since it matters: Bill Hicks' open letter on "freedom of speech"

I just stumbled upon this nice blog that collects "open letters". One of them is by Bill Hicks. I like the guy, probably others don't. Regardless of what you think of him as a stand-up comedian, I would recommend to read his open letter. Freedom of Speech becomes a memory if we don't act.

In May of 1993, deeply offended by its "blasphemous" content, a priest wrote to Channel 4 and complained about the recent screening of "Revelations," a recording of Bill Hicks's live show at London's Dominion Theatre some months before.

Upon receiving said complaint, Channel 4 passed it on to Hicks himself. Hicks then responded to the priest directly with the following letter. It doesn't disappoint.

this is slightly off-topic, but let me trow in an anecdote
one of the things I do to make a living is giving lectures
certain topics seem to be of interests to marketeers.
I love to show them that video in which he tells them to go and kill themselves
unneeded to say that little of them feel the urge to come and make small talk at the drink later on.

i love the smell of sarcasm, even in an auditorium filled with suits :-)

I miss this man so much, I am still sad to his loss. His early death was a great loss to humanity. There are very few people in the world, especially comics, that can open people's eyes. At least we still have Joe Rogan.

Where he tells anyone in advertising that they're the devil and evil and #.
How true it is too. I despise advertising!
