Russia's Sukhoi SuperJet-100 goes off radars in Jakarta, hijacking not ruled out

rt.com

Russia’s latest civil airliner carrying 44 passengers has disappeared from the radars during a demonstrative flight in the Indonesian capital. Hijacking and a high-altitude crash into a mountain have not been ruled out.
The aircraft did not return to the airport at the scheduled time following takeoff. By that time, the fuel should have been totally spent.
Shortly before going off the radar, the crew of the aircraft had asked for permission to descend, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency quotes an Indonesian aviation official as saying.
It got permission to descend from an altitude of 10,0

hijacking not ruled out? could be interesting, especially given the passengers being all big heads of aviation companies.

anyone know of an actual manifest of who was on this flight? and if so why it would want to be hijacked? at this point in time its probably most likely a crash.

still interesting to keep an eye on.

Good to see it's being covered!

Of course I couldn't find it because my search engine is still BROKEN!

Here's some info for you and pics...

Russia’s Sukhoi SuperJet-100 goes off radars in Jakarta, hijacking not ruled out

Russia’s latest civil airliner carrying 50 passengers has disappeared from the radars during a demonstrative flight in the Indonesian capital. Hijacking and a high-altitude crash into a mountain have not been ruled out.

The aircraft did not return to the airport at the scheduled time following takeoff. By that time, the fuel should have been totally spent.

Russian reports 50 people. Other article 44.

The latest reports suggest the mobile phones of at least two passengers are working, though nobody has picked up.

“A call waiting tone can be heard, but nobody is answering,” the director of Angkasa Aviation magazine says, as cited by Detik.com.

Which can be interpreted in many ways.

The plane flew round the mountain and then sharply changed course and started descending near the point marked with black arrows.

“The authorities are searching for the plane. A helicopter has just returned but says there is no trace of it. Rescuers are looking at the maps trying to determine where it could be,” Sergey Dolya who was on a previous flight on the very same aircraft, told RT.

Now THAT'S interesting!

In the morning five helicopters are expected to join the rescue operation.

Let's hope they find something. Survivors of course and if not than at least what will aid the families in finding

peace.

It says in that first report that the plane vanished from radar at high altitude, it may be that the transponder was switched off, all depending on what they meant by high altitude. The working mobiles could also point to a hi-jack, when the Arctic Sea MV was hi-jacked in the Baltic sea, the hi-jackers confiscated all the mobiles, but they missed one.

I was unaware the Russians
were building New passenger aircraft...

I thought they just bought boeing

I know their older passenger aircraft don't have
the best safety records ...

interesting ...

Saw this on the news this morning.. They were reporting a possible highjacking even though the fuel would have been exhausted by that point as it said in the report. It was a display flight so it wouldn't be carrying enough for a long flight I assume. "possible highjacking" seems a bit of a jump!

Sensational reportage of the possibility of terrorism as usual!

A major air search has begun but darkness has prevented any hope of spotting the jet - if it has crashed - in mountainous country near Jakarta Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk... zz1uNvo2Uhk

I guess it could take longer to identify a crash site over a mountain range..

It is always worth repeating that we should look for human/terrestrial explanations before turning to paranormal ones. With that said, let's also try to remain optimistic that the craft and crew will be safely found.

if you want conspiracy , i would go with :

plot to destroy the saftey reputation and sales of sukhoi airframes by sabotaging such a hi profile demonstration flight

but being prosaic , i favour :

sukhoi demonstrator pilot with limited knowledge of indonesian weather and terrain factors made an error and descended into a mountain flank

My computer is being a butt. I think this old laptop is on its last leg. So if this reply is thrown off, thats why.

To the OP. This case is very mysterious. I can't imagine a demonstration flight being hijacked as the general public, where terrorist like to hide, probably weren't allowed on this flight. Its possible they crashed but over land, a crash site is easy to identify. It just doesn't make sense.
The working mobile phones are a mystery too. If they crashed from a high altitude, I would imagine the phones would have been trashed and would no longer work. I guess it's possible a couple of the phones could have survived, but where is this crash site, if that's the case?

This reminds me of some of the Bermuda Triangle cases.

Star and flag for you. Nice find and important topic. This has got to have some answers so keep us updated.

To Silo 13. I saw your thread on this first. You provided a lot a really good information and just had a better put together thread. Its a shame when you go through all that work only to see its been posted before.
I gave you a star too. Good presentation.

hope the crew and passengers are safe.
This is just my personal speculation as this is a conspiracy site, but lots of U.F.Os have apparently been filmed from planes or around planes recently.

Maybe someone or something they to get the industries captains attension

Found It!

MOUNT SALAK, Indonesia (Reuters) - A rescue team found no survivors but several bodies on Thursday when it arrived at the wreckage of a Russian plane that crashed into an Indonesian mountain during an exhibition flight with 45 people on board.

It was carrying Indonesians, including journalists and businessmen, eight Russians, including embassy officials, pilots and technicians, two Italians, one French citizen and one American, said Vladimir Prisyazhnyuk, the head of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft.

congrats - i looked for updates last night - and this morning

stuck in the side of a mountain was an inevitability - though its a bit grim that there are no reported survivors

i dunno which idiot came up with " potential hijacking " - as the obvios retort would be a hijacked plane cannot fly any further than a non hijacked plane

Just 21 minutes into the flight the pilots contacted air traffic control and asked if they could descend from 10,000ft to 6,000ft (3,000m to 1,800m) before dropping off the radar near the the Bogor area.

Rescuers searching for a missing Russian-made passenger jet carrying 47 people have found the wreckage of the plane. The plane went missing in Indonesia during a demonstration flight for potential buyers.

This Superjet 100 (introduced last year) was the first Airliner created in Russia since the end of the Sowjetunion.

It's not just the older machines that fall apart. Russia has a well known history of bad maintenance, they don't take care of the planes and they fix them as cheap and fast as possible.
Add to this Pilots who are drunk, do stupid mistakes or basically have no clue about the planes they are flying (watch those Air Crash Investigation episodes about russian disasters) and it's no wonder that in the past 60 years nearly 10.000 people died during Aeroflot flights alone.
It's crazy that the russians are even still allowed to operate in the civilian air travel business

I've heard they are not very pleasant at times,,,when it comes too Jets.

It's not ALWAYS,,maintenance and pilot error!

Did u even read the passenger list?,,u think that THIS jet was not inspected before it took off?
or that the pilot was drunk? on THIS jet???

really?

The aircraft underwent an extensive preflight before takeoff and no problems were found. This was confirmed by the Flight Data Recorder. After extensive examination, no mechanical problems occured with the aircraft before impact with the mountain.
