 murders? How many lives could have been saved if people had the option to defend themselves? Do you keep statistics on minority or migrant worker deaths? Do you live in a truely multicultural society?
