Kofi Annan warns of 'full civil war' in Syria

The former UN chief says the world cannot allow Syria to descend into full-scale civil war and that the day may come to take a "different tack" than his peace plan.

Speaking in Geneva, Kofi Annan said that there was a "profound concern that the country could otherwise descend into full civil war, and the implications of that are quite frightening.

"We cannot allow that to happen," the UN-Arab League mediator said.

He added that the level of violence in Syria remained unacceptable.

"There have been worrying episodes of violence by the government, but we have also seen attacks against government forces, troops and installations, and there has been a spate of bombings which are really worrying, and I am sure creates incredible insecurity among the civilian population."

When asked what would happen if his peace plan didn't work, Mr Annan said he was waiting for suggestions.

A UN-backed ceasefire was announced for April 12 as part of Mr Annan's six-point peace plan, along with the deployment of an unarmed UN observer force of up to 300 monitors. While there was an initial reduction in violence and UN observers have been gradually deploying, a full ceasefire has yet to take hold.

People dont realise that this conflict with Syria
make it official that the US is scratching for WW3
by arming and paying any terrorist that will go against Assad
that tactic is a clean way to start a war
low cost and no need to bring the big hardware machines and the troops yet

Yes i agree he seems a good man that his under big pression
off course the west has a lot of good points for humanity reasons
that this civil war need to stop

But again Kofi just CANT start speculating on conspiracy at some UN meeting
Hilary will not be pleased at all
he know what this empire can do ..he doesnt want more people to get hurt
he doesnt have the power the stop the conflict
the rebel continu to attack Assad and Assad continu to fight the rebel that wants him out

There is no other ending now then Assad being removed from power
or Assad going against the terrorist rebels
like the US would certainly do if a civil war was happening in the US
