I've only ever seen ball lightning once when I was 10. I was asleep with the curtains open around 10pm. I woke up to a very bright light rushing towards me from out of the sky. It was bright white, no sound, menacing and definitely not blue as in the first, highly contested vid. It missed my window and smashed into another building down the road breaking windows. It scared the # out of me and I never sleep with the curtains open any more! I've never seen one again and I'm glad.

When my mother was a child during the depression, her family were squatters in an abandoned hospital. many weird things happened to them there but one was during a lightening storm one day they watched the storm from a third story window. A large ball of light came floating from the sky and landed on the power line below. it then skipped along the line bouncing like a ball off into the distance and out of sight.

I have often wondered if these are short lived life forms created in the electrical field of the storms. They sometimes behave as though curious, they sometimes follow objects or people. they have injured by burning people but when they touch someone it looks more like out of curiosity as though there is motive of a childlike being.

When it crashed into the other building did it set it on fire? What kind of damage was done do you remember?

No, it didn't set fire but blew the windows and some tiles from the roof. The place was flooded that night and closed for a while. It was school classrooms and luckily they were empty. It's a long time ago but I remember the terror I felt.

My first instinct was that it was reflected from inside the house.. an LED flashlight or something, but it looks like you could see the reflection on the roof of the house so I tend to not think that..

Ball lightning is as good an explanation as any.. I do think it was entirely a natural phenomena.. A friend of mine experienced ball lightning that actually came down and hit the metal screen door .. made a very loud buzzing noise and then a lout pop before it just vanished..the way he described it, it was a tiny thing..

Here's another example of ball lightning..

That looks more like some shot a flare gun off.

i remember my nan telling me a story about "ball" lightening from her younger years ( shes 90!)

she told me that it came thru the open front door to her house and left scorch marks over everything it touched and then left via the backdoor and shrank into nothingness
she said it was ball lightning but who knows

First video is fake...those are light reflected from the window. you can tell the lights are being projected behind camera through window, because it lights of the shed facing them. if the lights were at that angle in the sky the shed would be lit up like that.

2nd video is trying to compare the 1st video's legitimacy.

how about this people. stop trying to trick the world with your childish pranks and make something that would really make a difference in this world...

"make" something? A bit hypocritical don't you think?

The great thing about "natural phenomena" in UFO research is that much of it has been studied, analyzed, and there may even be models that can determine if the conditions exist to make it possible.

First, I would verify that the video is not a a Hoax, a little background investigation, placing the person who took the video at the scene and the time when it was taken. Possibility a little digital forensics to ensure that it isn't computer video hoax. Then if it passes those tests then move on to investigating the atmospheric conditions at that time and place to determine if ball lighting was possible.

Ball lightning is still an unexplained phenomenon, though there are certain conditions under which it manifests and it has certain characteristics:

Ball Lighting

Also you can compare this video posted in this Thread to other videos of supposed Ball Lightning:

Ball Lighting Videos

Also, ball lighting may be confused with other phenomena. What makes me think this video, if accurate, shows natural phenomena is that it only lasts for a couple of seconds, dark clouds were seen the vicinity, and it doesn't show a trajectory, they seem to flash on an off.

Another area of investigation is to determine the temperature of the phenomena, by analyzing the light from the video, if the video setting are correct.

Once again, nobody knows how ball lightening is produced. Yes, people have produced a microsecond of what they claim is ball lightening, but what they produce does not move like what debunkers say is BL.

Once again, if nobody knows what ball lightening is, how do they know it's natural?

It is still controversial, I suppose the reason many scientists still consider it a natural phenomena is because it has characteristics similar to other atmospheric phenomena. For example, corona discharge (Elmo's Fire), or ignis fatuus (Will O' The Wisp).

Ball Lightning could be used, unjustifiably, to explain potential ET-UFO phenomena, the difference is that Ball Lighting is not solid and seems to require specific atmospheric conditions to manifest.

These are some of the characteristics that could be used to rule our Ball lightning in a good potential ET-UFO case, showing that the atmospheric conditions cannot produce ball lighting is straightforward, proving that an object is solid requires more work and equipment.

Plasma critters, definitely.

Yeah. Ball lightning. Ordinarily, since electrons all carry the same charge, they have a tendency to repel each other and disperse. So what you need is something on the inside of the ball with a positive charge that's strong enough to hold together a kind of "event horizon" or electrons, with attraction and repulsion balancing out, without the thing instantly collapsing into hydrogen. Or maybe something collapsing "inward" into an unusual dimension and creating a kind of mini black hole.

There are things we know about how additional dimensions interact with our 3 or 4 familiar dimensions and create structures and effects (magnetism), but there's way much more that we don't know.

Oh, and for this video, just looking at the still, I vote CGI.

I would feel more comfortable calling this ball lighting, or anything other than a fake of some kind, if the YouTube user didn't have a clip on his page about making fake UFO videos. People don't seem to be taking that fact into account here. Doesn't that cast doubt on the legitimacy of the vid for you? It does for me.

You know it is absolutely hilarious that if I ever photograph a UFO it will be branded a CGI fake. WHY?

I have posted tutorials on how to do 3D work and Photoshop work. I have to say this is iffy because of his other posts and could be a very clever CGI or light effect. Love to know how it was done if it was, if not good luck proving those were real given the Videos they have done.

Going outside almost had me too, so I am really on the fence. Did they capture something and just love to play with photoshop and aftereffects I know I do but I am also someone with a good camera and always have it ready so who knows...

just looks like someone is behind him shining a flashlight in the window. The first part where he is in front of the window there are other light that are reflected and it looks very similar in distance. Then he shoots the ground when he is supposedly going outside, however I think he just went to another window for a split second you can see a frame of a structure on the left of the screen. Why do people wast there time trying to trick people, how does that give you your jollies?
